Neutrality, Wisdom & Walking in the Spirit

02/19/2026 44 min 11 sec

In the previous episode, we were supposed to wrap up The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley. After waking up at 3 a.m. to record a full 57-minute episode, the final 17 minutes didn’t save. Rather than end abruptly, this episode finishes the discussion properly. We conclude our book club conversation by examining two final spiritual markers of the Spirit-filled life:The Word of GodWisdomWe also prepare for our next book club selection: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. We will begin in about two weeks after midterms, so go ahead and grab your copy now.Marker #3: The Word of GodCharles Stanley outlines three key reading principles that help believers live a Spirit-filled life.1. Look for Principles, Not Just PromisesMany believers are promise-centered, always searching for what God will do for them. But principles are more powerful for decision-making.A principle works like an equation:If you do A, expect B.If you ignore A, expect C.When you consistently study the Word, those principles become ingrained. You won’t need to pause life to search for answers. The Holy Spirit will bring truth to your mind in real time. For Christian entrepreneurs especially, this is critical. You must be able to:Make decisions quicklyMaintain spiritual accuracyMove without paralysisThat kind of discernment only comes when the Word is already in you.2. Read with Context — Remain NeutralOne of the most important themes of this episode is neutrality.Do not approach Scripture trying to get something out of it. Approach it to know Him.In an age of algorithms constantly feeding us what we already want to see, neutrality is difficult. But it is essential. Otherwise, we risk:Confusing digital marketing for confirmationConfusing algorithms for the Holy SpiritReading our desires into the text instead of receiving what it actually saysWhen you read neutrally, you allow the Word to confront you instead of you manipulating it to support what you already want.Neutrality produces peace, clarity, sensitivity, and maturity. If you approach Scripture asking, “How can I get God to work for me?” you will miss it.When you approach asking, “How can I be closer to Him?” everything changes.3. Look for General PromisesThere are promises given to all believers for all time, including:Jesus’ promise not to leave us as orphans (John 14:18)Grace and mercy when we approach God (Hebrews 4:16)Strength for the weary (Isaiah 40:31)While God still speaks, He has already spoken extensively through Scripture. Personal revelation should always be filtered through biblical truth.Approaching the Word strictly from a mystical or subjective lens is dangerous. Spiritual maturity requires emotional maturity, restraint, and accountability.Marker #4: WisdomThe final spiritual marker of a Spirit-filled life is wisdom. The defining question: What is the wise thing for me to do?Wisdom exposes hidden motives. It shines light on greed, selfishness, pride, and lust.Wisdom goes beyond right and wrong.Something may not be sinful — but it may still not be wise. The Holy Spirit does not merely pull us away from sin. He keeps us far from the edge.Walking in WisdomExamples discussed in this episode include:Disengaging instead of escalating when triggeredAvoiding environments that may not be sinful but are not wiseListening to internal promptings before temptation escalatesLeaving a social setting when wisdom says it is time to goThe Spirit-filled life is not about seeing how close you can get to the line without crossing it. It is about walking wisely and staying far from the brink. The Three-Dimensional Wisdom QuestionWhen making decisions, ask:What is the wise thing to do in light of my past experience? What is the wise thing to do in light of my present situation? What is the wise thing to do in light of my future hopes and calling? The Holy Spirit takes into account your history, your vulnerabilities, and your destiny. When He prompts you, it is for protection.Ignoring wisdom can have lasting consequences.Final ChargeIf you are not reading your Bible daily, start now.Buy a translation you understand. Read a little every day.Through daily reading, you give the Holy Spirit access to your mind and heart — access necessary for transformation.Next Book Club PickThe Ruthless Elimination of Hurry – John Mark ComerWe will begin in approximately two weeks. The Bible Is the Holy Spirit’s Thoughts on Paper

02/12/2026 43 min 37 sec

In this episode of the Blessed + Bossed Up Book Club, we continue wrapping up The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley by exploring one of the most important markers of living in step with the Holy Spirit: the Word of God.If you want to know what the Holy Spirit is saying, you must know what He has already said. The Bible is not just a collection of stories—it is the Holy Spirit’s thoughts on paper. It is objective, timeless truth that anchors us when our emotions, desires, and circumstances try to pull us in different directions. In this episode, I share why Scripture is the most reliable way to discern God’s will, the difference between subjective and objective study, and how to approach the Word in a way that produces spiritual maturity. I also share personal reflections on discipleship, parenting, and how God uses everyday moments to redirect us back to His truth. We also announce our next Blessed + Bossed Up Book Club pick: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer—a powerful follow-up that will help us establish a pace of life that keeps us aligned with the Spirit.Key TakeawaysThe Bible is the Holy Spirit’s most objective tool for revealing God’s willScripture is not just stories—it is a living, relevant, and authoritative guide for our livesMany believers rely too heavily on subjective feelings instead of objective truthSpiritual maturity requires balancing personal application with disciplined, objective studyPrinciples in Scripture provide timeless guidance for decision-makingEliminating hurry is essential to maintaining sensitivity to the Holy SpiritDiscipleship begins at home and in everyday conversationsScripture References2 Peter 1:20–21 — Scripture inspired by the Holy SpiritGalatians 6:7 — You reap what you sowProverbs 13:20 — The influence of your associationsProverbs 12:1 — Correction produces wisdomProverbs 12:19 — Truth endures2 Corinthians 9:6 — Generosity produces increasePhilippians 4:19 — God provides for His peopleBook Club Announcement: Our Next ReadOur next Blessed + Bossed Up Book Club selection is:The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark ComerThis book addresses one of the greatest threats to our spiritual sensitivity: hurry. Train Your Spirit Before the Test Comes

