    62. Fully Charged

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, Kay and Elle discuss Fully Charged by Nicole Parker and Unfortunate ReadsWITS Smut Scale:Kay is desperate for some good news in the smut verse, and today comes with a bad review that seems to give us some good reading potential. As promised, the link to Strange Familiars can be found here. Kay has already downloaded it, and added it to her TBR. We discuss if Elle is still in the stone age using battery operated toys, and Kay is finding herself in this story without her consent. Kay makes a list of all of the words that the authors can use to represent the main characters "cave of wonders," which honestly gives Holly Wilde a run for her money. Kay brings us on a tangent and a biology lesson, and Elle has a soapbox moment about the scientific study of women's bodies. While we appreciate the MMC being fully there to make sure that the FMC is satisfied, we were both left wanting when it came to the insta-love part of the story line. It really goes off the rails with the epilogue, and if anyone gave Kay's kids a drum set they would be less than politely asked to leave.Overall, this was Kay's 2nd read, and she gave this ⭐⭐.5, though she's definitely less surprised a year and 1/2 and over 60 sentient object romances later, while Elle gave this ⭐⭐ for her first read.Links for this weeks episode:Fully Charged by Nicole Parker and Unfortunate ReadsNext week: My Date with Bubble Tea by Silvia MorrowWE HAVE MERCH!!!Follow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspod and TikTok @what.in.the.smutVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

    61. Knotted by the Beast

Welcome back WITS listeners!Join Elle and Kay this week as we discuss Knotted by the Beast by Siena StoneWITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙Elle thinks that the bookish community needs to take a deep breath and maybe take a break to go outside for a timeout based on the smutverse news. We discuss how the Beast's first mistake in this book was letting Belle's father leave, when he really has no way of enforcing his punishment for stealing the flower since he's trapped in the castle because of the curse. Both ladies agree that there was some omegaverse standards that were overlooked or missed entirely. As usual, we can never be satisfied. Either theres too much plot and not enough smut, or too much of the same smut and not enough plot. Kay is happy that the beast stays in his beast form at the end of this, while Elle firmly believes that he should be able to be the one to make that decision. Overall, both Elle and Kay gave this ⭐, with the Kay's biggest complaints having to do with some major plot holes, and Elle really not liking the Beast's lack of growth at the end. WE HAVE MERCH!!! 60. Romancing the Rat

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as we discuss Romancing the Rat by G.M. Fairy. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙We're back after a much needed week long break! Smutverse news has us upset that people can't just scroll on (whether on the internet or in real life) and leave authors alone with their bad opinions. In this week's book, we get into a bit of a back and forth about our smut scale, but decide that the fact that theres a whole extra unknown person (animal? creature?) that one of the participants doesn't know about at first, its a level 4. Kay has a hot take this week where she actually likes a blonde MMC, but the bodybuilder part is an interesting choice. Justice for rats, both for their intelligence and their ability to create their own rat neighborhoods in NYC. Lastly, we're a little disappointed about the lack of use of the tail at the end of the book. Overall, both Elle and Kay gave this one ⭐⭐⭐ for the creative twist on what we anticipated the story being, and some good writing. Oh yeah... Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as we discuss Pounded In The Butt By My Handsome Sentient Library Card Who Seems Otherworldly But In Reality Is Just A Natural Part Of The Priceless Resources Our Library System Provides by Chuck Tingle. (Yes, thats the full title)WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙We start off this week with a reminder that we must hold on to both our rage and our whimsy in the wake of the current hellscape that is the news pretty much whenever we open our feeds. We discuss how this book starts with some serious plot for an 11 page book about sex with a library card, with our main character embarrassed about his humble living arrangement in the city. Elle was briefly reminded of a "choose your own adventure" type of books as the main character Mark begins his quest. We get some more Elle lore and find out which document is most important for her when she moves to a new city. Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐, wanting a little more aftercare before the abrupt end to the story, while Elle gave this ⭐⭐.5.WE HAVE MERCH!!!Links for this week:Pounded In The Butt By My Handsome Sentient Library Card Who Seems Otherworldly But In Reality Is Just A Natural Part Of The Priceless Resources Our Library System Provides by Chuck TingleNext week: Romanced by the Rat by G.M. 58. Earthed

