    Letter To My Mother

Send a text2025 is five years since my mother died. This letter is something I wrote to her when I was just entering adulthood and I felt it appropriate to share it on her birthday which was on the 5th of April. I miss my mother every day and I wish she were still here with me to see me through some of the life events I've experienced since she died. I owe my mother a lot. I never told her when she was here but I hope in this small way, I can honour her. Support the show

    Ashes to Ashes

Send a textThis poem is one of my earlier works in 2020. It was the year my mother died and it speaks about the day we went to pick up her ashes at the funeral home. It was probably one of the hardest days of my life. I remember it clearly, almost as if it happened just yesterday. I hope that if you are someone who lost a loved one and you listen to this piece, that you will remember that loved ones are never really lost when they die. They simply live on in everything around and within you. Thank you to J Ross once again for producing the beautiful music on this piece. Support the show

    Blood On My Hands

Send a textBlood on my hands tells a story of a little girl who went through an excruciating and life-altering experience by the hands of her stepfather. It tells the story of how victims always blame themselves and how the scars linger, years after the ordeal happened. These scars are not always visible but they are there nonetheless. This a story of a little girl who used pain and is working very hard to turn it into purpose. The little girl is me. A huge thank you to J Ross for producing the music on this very special piece. Support the show

    In The Company Of Men

Send a textI wanted to share this piece as part of the 16 Days of Activism against violence against women and children but I missed my deadline. That being said, its still relevant. This piece speaks about the physical touch of a man on a woman's body and how it can make us feel sometimes.A woman is to be loved, cherished and treated with care. This piece also serves as a reminder that a woman is more than her body and that should always be respected. Music by J RossPoem by Kim Fray Support the show

To The Woman In Proverbs 31 - A Poem

Send a textI think we all know Proverbs 31. It's an inspiring scripture on what it means to be a Godly woman. I love it, I truly do and I do aspire to be that kind of woman but when I imagine the woman who inspired the scripture, I think of her as someone, who just like me, struggles sometimes and that is why I wrote this poem. I wanted to bring the woman  in Proverbs 31 closer to home. I wanted to remind myself and you as well, that we are all capable of being that type of woman, even when we have bad days. As a woman, a wife and a mom, you are more capable than you could ever imagine and I hope that when you listen to this, you believe it. Support the show

Discussing my poem 'I Am Her' with Project Isizwe

Send a textI was invited by Project Isizwe to discuss my poem 'I Am Her'. It's part of my Women's Month content for August in South Africa, ahead of Women's Day on the 9th of August. Speaking about why I wrote the poem and hearing how it inspired others made a huge impact in my life and I am deeply grateful for this opportunity. You can listen to the poem here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5IIfrlsiuNOw22VjFUCS7r?si=wrLDJMo5QrqKJnS4ipjwKwSupport the show

    I Am Her - A Poem

Send a textThis poem was written a few years ago. It's sort of a conversation between myself and well, myself. As women, we are put under immense pressure to look a certain way, act a certain way and be a certain way. This poem was me telling myself that I am enough - just the way I am. Yes, there is always room for improvement but I am I worthy and because of Christ, I am always being refined. I hope this piece speaks to you and allows you to remember who you are. Support the show

Dear Mother - A tribute poem to my late mother

Send a textI wrote this poem when my mother was still alive. I think I gifted it to her somehow. Today is the 3rd anniversary of her death, so I thought I'd bring it back to life again. J Ross produced the music. You can also read the poem on my blog at https://wordsinverse.com/2021/05/dear-mother/Support the show

    The White Dress

Send a textThis poem I wrote in honour of my late mother, Mindra Flanagan. She had a beautiful white dress she wore to various events; a wedding, the ballet. She looked so beautiful in it, and I wrote this to remember her in that way; beautiful and elegant. She died on the 26th of June 2020. The poem was written in 2021 and was originally published by the Quillkeeper's Press in the Anthology titled ' Rearing In The Rearview' You can find Quillkeeper's Press here: https://www.quillkeeperspress.com/?fbclid=PAAaZv_BYYae-PAylV2goKPiIeolWgIIfRg4WHKGHuPcKcYuWQ-YClbJdmMgAMay her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. Music by J RossSupport the show

    The Writing's on the Wall

Send a textThis poem was inspired by a visit to Freedom Park in Pretoria right before our Mama Afrika event in April where I recited this poem live. I saw and learned many things about our history at Freedom Park, and each word and line in this poem is inspired by what I saw, felt, and experienced. In writing this, I hope to keep our history and stories alive as Africans. Support the show

My Love Is Wild - A Poem

Send a textThis poem was inspired by the rawness and vulnerability of love, true love, and the possibility and opportunities it can provide if received well. My Love Is Wild was written and published in 2018 from a personal point of view. I hope you can open yourself up to this kind of love.Music by Jamela 'J Ross'  Vuma. Support the show