02/06/2026 42 min 45 sec

In this episode, Tatum shares a timely message about building spiritual muscle memory—the discipline of training your spirit to respond automatically to God, especially in seasons of pressure, warfare, and transition.Just as physical muscle memory develops through consistent repetition, spiritual muscle memory develops through daily prayer, studying the Word, obedience, and intentional separation from environments that weaken your spiritual strength. This episode serves as both an encouragement and a call to action for those who know they are being stretched, tested, and prepared for greater responsibility. Tatum explains why spiritual consistency—not emotional intensity—is what sustains you through seasons of elevation and opposition. If you have been feeling pressure in multiple areas of your life, this episode will help you understand what is happening, how to respond, and how to strengthen your spiritual posture so you can stand firm in what God has called you to do.In This Episode, You’ll Learn:What spiritual muscle memory is and why it mattersWhy spiritual disciplines must become automatic, not occasionalHow consistent prayer strengthens your spiritual resilienceThe difference between repetition and quality repetition in spiritual growthWhy studying and understanding scripture deeply increases its effectiveness in your lifeHow environments and habits can either strengthen or weaken your spiritual positionThe importance of accountability in maintaining spiritual disciplineHow to proactively prepare for seasons of elevation and oppositionKey Concepts DiscussedSpiritual Muscle Memory Training your spirit to respond to God automatically through consistent prayer, scripture study, and obedience.Quality Repetition Not just hearing the Word, but studying it, writing it down, understanding it, and applying it so it becomes embedded within you.Proactive Spiritual Discipline Building strength before crisis occurs so your response is rooted in truth, not emotion.Separation and Protection Removing yourself from environments and habits that weaken your spiritual clarity and authority.Accountability and Spiritual Covering Strengthening your spiritual consistency through prayer partnerships and community.Scripture ReferencedEphesians 6:13–17 — The Armor of GodJames 5:16 — “The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.”Ephesians 6:12 — Spiritual warfare is not against flesh and bloodPractical Ways to Build Spiritual Muscle MemoryPray daily and consistentlyStudy and write down scripture to deepen understandingPut on the armor of God intentionallyRemove yourself from environments that weaken your disciplineEstablish accountability through prayer partnerships or communityMeditate on the Word so it becomes your automatic responseReflection QuestionsWhat spiritual disciplines have become inconsistent in your life?Where is God calling you to strengthen your spiritual foundation? What environments, habits, or distractions may be weakening your spiritual clarity? What daily practices can you implement to build spiritual muscle memory?Resources MentionedBibleHub.comBibleStudyTools.comGotQuestions.orgA study Bible for deeper context and understandingOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Core Competencies of Commitment

01/30/2026 41 min 53 sec

In this episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, Tatum reframes commitment from a biblical perspective. Rather than defining commitment as discipline, motivation, or consistency, she defines it as spiritual restraint—the willingness to restrict your freedom of action in order to fully submit to God’s way. This teaching explores why commitment is a distinguishing mark of believers and how inconsistent restraint can quietly lead us from dependence on the Holy Spirit into self-sufficiency.Episode HighlightsA biblical definition of commitment as restraintWhy commitment is a marker of spiritual maturityHow good intentions can still lead to compromiseThe difference between good ideas and God ideasWhy God cares about how we start, continue, and finishBiblical Foundation: Asa and Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles)Tatum examines the lives of King Asa and King Jehoshaphat to show how waning commitment and partial obedience produced long-term consequences. Both kings were generally faithful but inconsistent in restraint:Asa obeyed God early in his reign but later relied on alliances rather than the Lord.Jehoshaphat followed God in major decisions but compromised in daily and strategic ones.Their stories reveal that partial obedience and strategic compromise can open doors we never intended to open. The Five Core Competencies of CommitmentCommitment to the Lord should be distinguishable. These five competencies serve as markers of true spiritual commitment:A Clear and Clean Heart Commitment begins with the inner condition of the heart. Unaddressed pride, bitterness, anger, and self-reliance hinder obedience. Scriptures: Matthew 5:8; 1 Samuel 16:7Courage Courage is the spiritual strength to obey God despite fear, risk, or opposition. Obedience often requires moving forward without certainty. Scripture: Joshua 1:9Diligence Diligence is steady, faithful obedience over time. Longevity in calling, business, and ministry is built on faithfulness, not motivation. Scripture: Proverbs 21:5Precision Precision means doing exactly what God said—no more and no less. Dependence on God is required to walk out assignments with accuracy.Contentment Contentment is an inner sufficiency rooted in trust in God’s sovereignty, independent of external circumstances. Scriptures: Philippians 4:11–13; 1 Timothy 6:6–8Faith and Human BehaviorResearch shows that commitment bridges the gap between intention and action. Many people struggle not because they lack desire, but because they lack commitment. This biblical framework for commitment not only produces consistency in action, but also spiritual fruit, deeper intimacy with God, and alignment with His will.Closing ThoughtCommitment is not about productivity alone. It is about pleasing the Father, finishing the assignment, and stewarding the life God entrusted to us.If this episode blessed you, please leave a five-star review. Understanding Peace as a Spiritual Marker