Welcome back WITS listeners!Join Elle and Kay this week as we celebrate Earth Day this week with Earthed by Holly Wilde.WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙This week, the ladies swoon over everything Artemis II, which is the perfect lead in to an out of this world book. Kay learned a little about dark matter (maybe), and Holly Wilde has us questioning if the Earth is, in fact, phallic in shape. Take that flat-Earthers. Everyone in the Wilde worlds truly takes the outrageous as seriously as possible, and we tip our hats to Holly for that. Thinking about the logistics of Celeste's heroic action of saving the people of Earth makes us have to stop before we spiral. Also... weigh in listeners.... what exactly is Saturn's ring? Overall, Kay rated this one ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 and Elle went with ⭐⭐⭐. Welcome back WITS listeners!Join Elle and Kay this week as they discuss My Date with Caps Lock by one of the Queen's of Sentient Object Romance, Thea Masen. Stick around to the end of the episode for an interview with the author herself!WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙In a dark world these days, this book was an incredibly fun, light read! It also read like an ode to writers everywhere, with each chapter leading off with one of the rules of writing... Thea Masen said "Oh really? Watch me." Despite the fact that there are 26 love interests, they all have distinct personalities.Overall, both Kay and Elle think that this book could be a master class in creative writing, and for the first time in a very long time, it was a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from both.Links for this week:My Date with Caps Lock by Thea MasenNext week's book: Earthed by Holly WildeFollow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspod and TikTok @what.in.the.smutVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

    56. Taken by the Haunted HDMI Cable

Welcome back WITS listeners!!Join Elle and Kay this week as they discuss Taken by the Haunted HDMI Cable by Sinn Lee. This was mentioned by the one and only Stephen Colbert when discussing the use of AI- we're also sometimes surprised that human minds come up with things like this week's book. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙/🐙🐙🐙🐙 (the HDMI cable never turns into a person, but theres some dub con elements)This week, Elle primarily takes issue with the way a 20 year old purchased an old house seemingly sight-unseen. Kay is most upset with the fact that she moved with only 12 boxes, and that Elle moved cross country with even less. The description of the cable being rough immediately has everyone no longer on board with what is about to happen. Overall, Kay gave this ⭐ and Elle went with .5⭐. 55. Mating with Mallows

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, Elle and Kay bring you an Easter themed book, Mating with Mallows by Nora Noodle.WITS Smut Scale:Join the ladies as they discuss how this book had far too much childhood trauma for 20-something pages (and we think that however unintentionally, the trauma makes for a bit of an icky-sticky back story). We knew that the incorporation of sugar was already going to be a hard no for Elle, but we discover that she also is opposed to sweet-smelling candles? Unsurprisingly Kay is on the other side of this argument. Also unsurprising, a book about food led us down a tangent about cooking over a campfire- mainly superior s'more recipes. Some more real-time fact checking research about "natural flavors" horrifies Elle, and Kay is pleased that she was at least half right. Overall, despite the overwhelming popularity on social media, Kay gave this 1.5 ⭐ while Elle gave it .5 ⭐ mostly for the "Sugar Plum Dicks" line. 54. With Tongue

Welcome back WITS listeners!Elle and Kay had some spicy (personally we think hilarious) commentary this week on With Tongue by Adrian Blue. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙Elle may be getting over bronchitis, but that didn't stop us from having an incredibly candid conversation about this book. Both Elle and Kay think that there was a missed opportunity by keeping with the biology of an actual frog (fact checked in real time). Kay is a bit triggered at the beginning of the book, and shares her fear of being dive-bombed by a bird of prey when she wears her winter hat with the big pompom. Elle has a brief understanding of the other side of the aisle... "everyone's liberal until a 7 ft frog..." We talk about the power of gratitude, and Elle gives her rendition of Smelly Cat. This sweet (and obviously unhinged) story earned ⭐⭐⭐ from both Kay and Elle, and recording this episode brought us so much joy this week.Links for this week: With Tongue by Adrian BlueNext weeks book: Mating with Mallows by Nora NoodleFollow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspod and TikTok @what.in.the.smutVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

