Tattoos Inspired by Sedona, Tolkien, and Anthony Bourdain
If someone's thinking about getting a tattoo, ignore everybody. There's no right or wrong way to get a tattoo. Do what makes you happy. If you want to get it, get it.Welcome to Episode 17, where you’ll meet C.C. Chapman, an author, a brilliant marketing strategist, and a Professor at Wheaton College, where he prepares and educates the next generation of marketers, business students, thinkers, mavericks, changemakers, and misfits. C.C.’s ink story begins in Sedona, Arizona, where he was vacationing with his wife. He was so inspired by the area and a well-known artist, that he spontaneously stepped into a tattoo studio, shared his vision for the design, and got his first tattoo. It took years before C.C. ventured into getting his second tattoo. The longing for more ink was there, but he wanted to choose the right design. After careful consideration, C.C. chose two inspiring quotes for each forearm – one from J.R.R. Tolkien – not all who wander are lost; the other from Anthony Bourdain – travel changes you. Here are the full quotes:“All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost. The old that is strong does not wither. Deep roots are not reached by the frost.” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship Ring“Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life — and travel — leaves marks on you.” ~ Anthony BourdainC.C. is very clear about his next tattoo – a tribute to his favorite musician, Prince. In fact, C.C. has a special request to anyone in the New England area: if you know a talented tattoo artist who specializes in watercolors, please let C.C. know! From his nervous first tattoo experience (he almost passed out!), to the meaningful art that adorns his body today, you will enjoy hearing C.C.’s inkspiring tattoo stories.Thank you for tuning in and being a part of the Your Ink Story community. Together, we're celebrating and amplifying the power of self-expression through tattoos!Be sure to join us over on Instagram @tellmeyourinkstory to see the video showcasing C.C.’s INKsirational quote tattoos.A special shoutout to C.C.’s talented tattoo artist Dan Bythewood at Ghost in the Machine tattoo studio in Boston, MA. Tattoos as Symbols of Identity, Resilience and Empathy
"I want us as a society to stop assuming and stop leading with negative intent. If we all lead with good intent, and we look to understand a story behind someone's motivation for getting a tattoo and the journey of what it means to that person personally, then we're moving in the right direction."On this INKspirational episode our guest, Stephen Vellecca, takes us on a profound journey of self-expression, acceptance, and empathy.Stephen shares many of the 20 meaningful tattoos he has chosen, each symbolizing a different aspect of his life. A Wonder Woman tattoo representing truth, vulnerability, and non-violence, an homage to his icon, Stevie Nicks, whose music has guided him through challenging moments, an OM tattoo, a galloping mustang illustrating his love and passion for the Ford Mustang, a seahorse tattoo representing strength and resilience, an anchor tattoo honoring the joy he provides for his friends and family on his boat named "SS Rhiannon," and many more designs that all resonate deeply within him.Throughout this episode, Stephen challenges societal judgments on tattoos, reminding us that it's the personal meaning behind the ink that truly matters. Don't hide your uniqueness. Express yourself proudly, whether through art, tattoos, or personal choices. Society is slowly realizing the value of individuality, and we should all play a part in fostering this acceptance.Whether it's through his love for music, his involvement in his community, or his dedication to helping others unlock their potential, Stephen's story is filled with creativity, passion, and the power of authentic self-expression.A special shoutout to Stephen's talented tattoo artist Jeff Schick, who works out of Forsaken Ink in Milford, NJ. Welcome back to another INKspiring episode that dives deep into the world of self-expression through body art.Our guest is Dr. Jae Williams, an award-winning educator who has spent over a decade supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in K-12 and at the college and university levels. With almost his entire body adorned in ink, except for his back and stomach, Dr. Jae reminds us that tattoos are not simply marks on the skin; they are powerful forms of art, telling a story of cultural heritage, personal passions, and significant moments.I was especially moved by the touching tribute behind Dr. Jae’s first tattoo at age 16: a basketball with angel wings and his best friend's basketball number, serving as a memorial to his dear friend who tragically passed away during a game. A Tale of Time and Family Told Through Tattoos
Welcome back to Your Ink Story podcast! Joining us is Rob Galvin, a Marine construction pro with an incredible collection of meaningful tattoos. Throughout this episode, Rob delves into the personal significance behind each piece of body art, from his Dad taking him to get his first tattoo, to the art representing his deep love for his family, and the significant reminders to cherish every moment of life.Fun fact: Rob loves to watch the tattoo artist bring to life each design. He finds watching the design unfolding through the needle therapeutic!I was especially touched by Rob’s Jim Croce tattoo – Time in a Bottle – referencing the impermanence of life. The tattoo artist brilliantly captured the concept of time slipping away – with sand in an hourglass forming into a skull at the bottom of a bottle. A powerful reminder to cherish every moment! As Rob shared: “Many of us have tattoos that remind us to seize the day and appreciate each moment, especially when we're away from loved ones. They serve as a constant reminder to savor the present and not let time slip away unnoticed.”Tattoos have a unique power to capture our emotions, memories, and personal growth. Be sure to hop on over to Your Ink Story’s Instagram feed to watch the video reel showcasing Rob's INKspirational tattoos.Shoutout to Jen Lee at Golden Hammer Studios for inking many of Rob’s beautiful tattoos!Thank you for listening to this episode of Your Ink Story. Please rate and review this podcast wherever you are tuning in, and if this episode inspired you, please share it, so we can bring more people together, inspire connection, and ignite conversations that go beyond the surface. If you or someone you know has an ink story to share on the podcast, please send me an email: [email protected] share your thoughts and INKspirations from these conversations in the comment threads wherever you’re tuning in … or over on Instagram @tellmeyourinkstory… or leave a voice message via the mic icon located at the bottom right of yourinkstory.com.Waving from Boston and wishing you a delicious day, everywhere you glow – cheers!Ande ♥Connect with Your Ink Story and Ande on Social Media: Instagram: Your Ink Story and Ande Lyons TikTok: Your Ink Story and Ande Lyons Facebook: Your Ink Story and Ande Lyons Connect with Your Ink Story and Ande on Social Media:Instagram: Your Ink Story and Ande LyonsTikTok: Your Ink Story and Ande LyonsFacebook: Your Ink Story and Ande LyonsThreads: Your Ink Story and Ande LyonsLinkedIn: Your Ink Story and Ande Lyons Subscribe to Your Ink Story's Substack here