01/26/2026 44 min 19 sec

In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, we continue our book club discussion of The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley, wrapping up Part Three of the book. These final chapters focus on the spiritual markers the Holy Spirit uses to confirm God’s will—and today’s conversation dives into the first two: peace and the conscience.Tatum unpacks why peace is often the first and clearest indicator that the Holy Spirit is either affirming or resisting a decision. Through a powerful story from Charles Stanley’s own ministry—where waiting on God led to a debt-free miracle—this episode challenges the tendency to panic, self-rely, or rationalize disobedience when God seems silent. The episode also includes several personal testimonies illustrating how the absence or presence of peace has guided major life decisions, from entrepreneurship and ministry to relationships and family choices. These stories highlight that spiritual maturity is not a prerequisite for the Holy Spirit to lead—He speaks from the very beginning of our walk with God.In the second half of the episode, the discussion turns to Stanley’s second marker: the conscience. While acknowledging the biblical framework presented in the book, Tatum offers honest reflection and thoughtful critique, questioning whether the conscience should be treated as a distinct marker separate from the Holy Spirit’s work of renewing the mind. This portion of the conversation invites listeners into deeper discernment, encouraging them to study Scripture, pray intentionally, and test what resonates with the Spirit. The episode closes with practical reflection questions from the book to help listeners evaluate decisions they may be facing—especially when peace seems unclear or external advice conflicts with inner conviction. This episode is an invitation to slow down, listen closely, and trust that the Holy Spirit is actively leading—even when His direction doesn’t make logical senseOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Position of Your Mind Determines the Posture of Your Life (w/ Kristen Hopkins Vincent)

01/14/2026 64 min 9 sec

In this episode, I’m joined by my friend and podcast fave Kristen Hopkins Vincent—and yes, we’re talking about the Vincent part today! Kristen returns with powerful updates on her life (she’s a wife and a mom now!) and on the incredible work happening through Black SEL.We dig into Kristen’s transition from Dangers of the Mind to Black SEL, why culturally-rooted social and emotional learning is essential for Black communities, and what it looks like to build a mission-driven organization with radical obedience to God. Kristen shares moments where obedience didn’t make sense—like moving forward with a major conference during a hurricane—and how God confirmed the vision through provision, research, and undeniable fruit. We also talk about the very real emotions that come up when you’re following God’s timing: shame, guilt, feeling unseen, and learning how to embrace seasons of being hidden. And Kristen’s testimony around marriage and motherhood is such a needed reminder: it’s not too late, and God is always intentional. Before we get into it: Kristen and her husband received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award—and she forgot to mention it in the conversation because that’s what happens when you’re focused on obedience and doing the Lord’s work.In this episode, we cover:What Black SEL is and why it’s necessaryKristen’s transition from Dangers of the Mind to launching a nonprofitThe 5 core competencies of social-emotional learning (and how Black SEL frames them)Why SEL must be culturally affirming to truly serve Black students and communitiesBuilding “God’s way” vs. building in your own mightThe difference between a “me” assignment and a “we” assignmentNavigating shame, guilt, and the pressure to be seenSeasons where God hides you—and why that protection mattersKristen’s hurricane conference testimony and how God made the wayThe research that revealed how little SEL scholarship centers Black communitiesWaiting on God for marriage and motherhood—and what it means to pray for alignment with your assignmentA word for the woman juggling purpose, business, love, and obedience“The position of your mind determines the posture of your life”Connect with Kristen + Support Black SELVisit: BlackSEL.orgDonate + learn more about the mission and programmingGet involved / volunteer (especially if you’re in North Carolina)Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Doing God’s Work God’s Way