    53. Over a Barrel and Down a Peg

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week was a doozy! In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day this week, Elle and Kay discuss Over a Barrel and Down a Peg by Vera Valentine. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙Kay and Elle start off this week by reminiscing that Kay read this book last year and was certainly not far enough along in her own journey to be able to have the conversation that we can easily have today, one year later. We discuss how one of the biggest triggers in this book is just the main character himself... quite literally a caricature of the worst male you've ever met. We discover that this was a really intense introduction to a new kink that Kay did not know about when she first read this (last year). Despite it coming up in a few books since, Kay is just as put off by the thought of it, but mostly because in the case of the story, its being used as punishment. Lastly, the addition of the hash brown casserole in the reviews truly doesn't prepare you for the reality of the hash brown casserole and its... salty... addition. Overall, Kay gives this one ⭐, but Elle looked at this through the lens of rage disguised as erotica, and with that perspective rated this ⭐⭐⭐. 52. Fill My Divot

Welcome back WITS listeners!!Join Elle and Kay this week as we discuss Fill My Divot by Lavender Bleu. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙This week, Elle and Kay were pleased to get a sentient object that does, in fact, turn into a real man (unlike last week's can). Kay wishes that she lived in a place where golf wasn't seasonal, because it sounds like being a cart girl is a lucrative business. Elle is shocked to hear that Kay doesn't ever remove her makeup before bed and she's horrified. We had another question of logistics, mostly because Elle can't get around the specifics of a golf cart bench. Kay found the banter a little lacking, but it still works for the most part. The addition of a vibrating golf tee created some interesting questions, though we always appreciate a man built for her pleasure. Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and Elle rated this one ⭐⭐⭐.5. The fan cast is back this week, and ended up with some interesting information on some famous alter egos. 51. My Energy Drink Sparks my Kitty

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay while they discuss My Energy Drink Sparks My Kitty by Kaysie Reads. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙In this episode, we are firmly back on our sentient object BS. Kay poses the question of energy drink or coke- you have to choose one. We appreciate that the can did actually become people-sized rather than staying the size of a can, but we still are struggling with his "canhood." The FMC seems to be love-bombed by an energy drink, and somehow they both end up as sentient energy... we're confused too. For the first time, Kay didn't fan cast this one... reading it was quite enough. Overall, it was a ⭐ from both Kay and Elle, but this did not put us off from sentient romance, don't worry. Stick around for an interview with Alex where we get all the good details at the end of the episode!WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙Elle has finally watched Heated Rivalry and now fully understands the hype. We discuss how the main theme of an eating disorder in a romance novel was done so well, and how the other main character, Blake, does not set out to "fix" Imani. The smut was smutting in the spicy scenes, which made us wonder what exactly the security at the airport is thinking when they see suitcases filled with toys.Overall, both Kay and Elle rated this ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and were delighted to discuss how much they loved the book with the author, Alex LaBruyere! If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, support is available to youNational Alliance for Eating Disorders 1-866-662-1235https://www.eatingdisorderhope.com/treatment-for-eating-disorders/eating-disorder-hotlines988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline https://988lifeline.org/Links for this week's episode: A Gold Medal in Love by Alex LaBruyèreNext week's book: My Energy Drink Sparks my Kitty by Kaysie ReadsFollow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspod and TikTok @what.in.the.smutVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

