Does laser hair removal hurt and other things mom never taught you
In this post we answer your burning question: does laser hair removal hurt? Let’s talk about hair, shall we? Some people are into it (and you do you, girlfriend) but there’s a large amount of women out there who would rather listen to their boyfriends talk about watches and cars for eight hours than go in the bathroom and shave their legs, amirite? Caitlyn and I chatted about this on our podcast this week (listen below) but I’m also going to lay out the 4-1-1 to our most burning (pun intended) laser hair removal Qs. http://www.theprivvy.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Podcast1.m4a So, does laser hair removal hurt? The honest but totally groan-worthy answer is, it depends. As you’ll hear in our podcast, the common answer is “it feels like a bunch of hot rubber bands snapping your skin.” But like, idk what kind of Christian Grey shit you’re into, but I have literally no idea what that feels like. I have had many sessions of tattoo removal (which I’ll cover another time), and compared to that, it was like walking on a cloud holding hands with Blue Ivy Carter eating an ice cream cone. Some places offer numbing cream and quite frankly, I’ve had it with and without the numbing cream and really couldn’t tell a difference. The place I go uses a machine that blows cold air at the same time and that helps a lot. So basically my answer to the “does laser hair removal hurt” question is, yes, but not so much that it’s not worth it. When I compare the pain to the results, the end is worth the means, the juice is worth the squeeze, whatever. How long after having laser hair removal can you have sex? THIS IS OBVIOUSLY IMPORTANT OK. You should wait at least 24 hours after having your lady parts Buzz Lightyeared to have sex. You want to avoid sweating in the area because it could cause irritation, so no gym either. (Darn.) What should I do before I go to my first session? #1: Shave. For some reason people think that you need a Barbara Bush for the laser to target the hair, but that actually makes the laser less effective. It’s actually targeting the hair follicle, so if the laser wastes energy on the shaft (hate when that happens) then it won’t be able to reach the follicle as well. #2: Don’t tan – in the sun (which you need to stop doing anyway) or with a spray tan. The ideal candidate for laser hair removal is anyone with light skin and dark hair (so literally me). Tanning can make it harder for the laser to target the hair follicle. I spray tan, so a week or so before my brazilian laser session I’ll wear boyshorts in the spray booth – as you can imagine it’s a super cute look. The guys dig it. What happens after? OK. I’ve read a bajillion articles about what happens after your sessions and they all say different things and literally none of them describe my results, so I’m just going to lay that out for you. I’ve had two sessions on my underarms and one brazilian session, so I’ll update after I’ve had more but here’s what happened after both of my underarm sessions: first, I didn’t notice a difference for at least a week, probably two. My hair still grew in everywhere at the exact same pace and I still shaved per usual. Then at around two weeks, I started noticing that my hair wasn’t growing back in some places and it was much less coarse in others. It was like that for ~2 more weeks, and then some (but not all) of the hair started to grow back again. As for the brazilian (hey mom, I’m talking about my vagina on the Internet!) I can tell a major difference already. Just like the underarms, hair still grew at the same rate for about two weeks. Now (it’s been about five weeks since my first session), it only grows in patches. It actually looks terrible but at least I know it’s working! How much does it cost? It’s different pretty much everywhere and also I was on (prescribed!!) pain medication when I purchased my package that included brazilian and underarm so I have literally no idea. How do I figure out where to get it done? Google “laser hair removal” in your area and read the Yelp reviews! It’s very important to actually read them. Sometimes negative reviews are absolutely ridiculous (“Your receptionist put me on hold for 1 minute so I’m only leaving you 1 star!”) and sometimes they’re really telling (“This doctor pays people to leave positive reviews!”). Laser + your body isn’t a combo you want to F around with, so do your research. Hope that helps! I’ll be Snapchatting my sessions (not the brazilian you freak) so follow @theprivvy on Snapchat to see what the process is actually like! xx, katy The post Does laser hair removal hurt and other things mom never taught you appeared first on The Privvy.