01/09/2026 46 min 45 sec

In this bonus episode, we officially pick back up our book club read of The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley after pausing in Q4 due to major life transitions, including starting law school and welcoming a new baby. The goal now is simple: finish the book together and apply it practically as we move into a new year.If you are new to the book club, all previous episodes are linked in the show notes, along with the link to purchase the book. This remains one of my top Christian books of all time and one I believe should be reread regularly, especially at the beginning of the year.Today’s Focus: Chapter 11 — Doing God’s Work God’s WayWhile this episode technically covers Chapters 11 and 12, the primary focus is Chapter 11. Chapter 12 largely reiterates themes already covered earlier in the book regarding the Holy Spirit, so today’s discussion centers on what it truly looks like to build, work, and live by God’s Spirit rather than our own strength. The chapter opens with Zechariah 4:6–7: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”Using the story of Zerubbabel rebuilding the temple, Charles Stanley reminds us that:God knows we will face oppositionGod does not always remove obstaclesGod prepares us insteadSelf-sufficiency is often the greatest oppositionThis scripture is a critical anchor for anyone building a business, pursuing goals, or stepping into God-ordained work.No Separation Between Spiritual and Secular WorkColossians 3:23–24 reminds us that “whatever you do” is service to the Lord. God does not divide life into sacred and secular categories. Your job, business, career, and daily responsibilities are all part of your calling.Even in environments where faith cannot be openly expressed, excellence, humility, integrity, and Spirit-dependence still glorify God. Your work ethic and posture can be a bridge to someone who may never step into a church. Two Ways to Approach God’s WorkDoing God’s work in the flesh looks like:relying on skill, experience, influence, and strategyplanning first and asking God to bless it latermeasuring success by numbers, money, or visibilityoperating in stress, pressure, and controlDoing God’s work by the Spirit looks like:beginning with dependencyhearing from God before planningremaining flexible and surrenderedallowing God to receive the gloryGod’s work done God’s way carries an unmistakable mark. It produces transformation, not just emotional stimulation or surface-level success.Five Indicators You’re Doing God’s Work God’s WayAccording to Charles Stanley, Spirit-led work is marked by:Knowing the work will fail if God does not interveneSeeing God as your only true sourceLooking for evidence of the Spirit’s interventionLiving without chronic stressSpending more time thanking God than asking HimIf these are not currently descriptive of you, that is not condemnation—it is an invitation to course-correct.Final EncouragementThis episode is especially timely for the beginning of the year, when many of us are setting goals and making plans. If you started the year operating in the flesh, now is the time to bring those plans back to God, repent of self-sufficiency, and realign your posture.Write these five indicators down. Keep Zechariah 4:6 somewhere visible. Check yourself often and intentionally choose to do God’s work God’s way.We have two more bonus episodes to finish the book before moving on to our next book club pick.Thank you for listening to another episode of the Blessed + Bossed Up podcast.Previous episodes:https://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/39405540/the-joy-youve-been-missing-starts-with-the-holy-spirithttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/3255ebb2/the-holy-spirit-is-not-an-it-or-a-ghosthttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/20f3c1c7/faith-over-formulahttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/4df616ba/abiding-over-achievinghttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/2213e340/the-faith-factorhttps://www.blessedandbossedup.com/podcast/episode/28425033/keeping-in-step-with-the-spiritOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

His Strategic Timing

12/12/2025 35 min 20 sec

**Disclaimer** We are currently on our annual winter break. This is a replay of an episode that aired earlier in 2025. In this episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, we continue our Bible on Business series by diving into the significance of strategic timing. Tatum unpacks the powerful lessons from Acts 2, examining how the Lord orchestrated the perfect moment for Pentecost and how this applies to our business and leadership journeys. She discusses why waiting on God’s timing is crucial, how to avoid premature leadership, and how divine strategy ensures maximum impact.Through the transformation of Peter, the example of Chick-fil-A’s success, and personal reflections on her own journey, Tatum emphasizes the importance of trusting God's plan. If you’re in a season of waiting or feeling impatient about your business or calling, this episode will encourage and challenge you to surrender to God's divine orchestration.Key Takeaways:God’s Timing Ensures Maximum Impact: Pentecost happened at the exact right moment to maximize the spread of the gospel. Likewise, waiting on God's timing in your business will lead to greater impact. The Right People Will Be in Place When It's Time: God gathers the right audience, customers, and community when the timing aligns with His plan.Strategic Preparation Precedes Breakthrough: Just as Peter had to go through a transformation process, we must embrace personal and professional development while waiting for God’s move.Sudden Breakthroughs Are Often Years in the Making: From Jesus preparing 30 years for a 3-year ministry to Chick-fil-A’s 20-year foundation before expansion, major success takes time and patience.Avoid Premature Leadership & Decision-Making: Acting ahead of God’s plan can lead to consequences. Learning to wait well is key to success in both business and faith.Scriptures Mentioned:Acts 2:1-5 – The divine timing of PentecostLeviticus 23:15-16 – The significance of the Feast of WeeksDeuteronomy 16:16 – The biblical foundation for gathering at PentecostMatthew 16:16-23 – Peter’s faith and spiritual immaturityJohn 18:10-11 – Peter’s rash decision-makingOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

When Obedience Costs You Everything

12/01/2025 53 min 7 sec

In this vulnerable end-of-year episode, Tatum opens up about navigating a year of big transition—welcoming a new baby, starting law school, stewarding family and business, and still choosing to make God the CEO of it all. She shares how 2025 has exposed areas for growth, internal “shoulds,” and noise… but also how her foundation in God has kept her steady.Tatum also announces that the podcast will be on pause for December as she focuses on finals, rest, and seeking God for the next phase of the Bible on Business series—coming back in the new year with more teaching and visual, behind-the-scenes content. Then we dive back into Part 2 of her powerful conversation with Pastor Tiffany Sowah. Tiffany shares the real cost of obedience: relocating in 30 days off fragmented instructions from God, losing a major federal contract, walking through a “manna season” where she and her husband had just enough for each day, and even surrendering her dream car and apartment. She talks honestly about anger, depression, and feeling like she’d “lost everything”—and how God reframed it as giving everything up to follow Him.This episode is for the entrepreneur, leader, or believer who is:Wrestling with hesitation around a big instruction from GodQuestioning if they “heard Him right” because obedience led to hardshipIn a season where it feels like everything is being stripped, not addedWanting to understand what it really means to count the cost and still say “yes”We also share the heart behind the New Year’s Eve Prayer-a-thon, how it was birthed in the middle of Tiffany’s lowest financial season, and why you absolutely want to be in the virtual room this year. The Prayer-a-thon: Heart + InvitationHow the first Prayer-a-thon (Dec 2023) was birthed while Tiffany was working a seasonal job at Ross, living with her parents, and rebuilding from scratchThe purpose of the Prayer-a-thon: to end the year and enter the next one in the only place that sustains us—God’s presenceGrowing from an 8–12 hour broadcast to an 18–20 hour global prayer experience with people joining from all over the worldTestimonies of people who planned to “hop on for a bit” and ended up staying all dayWhy you should come ready to log in “for an hour”… but be prepared to want to stay much longer Register for the Prayer-a-thon: bit.ly/mwgprayerthon💛 Partnership Spotlight: Heifer InternationalHeifer International is a global nonprofit that empowers women farmers like Akanbi Ashiata, who grew up in Lagos and struggled to access fair funding to grow her tomato business. The Cost of Obedience w| Pastor Tiffany Sowah