    48. Valentines Slay

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, Kay and Elle discuss Valentines Slay by Navessa Allen. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙We've decided that rather than call these collections of books by the rightful name of collections, or Kay's favorite, a group project... Elle has decided they're more of a pot-luck. This book got the spiciest rating for the potluck, but the smut in our opinion was pretty sweet and straightforward. Kay graces us with some completely unrelated animal facts (because there were no animal things we needed to research in this episode) and a wild video recap that you can find here (but honestly, watch at your own risk, its weird). As for the book itself, we discover that Kay is a big fan of the second chance romance, and unsurprisingly Elle, though appreciative of it in the literary world, is much more practical. Overall, both Elle and Kay gave this 3.5 ⭐⭐⭐ and have added Lights Out to their TBRs. Welcome back WITS listeners! We are joined yet again by the one and only Nik the Forge Bear to discuss Willing Prey by Allie Oleander.WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙 (there's CNC in the triggers, but we discuss whether or not it was obvious on the page)Buckle up everybody, because this is a long one (and honestly, could have been 2 hours longer... its what happens when you get 3 yappers and a smutty story in the same conversation). When Kay first read Willing Prey she knew that we absolutely had to get Nik on the show again to educate us on what we would consider one of the more rare kinks, primal play. If it's something you've never heard of, or maybe you read the book and it piqued your interest, Nik gives us some Primal Play 101. A hilarious miscommunication catches up with us an hour later, leaving Kay giggling far after the mics were turned off and well into production of the episode. We discuss the character arc of the MMC, and we are delighted to get a male perspective on some of the burning questions that we have. We get a different perspective on fan casts, and yet again Nik opens Kay's eyes to some more actors that she is sad she didn't know existed before this recording.Overall, Kay and Elle both rated this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, which was a wild rating for Elle who loved the book despite not wishing to be the FMC. 46. Fake it Til You Mate It

Welcome back WITS Listeners! We may be currently buried under mountains of snow, but we couldn't wait to talk about Fake It Til You Mate It by Sarah Spade. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙 In lieu of smutverse news this week, Elle reminds us that though the world is dark right now, we must hold on to our whimsy, even though we are and should be angry. Take care of yourselves, and take care of each other. In this week's book, Elle is displeased at the mystery behind it- but Kay asks if thats just because she wasn't able to figure it out at the beginning. We discover that Elle's affinity for true crime podcasts makes her take issue with shoddy police work in the shifter world. Kay researches a few obscure animal facts about opossums, and Elle teaches Kay another new word (if you've been around for a while, neither of these things should come as a surprise). Welcome back WITS listeners!Join us this week as we discuss Phil and the File Cabinet by Katy Ipock. WITS Smut Scale: Could be 🐙, but truly could also be 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 because there are still so many questions. We start this week's episode with another discussion on AI, and Elle brings our attention to the facts behind the AI water usage with the video linked here. For the first time in close to a year, we didn't feel jaded with a sentient object book, and it brought us back to our roots of questioning what in the smut? While we love an origin story, this file cabinet's origin story starts a little dark and only gets more confusing, and Kay really can't get over the fact that this file cabinet is not metal. Our main character Phil works in quite possibly the worst corporate job ever, with so many HR violations. As always, we get a few google searches (and some restraint on Kay's part where she DOESN'T google something for once) and learn a few new words. Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as they discuss Ducked by Rebecca Massey and Adelyne Graves. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙We start off this week's episode with a love letter to Heated Rivalry, which Kay has since watched and loved. Kay shares her thoughts on gentle parenting vs very underpaid retail workers. Both Elle and Kay fully hated the FMC's ex-husband, which we suppose is the point of it all, but didn't need to be quite as descriptive in many cases. As usual, Kay's search history got some questionable exercise, but the mind just sometimes needs a visual. We discuss the difficulty of two authors collaborating on a book, and at least we're consistent in our opinions on them based on past episodes. Both Kay and Elle got stuck on the inclusion of Greed, agreeing that it seems to be one of the more difficult deadly sins to utilize for a romance narrative. Overall, this was a miss for us, with Kay giving this ⭐ and for the first time, Elle gave this zero stars. Welcome back and Happy New Year WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as they discuss Space Vampire by the alien romance queen herself, Ruby Dixon.WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙Elle found the best book news for this week's smutverse- if you have any suggestions for the Hay Festival Pleasure List submissions, fill out the form here! With our book this week, both Kay and Elle love the new trend of groups of authors releasing a series of books with a specific theme, the best kind of group project. Kay has decided in pretty much all of these romance books, whether they are aliens, vampires, alien vampires, or anything else where the MMC is not human, the human FMC always has zero self preservation skills. Both have issues with traveling in a confined space with another individual for four months... Elle wants her alone time, and Kay is really concerned about the smell. Other than that very specific detail, Ruby Dixon does it again with making an alien romance seem reasonable.Overall, Kay gave this one 2.5⭐ while Elle rated it a little higher with 3 ⭐Affiliate links for this week's episode:Space Vampire by Ruby DixonNext week's book: Ducked by Rebecca Massey and Adelyne GravesFollow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspod and on TikTok @what.in.the.smutVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, join Elle and Kay as they discuss Midnight Drop by Lee Jacquot. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙We start this week with another disappointing smutverse update regarding the new "Ask this Book" feature on Amazon. Our take: Don't ask Amazon. Ask your friends, booktokers, book influencers, your librarian, us... you don't need AI for this, we promise! We were unaware going into this week's book that it was going to have such a cosplay-heavy vibe, but Kay learned some things and overall we thought it was a fresh take on a romance. Kay loves an enemies to lovers trope, and needs the world to know that Elle gives the best pep talks. The shot scene in this book had us absolutely on the edge of our seats, and we were loving the switch vibes that both characters were giving. Welcome back WITS listeners!!This week, join Elle and Kay as they discuss The Naughty List by Ellie Mae MacGregor. WITS Smut Rating: 🐙Despite the fact that this is only a level one on the smut scale, this week's book brings the heat. Kay found herself relating way too much with the FMC to the point where she almost wanted to put the book down, but oh boy is she glad she didn't! Elle also pictured Kay in this story, from wanting Santa to taste like hot cocoa, to using phrases that Kay has definitely been guilty of using in her day to day language. Both Elle and Kay loved the fact that Santa was ripped, with tattoos and... nipple piercings?! Kay recalls a college class lesson that may just have changed Elle's perspective on the beauty of the female form. For the second week in a row, both Elle and Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! They questioned how a book with tentacles and a throuple didn't automatically get a rating of "icky sticky tangle of tentacles" with a surprisingly sweet and detailed plot for a novella. Kay laments how books like this give her hope for running into a rockstar somewhere and them just falling in love with her, and Elle, our resident reasonable one, did nothing to help bring that hope back down to reality. Typically not fans of miscommunication tropes, this book gave us the best kind of miscommunication for the situation. Overall, this may be the first time that both Kay and Elle rated this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!! Welcome back WITS listeners!Join us this week as Elle and Kay discuss Elf'd by Ginger Kane. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙Elle and Kay discuss how its ok for there to not be a grocery list of trigger warnings, and question if "too many arms" is a content warning or a good thing. Kay recalls a time that she opened a "Santa's little helper" in a Christmas swap, though she didn't end up leaving with it that night... a shame, truly. Both ladies were momentarily confused, expecting a tiny elf instead of the delicious being that appeared in front of the FMC Holly. Kay is back on board with no peppermint flavoring being used in today's story, but Elle still hates that the scent is mostly sugar based. We did feel a little bad for the MMC in his "once a year" lifestyle, but he does turn back into the toy that she can utilize year round. Now that we are firmly back on our sentient object bullshit two weeks in a row, Kay rated this ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 and Elle surprised us both with ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!Affiliate links for this episode:Elf'd by Ginger KaneNext week: Tinsel and Tentacles by Kate McDarrisFollow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspod and on TikTok @what.in.the.smutVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙We are back on our sentient object romance bullshit this week, with a welcomed palate cleanser after the Thanksgiving and Halloween smut of late. Kay introduces Elle to a necessary pop culture SNL character moment, though Elle may disagree... Superstar anyone? For the first time, Kay is really put off by a flavor/scent because she know's it wouldn't be pleasant. We also uncover a potential life plot hole in the form of kitchen location... is your kitchen in the front of the house??This week, Elle gave the book ⭐⭐⭐ while Kay was a little higher at ⭐⭐⭐.5Affilliate Links for this week's episode:Frisky the Snowman by Lauren BielNext Week: Elf'd by Ginger KaneFollow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspod and on TikTok @what.in.the.smutVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, Elle and Kay are joined by Jayce from Jayce Reads Romance to discuss Back for Seconds by J.L. Logosz and Vera Valentine.WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙In this episode, Kay uncovers the plot hole of the wishbone not having the time to dry before snapping, and both Elle and Jayce had chalked it up to something thats only been done on movies and in books. We all struggle a little bit with the second person point of view, and we're glad that its not all that common in books. Kay tries desperately to make sense of the Thanksgiving meal being able to work in tandem because they've been together for so long (middle of the Civil War- who knew? (not Kay, thats for sure). We all come to the consensus that 5 is too many. Oh- and Justice for Gregg!Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐, Jayce rated this ⭐⭐, and Elle went with ⭐.5. Welcome back WITS listeners!!Join us as we continue the Thanksgiving theme and discuss this week's book, Home for the Gobble Days by Latrexa Nova. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙This week, Elle and Kay debate whether ghost sex is a real kink but agree that one of the opening scenes of this book would put someone firmly in whether or not they are into exhibitionism. A few of the plot holes in timing make our resident traveler, Elle, quite irritated. You won't eat a full dinner 10 minutes after you land from a red eye! Kay gets a history lesson in a way that she likes, and uses some of her own historical New England knowledge. Elle shares information that she learned at a much later age than she would have hoped for, and it all makes sense why we get the ted talk most weeks! We were happy to have rated this higher than the past few weeks, with Kay giving this ⭐⭐⭐.5 and Elle rating this ⭐⭐⭐.Affiliate links for this episodeHome for the Gobble Days by Latrexa NovaNext week: Back for Seconds by J.L. Welcome back WITS Listeners! This week, Elle and Kay discuss a new kink in Freeuse Thanksgiving by April Cross and Matt Lake. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙The reviews get us going this week, with a mention of AI narration for the audiobook, and boy do we have thoughts. The book being written by two different authors also gives an interesting perspective, but we can tell that the MMC is written by a man. The introduction to the new-to-us kink of Freeuse could have had some more information about the lifestyle, but we leaned toward having issue with the fact that the FMC had until just recently been a virgin. Overall, this was another week of ⭐ ratings from both Elle and Kay, who had higher hopes for this storyline. Welcome back WITS listeners. Halloween is over, its time to get grateful. Are we grateful that we read this book... you be the judge of that one. This week, Elle and Kay discussed Basted by Abby Hunter. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 This week, Elle has some "what not to do" financial advice in the first year of a relationship, and Kay gets to the root of where her hopeless romantic ideals come from. They question the choice to keep the MMCs as turkey basters instead of going the typical sentient object route of turning them into men, though the addition of magical tendrils helps a little. Also, as always, Elle has a visceral reaction to the introduction of gravy into places gravy should never go. Overall, this was a ⭐ from both Elle and Kay. Nik coins a new gender neutral term, and comes up with a term of endearment that both he and Elle are not at liberty to use as members of Camp No Candy Corn.Overall, Kay gives this ⭐⭐⭐ while both Nik and Elle rated it a little higher at ⭐⭐⭐.5, and then we get a special treat of dual fan casts from Kay and Nik.A very special thank you to Nik the Forge Bear for joining us!!Affiliate Links for this episode:Corny by Sabrina CrossNext week: Basted by Abby HunterFollow us on Instagram and Threads @thewitspodFollow Nik on Instagram and TikTokVisit our Buy Me a Coffee page!Don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, and tell all your friends!Love Sponge byTriple5 Here is licensed under a Attribution 4.0 International License.