11/20/2025 52 min 9 sec

In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, Tatum sits down with one of our favorites, Pastor Tiffany Sowah, for a real and raw conversation about what it actually looks like to depend on God in business, ministry, and life. The last time Tiffany was on the show was in 2020. Since then, everything has changed: she’s become Pastor Tiffany, married, relocated twice (from Philly to North Carolina and now living full-time in Ghana), shifted from multi–six-figure consulting to full-time ministry, and has walked through some of the hardest financial and emotional seasons of her life.In Part 1 of this conversation, Tatum and Tiffany talk about the Bible on Business journey, the difference between worldly “Christian-branded” strategies and truly building from the Word, and the uncomfortable reality of learning to really depend on God when everything in you wants to lean on hustle, self-reliance, or what looks “practical” on paper.Tiffany shares how God:Took her from a busy life in Philly as a property owner and multi–six-figure business ownerLed her to North Carolina for a softer, more peaceful lifestyle and deeper feminine identityBegan quietly preparing her heart to slow down in business and ramp up in ministryUsed isolation, relocation, and hidden seasons to cultivate boldness, honesty, and a lifestyle of obedienceThey also talk about:Growing up in church vs. actually forming a personal relationship with GodHow Catalyst Church in Philly became Tiffany’s training ground for intercession, obedience, and spiritual maturityWhy accountability, therapy, and spiritual covering matter so much when you’re hungry for GodThe danger of consuming only digital, “sound bite” faith and how to slow down and discern voices onlineWhy wanting “more” (peace, better quality of life, financial freedom, the ability to be a kingdom financier) isn’t wrong—but must be submitted to GodThis conversation is a masterclass in counting the cost, moving when God says move, and allowing Him to reshape your identity beyond hustle, proximity-based friendships, and public success.Stay tuned for Part 2, where they dig into what happened when Tiffany’s business unraveled, the reality of manna seasons, grief in transitions, and how God used it all to expand her global ministry and birth the Prayerthon.🌍 Register for the End of Year PrayerthonJoin believers from around the world on December 31 for 18+ hours of prayer, teaching, and intercession across six core pillars of life.👉🏾 Register here: bit.ly/mwgprayerthon💛 Partnership Spotlight: Heifer InternationalHeifer International is a global nonprofit that empowers women farmers like Akanbi Ashiata, who grew up in Lagos and struggled to access fair funding to grow her tomato business. Faith Doesn’t Replace Fundamentals

11/14/2025 53 min 44 sec

In this episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, Tatum continues the Bible on Business series with a sobering reminder: faith does not replace fundamentals. Yes, we pray, fast, and follow God’s leading—but we also have to be good stewards who understand the basic building blocks of business. Tatum walks you through what it really means to count the cost (Luke 14:28–30) and breaks down the core fundamentals every God-led entrepreneur needs in place so you’re not just starting things… you’re able to sustain and scale them with integrity.Sponsored by Heifer InternationalSo many women around the world are called by God to build, but lack access to basic financial resources. In Nigeria, 98% of women can’t access formal credit—no capital, no accounts, no way to grow what God has put in their hands. Start With Sobriety

11/01/2025 57 min 33 sec

Episode summary:Today we kick off a new how-to series answering a listener’s question: “I study what you teach, but I still feel stuck.” Tatum lays the foundation—sobriety of mind and spirit—so you can actually apply the Bible to your business. She shares her pruning season (fasting, laying down a growing business, guarding inputs), why entrepreneurship can be intoxicating, and how to detox the influences that dull your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. If you’re not sober-minded, you’ll chase metrics and momentum instead of God’s voice.“With” not “for.” You’re building with God as CEO—His timing, His blueprint, His outcomes.Guard your inputs. Influence creep is subtle: self-help replaces Scripture, “quick wins” replace consecration. Two paths. Mixed mentorship + hurry = wasted time and money; obedience in His timing = preserved energy, precise results, lasting fruit.Kingdom metrics ≠ vanity metrics. Success = pleasing God. From Revelation to Practice