Kay related quite a bit to one of the main characters, as someone who tends to get herself into uncomfortable conversations with crying strangers. Though both preferred the storyline of Man Candy to the Hallowpeens, Elle had a LOT to say regarding sugar in certain areas. To finish things off, Kay creates a list of all of Holly's puns... that woman really should create her own thesaurus! Yes, please! Unfortunately we get immediately smacked in the face with several red flags. As usual, we get a mid-episode Googling, and Kay actually likes the historical significance that comes along with this story. We discuss a new-to-us kink that hasn't popped up in one of the books we've read, and as always... we learn a little more about ourselves in the process. This week's book has us discussing unsafe first date behavior (hello, meeting in secret at midnight is never going to be a good idea) which ultimately gives us a morally grey meet cute. We were pleased to discover that we've got a monster peen on an otherwise mostly human (with a pumpkin head) MMC, and Kay is on board with the full sensory experience. Also, yet another standard 6'4" romantic lead, which Kay is here for. For a halloween themed monster romance, we were pleasantly surprised with the cozy feel and HEA. Welcome back WITS listeners!!This week, join Elle and Kay as they discuss Riding the Headless Horseman by Molly Likovich. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙This week's kicks off a month of Halloween themed books! Elle takes issue with the fact that the FMC doesn't believe in the entity of Death when she herself is a witch. Both Kay and Elle agree that the fact that he removes the pumpkin head is way creepier than if it had stayed on throughout, and discuss how important kissing is for intimacy, even with the undead. Kay questions if the relationship power dynamics in this story would have made more sense if it wasn't so rushed. For once, though they would have both hated it, the ladies agree that the next logical step in this book would have been an accidental pregnancy trope (spoiler, its not.)Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐ while Elle only gave this a ⭐. Welcome back WITS listeners!Join us this week as Elle and Kay discuss Gaga for the Gargoyle by Settle Myer. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙This week was a fun one, as Elle really felt the nostalgia from the Gargoyles show during her youth. We discovered that even 999 year old Gargoyles struggle with conversations on the dating apps, and think that a monster dating app sounds like a ton of fun. As always, we're excited when a monster is created with fun monster additives (vibrating tail anyone?)We also have a very exciting addition to the end of this episode, with a brief interview with Settle Myer herself from the Smut Lovers Conference this past weekend in Orlando. She was SO sweet and we were so glad she agreed to answer some of our burning questions with us for a bit. Welcome back WITS listeners! This week, Elle and Kay discuss Little Slice of Hell by Clio EvansWITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙This book is a lot darker than some of our other books, which was just fine with Kay, who loves a dark romance. Elle and Kay were both surprised that we somehow managed to do the first book in a series, and are both interested in reading the books that follow. As with any darker romance, we encourage listeners to take care of themselves and check the trigger warnings before reading or listening. We do find ourselves wishing that we had a male perspective this week, as the only female character is a coffee shop waitress that has no real role in the story. WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙 (this was a compromise- the spice is low, but there's 3 people so listen at your own discretion) This book sends us back to 2015 in so many ways, and honestly times were simpler back then. Elle is shocked to find out that Kay still uses pinterest, but not at all shocked at her love of the PSL- just don't call her a pumpkin spiced sexual. We're not sure what it says about us, but we were both disappointed that the coffee doesn't turn into a man (blame the margarita book from a few episodes back. Elle is truly horrified, as always, at the lack of outrage at a beverage being spilled all over someone. Too sticky. And hot. As always, it wouldn't be an episode if we didn't research something mid-conversation. Overall, this one was too weird for Kay, and Elle admits that this book made Corn Daddy seem less weird. Elle definitely has a favorite fork, but definitely not the same kind of fork as our main character. Kay is still mad about the financial burden that the main character took on, only to be essentially ghosted, and would have rage-returned those clothes immediately. Welcome back WITS listeners!!Oh boy do we have a special one for you today. This week, in honor of the upcoming fall season, we read Corn Daddy by Helena Woodcock.WITS Smut Scale Rating: 🐙🐙🐙🐙We weren't really prepared for all of the dark romance elements in this book, which we really should have, considering the shopping list of trigger warnings. Elle and Kay discuss whether or not we would have the same reaction to finding ourselves in the predicament where our main character first meets the Corn King. We were also surprised to find that Corn Daddy has some boundaries when they first appear to not be on the same page with what they were each looking for out of their relationship. Also, we may never look at an ear of corn or melted butter the same way ever again. This was the first book in a while that Kay and Elle had drastic differences in their ratings! Elle thought this was juuuust a little too weird for her and gave this ⭐⭐ while Kay loved the dark romance elements and thought it was also kind of hilarious, giving this ⭐⭐⭐⭐. They discuss yet another sentient object/shifter romance, with yet another food flavored... well, you know. To start- Kay gives Elle a bit of an education on the difference between Men's and Women's gymnastics (with the limited knowledge that she has). Kay has her own little Ted Talk about germs on gym equipment, and she continues to struggle with the names of some of these sentient object characters. Also, Elle became Kay's idol in sharing a story about her own past, and honestly- goals.Overall, Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐.5 stars, and Kay gave it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ . What a nice change of pace! WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙Elle and Kay are slowly coming back to life after never wanting to hear the word basilisk ever again, and finally got to read about a threesome that we feel we were owed with the last book. Kay was momentarily (actually, it was several hours) left without power after speaking it into the universe during a thunderstorm while recording, but we got right back into it. We discuss whether or not a women writing about a FMC with her virginity would have written this in an entirely different way, but lets be serious, we could tell the writer was a man. We also find ourselves questioning... do men really think like this?Overall, Kay gave this ⭐ due to the overwhelming virgin story arc, and Elle gave it a ⭐ because the two men were a little creepy and annoying. If you listened to part one, and you're back for part two, you're one of the real ones! This week, Elle and Kay discuss the ritual that Tem needs to go through in order to be accepted by her basilisk boyfriend's father. We continue to be disappointed that this love triangle never turns into a why choose, and we question if we've reached our limit of how much smut is too much smut in one book. Overall, this gets ⭐⭐, from both Elle and Kay, due in large part to giving credit to the author where it's due.... over 500 pages is a huge feat to write! As for Kay's fan cast... she googled "boring actresses" to find the casting for Tem. In this week's book, Lena's luck certainly turned around on her birthday, and we're still not totally sure why Kyle is so "good in these situations." Sonny, a 30 something bartender who has just about given up on dating gets the ultimate set-up from her boss that leads to some spicy margaritas and yet another talk from Elle about where things should and should not go.Overall, Kay gave this one 3 stars, and Elle clocked in around 3.5If you have experience sexual assault, you do not have to carry that alone. 15. Washed Up (with a Kraken)

Welcome back WITS Listeners!!Join us this week as Elle and Kay discuss Washed Up (with a Kraken) by L. E. Eldridge.WITS Smut Scale Rating: 🐙🐙 and 1/2This week is a long one! Elle and Kay have some deep discussions about gender identity and how we need to work hard and hold each other accountable to undo some of our own conditioning when it comes to gender and romance novels. We discuss how Quinn is really just Belle with a kitchen instead of a library, and how we're still kind of mad that she lost out on going back to that chef job that she 100% deserved.Overall, Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 and Kay was close with ⭐⭐⭐Affiliate Links:Washed Up (with a Kraken) by L. 14. SPF Me

Welcome back WITS listeners!Join Elle and Kay as they kick off summer and discuss SPF Me by Holly Wilde.WITS Smut Scale Rating: 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 There truly is no plot- even the author said so!This book took us on a "WILDE" ride. Sentient sunscreen bottles that come alive but don't get to be full sized men? As always, we question many of the logistics. Both Kay and Elle each have their own soap box moments as they discuss sun safety, sunscreen safety, and what body parts should not be tanned.Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐ while Elle gave it ⭐⭐.5. They agreed that the stars for this one came more from the humor and creativity than the smut itself. If we could tweak the plot just a tiny bit for the fan cast, and make them actually turn into life sized men though... that'd be a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ easily.Affiliate Links:SPF ME by Holly WildeNext Week: Washed Up (with a Kraken) by L.E.