10/24/2025 47 min 44 sec

A listener wrote in after the Bible on Business series saying they’re inspired, but struggle to get the same revelation when reading the Bible on their own—and don’t know how to apply it to business. That honest question surfaced a real gap between hearing and doing, which Tatum will address with a brand-new, step-by-step practical series on building a business with God today (not 2017).Before the series starts next episode, we’re reposting this foundational teaching to set perspective: revelation isn’t just for revenue—it’s for building eternally sound work that will withstand God’s testing. Listen with fresh ears, take notes, and get ready for a practical “how” series starting next.Episode SummaryTatum frames business-building through 1 Corinthians 3:13–15: everything we build will be tried by fire, revealing whether it was constructed on Christ or on straw. She walks through the tension between earthly success and eternal reward, invites honest heart work (contentment, motives, obedience), and gives a practical inspection checklist to evaluate what you’re building—so it lasts.Anchor Scripture1 Corinthians 3:13–15 — God’s fire reveals the quality of our work; only what’s built on Christ endures. Also referenced: 1 Cor. 3:11, 2 Cor. 5:10, Matthew 6:19–20, Galatians 6:9, James 1:12, Mark 10:45, Hebrews 11:6, 2 Timothy 4:8, 1 Peter 5:4, 1 Thessalonians 2:19, Romans 6:23, John 3:16, Revelation 21:4, 1 Corinthians 15:42, 52.Key ThemesPerspective reset: We’re not only building for launches and KPIs—we’re building for Judgment Day.Foundation matters: Only Christ is a durable foundation (1 Cor. 3:11).Eternal rewards: Salvation is by grace; rewards relate to faithfulness and obedience.Heart inspection: Contentment, motives, service, perseverance, and faith over sight. From revelation to practice: The upcoming series will translate Scripture → systems, decisions, and daily leadership.Checklist (from the episode)Ask and answer honestly—by your actions, not lip service:Foundation: Is this truly built on Jesus—or on trends, ambition, and metrics?Faithfulness & Obedience: Are your policies, leadership, and operations aligned with Scripture (not just intuition)?Service vs. Sales: Are you serving the people you’re called to, or merely selling? (Mark 10:45)Fruit: Do your processes reflect God’s character (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control)?Perseverance: Do you endure God-assignments when it’s hard, or quit? (Gal. 6:9; James 1:12)Faith in Practice: Do you operate by faith, not sight—especially when results lag? (Heb. 11:6; 2 Cor. 5:7)Reflection PromptsIf God’s plan looked nothing like your vision board, would you still follow Him?Where is contentment still being formed in you?Which part of your business would burn under testing—and why? What one policy or practice can you realign to Scripture this week? Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

She also hints at bringing back past guests whose lives and testimonies have evolved since their first appearance.[3:02] Question 1: Why Does It Feel Like Everyone Else Is Getting Blessed But Me?A listener in her 30s shares feelings of discouragement watching others get married, have children, and advance in their careers while she continues to wait on God.Scripture Focus: Philippians 4:10–13 (NLT)“I have learned how to be content with whatever I have… for I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”Highlights:[4:26] Paul’s contentment wasn’t rooted in circumstances, but in Christ.[6:02] The enemy often exploits waiting seasons to sow doubt and comparison.[7:29] Protect your vulnerabilities — unfollow triggers, set digital boundaries.[9:18] Learn to desire the Giver more than the gift.[10:11] Tatum shares how she met her husband in God’s timing, not her own.[13:18] Create “safeguards of contentment” through prayer, scripture, and boundaries.Key Takeaway:True peace in waiting comes when your fulfillment is anchored in God’s presence, not His performance.[15:23] Question 2: How Do I Set Boundaries as a Mom Starting a Business?A listener asks for guidance on balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship without losing focus on God’s purpose.Highlights:[16:30] The first boundary to establish is with yourself.[17:05] Balance is a myth — pursue harmony through alignment with God.[18:30] Tatum’s 3 personal boundaries:Stay connected to the Vine (John 15).Keep priorities in divine order.Do every assignment with excellence.[21:07] Boundaries are about stewardship, not restriction.Spiritual Insight:“Your ambition should never come at the expense of your assignment at home.”[22:22] Bonus Segment: God-Led Business StrategyTatum shifts into strategist mode, walking listeners through how to build a business from the ground up with divine order and practicality.Highlights:[23:28] Start with a clear business plan — use SBA.gov templates.[24:31] Validate your idea before marketing it.[25:47] Businesses fail when they don’t solve real problems.[26:30] Marketing is a byproduct of strategy, not the starting point.Takeaway:Build from the blueprint God gives you — not the algorithm’s trends.[27:00] Question 3: How Did You Stay Focused When People Doubted You?A listener who recently quit her 9–5 asks how to stay steadfast when others question her calling.Highlights:[28:01] Tatum recalls the doubtful reactions when she left her job to start Anchored Media.[28:48] How she turned fear into fuel by focusing on work, not validation.[29:58] The importance of a supportive community of faith-driven entrepreneurs.[31:09] Stay quiet about your progress — let the fruit speak.Key Takeaway:“When God gives you the vision, He’ll also give you the proof — but you have to build first.”[32:32] Question 4: Preparing for Motherhood as a Married EntrepreneurA listener asks how to spiritually and practically prepare for motherhood while running a business.Highlights:[33:48] Create a relationship bucket list — enjoy your marriage before kids.[36:02] Build rhythms of connection (weekly date nights, intentional check-ins).[36:41] Individual and joint therapy before kids is an act of preparation, not repair.[38:07] Men need emotional support too — they carry provision pressure.[39:29] Protect your marriage from being consumed by parenthood.[40:46] Create a “Happy List” for postpartum joy and mental health support.[42:59] Audit your business:Increase passive income streamsAutomate workflowsCut unnecessary costs[45:37] Make your business lean for freedom — not pressure.Key Takeaway:“Motherhood should multiply your grace, not your chaos. Your Reminder to be Bold

09/19/2025 43 min 23 sec

In this week’s episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, we’re continuing our Bible on Business series by unpacking the power of holy boldness through the lens of Acts 4:13–22. As Christian entrepreneurs, we are called to do more than just add scripture to our captions—we are called to build businesses that reflect the character of Christ and disrupt worldly systems with Kingdom values. This episode digs deep into what it truly means to be bold, not in a self-glorifying or performative way, but with a courage that is empowered by the Holy Spirit. We define boldness biblically, exploring its Greek root (parrēsia) and how it shows up in the lives of Peter and John as they stand before the Sanhedrin with confidence and conviction.Tatum also brings in Numbers 30 to confront how many of us mask passiveness as patience or humility when it is actually disobedience. You’ll walk away from this episode with the clarity to recognize whether your hesitation is humility or hidden fear, and the spiritual tools to begin choosing obedience over comfort.Other key takeaways:The biblical definition of boldness and how to cultivate itThe difference between boldness, pride, and egoWhat happens when we confuse self-glorification with Spirit-led courageWhy passiveness is not humility—and how to confront it in yourselfExamples of modern-day Kingdom businesses that disrupt worldly systemsThe connection between time with Jesus and confidence in your callingHow boldness helps you become a witness, not just an entrepreneurThis is a must-listen episode for anyone who is tired of playing it safe and ready to boldly obey what God has already told them to do.Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Keeping in Step with the Spirit

09/08/2025 47 min 17 sec

We pick the book club back up with Part II (“Looking Within”) of The Spirit-Filled Life by Dr. Charles Stanley. Tatum recaps the biblical foundation of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling (for all believers at salvation) versus His influencing (our moment-by-moment leading). Building on the recent Internal Harmony series, she explains that walking by the Spirit is not distant, rule-based “directions,” but a close, personal leading—a lifestyle of sensitivity, dependence, and cooperation. You’ll learn why the Spirit’s primary goal is to form Christ-likeness, how to fight the “battle before the battle” in your mind, and why Scripture is the Holy Spirit’s weapon of choice (the sword of the Spirit) for dismantling lies, speculations, and flesh-driven desires. Tatum shares practical examples from entrepreneurship and life, showing how obedience positions us to avoid unnecessary suffering and walk into God’s wise, timely provision. Addicted to Control

In this final episode of the Internal Harmony Series, we’re tackling the “big C word” — control. Control isn’t just a personality trait; it’s a spiritual stronghold that keeps us bound, quenches the Spirit, and robs us of God’s peace. In this episode, I share a recent testimony about what happened when I surrendered control, unpack why the Bible calls us to release it, and walk through case studies of the Rich Young Ruler and Paul to show the difference between clinging to control and living surrendered. You’ll learn:Why control is a stronghold and how it quenches the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)How control shows up as a cognitive distortionThe root issue of trust and how to rebuild itA practical Weekly Surrender Challenge to live this outThis episode will equip you to exchange control for surrender and experience the internal harmony God desires for you.Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We don't supress, we submit

08/21/2025 49 min 30 sec

In this powerful conclusion to the Internal Harmony Series, Tatum shares what it's looked like to live in true peace while managing law school, motherhood, business, and ministry. Through personal testimony and Spirit-led insight, she unpacks the third psychological barrier to inner peace: emotional suppression.Tatum explains how suppression—pushing down emotions like sadness, joy, fear, or anger—creates distance between us and the Holy Spirit, damages our bodies, and leads to emotional isolation. Drawing from biblical truth, she highlights how Jesus and David modeled emotional embodiment, reminding listeners that emotional honesty is not weakness—it’s worship. This episode is a call to stop striving and start surrendering. You’ll walk away with biblical study tools, a mantra (“We don’t suppress, we submit”), and simple, life-changing practices that foster rhythm, not routine. How Disembodiment Is Keeping You Dysregulated (and Out of Alignment)

08/09/2025 38 min 10 sec

In this week’s episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, we continue our Internal Harmony Series with Part 2 — unpacking the psychological factor of disembodiment. This is when we operate from our heads while ignoring our body’s signals, emotions, and even the Holy Spirit’s nudges. It’s been one of my biggest personal battles, and I’m sharing both biblical truth and practical tools to help you recognize and overcome it.You’ll learn:Key TakeawaysWhy harmony is more sustainable than balance in life and businessThe difference between external harmony (systems, productivity) and internal harmony (peace, alignment, presence)How disembodiment looks in daily life: ignoring hunger, pushing through pain, numbing emotions, and being physically present but mentally absentHow it shows up in business: over-functioning, leading from performance instead of presence, disconnected identity, and neglecting Spirit-led decision makingRoot causes backed by research — including trauma, perfectionism, performance-based childhoods, church culture, and over-reliance on logicGenerational breakdown of how Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z experience disembodiment differentlyWhat the Bible shows us about embodiment through the life of Jesus: feeling emotions (John 11:35), resting even in storms (Mark 4:38), and being present enough to sense spiritual exchange (Luke 8:45–46) Practical Steps to Reconnect:Address the root cause — through therapy, prayer, fasting, and surrender to GodBody scans — regularly pause to check in with how you feel physically and emotionallySchedule pauses & stillness — add intentional breaks to slow down and be presentInvolve your support system — ask heart questions, not just head questions, and invite accountabilityReplace old habits — build patterns that align with your identity in Christ instead of survival modeIf you’ve ever felt productive on the outside but disconnected on the inside, this episode will help you:-Recognize the signs of disembodiment- Identify your personal root causes-Begin practical and spiritual steps toward true embodiment that honors God, fosters peace, and strengthens your leadership in life and businessOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Bobbie: https://www.hibobbie.com* Check out IXL and use my code TODAY for a great deal: https://www.ixl.com* Check out Marley Spoon: https://marleyspoon.com/offer/BLESSED* Check out NerdWallet: https://nerdwallet.com/blessed* Check out Trust & Will and use my code trustandwill.com /BLESSED for a great deal: https://trustandwill.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/blessed-bossed-up7264/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Faith Factor

07/30/2025 32 min 34 sec

In this powerful episode of Blessed and Bossed Up, we continue our Book Club series on The Spirit-Filled Life by Charles Stanley, diving into Part 2: Looking Within. Tatum unpacks Chapter 6, "The Faith Factor," where the focus shifts from understanding the Holy Spirit to practically living a Spirit-filled life. Drawing from her own transitional season—navigating motherhood and preparing for law school—Tatum shares how she’s applying this book’s wisdom in real-time.This episode explores the difference between reacting and responding, how to stop intellectualizing your faith, and why focus is the bridge between anxiety and peace. Tatum breaks down three biblical truths that can become daily affirmations rooted in scripture:The Holy Spirit indwells you,He is the life of Christ in you,He is willing and able to produce Christ's character through you.She encourages listeners to shift their focus from self-help affirmations to Holy Spirit-led declarations and offers strategies like building God's track record, preemptive morning declarations, and journaling answered prayers. Using the story of David and Goliath, she outlines how to activate faith before willpower, reminding us that walking in the Spirit is about surrender, focus, and confidence in God's promises.Whether you're facing daily stressors, emotional overwhelm, or spiritual stagnation, this episode gives you the tools to live a Spirit-filled life—not just on Sundays, but every single day.Prayer to Start Your Day in Victory:Lord, I claim the victory right now over the giant of [insert your giant here]. I recognize that this giant is coming up against the Christ in me. Just as you defeated this giant when you walked on this earth, you can defeat it through me now—for you are my life. I trust you to produce peace and self-control through me. I cannot handle what is to come, but you can. Respond through me. When the pressure comes, remind me that the battle is yours. How Cognitive Overload Blocks Your Spiritual Sensitivity

07/24/2025 38 min 56 sec

In this powerful kickoff to the Internal Harmony Series, Tatum invites high-achieving Christian women into a much-needed conversation about the hidden chaos beneath our productivity: cognitive overload. As a mom of three, business owner, and soon-to-be law student, Tatum shares vulnerably about the transition she's navigating and how God is leading her into a new understanding of internal harmony over external balance. This episode breaks down the psychological and spiritual toll of cognitive overload—what happens when our prefrontal cortex is overstimulated, and we lose our ability to hear the voice of God clearly, regulate our emotions, or even recognize how we feel.Tatum introduces the concept of internal vs. external harmony, showing that while routines and logistics matter, true peace comes from spiritual alignment, emotional presence, and abiding in Christ. She offers biblically-rooted, science-backed tools to help you slow down, re-engage your senses, and practice stillness so you can reconnect with God and yourself.Whether you're a woman juggling multiple roles or simply longing for more peace and clarity, this episode offers a holistic path forward. Expect to walk away with practical steps—like mindful breathing, meditating on scripture, nature walks, grounding exercises, sleep routines, journaling prompts, and fasting from information overload—to combat mental fatigue and restore harmony from the inside out.Plus, Tatum opens up about meditating on Galatians 2:20 and why high-performing women often turn to productivity over presence. Contextualize Without Compromise

07/12/2025 36 min 33 sec

In this powerful episode of Blessed + Bossed Up, Tatum dives deep into Acts 17:22–31 and pulls out two key strategies every Kingdom entrepreneur needs: cultural intelligence (CQ) and contextualizing your message.Using Paul’s sermon to the intellectual elite in Athens as the foundation, this episode breaks down how Paul studied the culture, respected his audience, and delivered the Gospel in a way that resonated deeply—all without compromising the truth.Tatum explains how these same strategies apply to business today, from adjusting your brand messaging based on audience psychographics to adapting your offers and content for different platforms or markets. She also shares practical examples (from YouVersion to McDonald’s global menus) and offers 3 concrete ways to start applying these principles in your own brand—whether you’re already in business or preparing to launch. If you’re a faith-led entrepreneur looking to improve your marketing, messaging, or audience engagement while staying true to the Word, this episode is your blueprint.📖 Scripture:Acts 17:22–31 (NLT) Paul contextualizes the gospel for the Athenians at the Areopagus, modeling how to reach new audiences with truth and strategy.Key Takeaways:Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is the ability to understand the values, behaviors, and worldview of the people you're called to serve.Contextualization is delivering your message in a way that’s relevant, understandable, and compelling—without changing the truth.Paul didn’t compromise; he customized the way he shared truth to meet people where they were.Business owners must do the same with their brand messaging, sales strategies, and offers. 3 Ways to Apply This in Your Business:Use Your Audience’s Language – Mirror the words your audience uses to describe their problems and desires.Tailor Messaging for Each Platform – Adapt your content for Instagram vs. TikTok vs. LinkedIn vs. YouTube.Adapt Your Offers for Specific Audiences – Adjust your product packaging, pricing, or delivery to match the needs of different segments within your niche.
