Catch You Outdoors #161 Talking Fishing
This weeks title may be a bit misleading. What it really says is that a lot more talking about fishing is happening, instead of actually wetting a line. A good friend of mine from Fort Myers came down to the Keys for a visit and some fishing. Salty Cracker, aka Mark Starnes, used to join me often as a co-host on my radio show, so I thought it would be fun to have him join me on a podcast. Take a listen. Just like old times.

Catch You Outdoors Episode #128
This weeks episode includes some changes. Gone are the titles, and the coverage is now exclusively the Florida Keys. I'll cover fishing, dining, sightseeing and a rundown of events that make the Florida Keys special.

Marching Toward Spring
I am so ready for springtime and I'm betting my listeners are too! Not much fishing this week, but there is a report. Also covered the CCA Banquet and Auction and the Gigantic Nautical Market, both held last week in Islamorada.

Fishing Is Hard!
Yes, fishing can be tough, but I'd have to say it's worth the time spent in perfecting the sport. This title came from a talk I had with someone that was having a very difficult time learning to fish. So here are some of the tips I suggested.

Winter, Winter, Go Away
Yes, even down here in the Florida Keys I have reached the point where enough is enough. Go away winter and take your cloudy days, winds, and unusually low temperatures with you. Bring on the sunshine!

Cooking Your Catch
Yes indeed, this episode is all about cooking that fresh catch from the sea, whether you caught it, or perhaps bought it. Either way, there's nothing better than fresh seafood for dinner.

Another Week In The Keys
It was a busy week with trips to Key West and Islamorada, but not for fishing! Maybe next time. A concert instead, and a fishing seminar. Now its time to kick back and relax on island time.

Keys Cold Snap
Yes, cold fronts occasionally make their way to the Keys. We are forced to remove our flip-flops, put on layers of mismatched clothing and hunker down. Good thing it only last a day or two and it's right back to 80 degrees.

Watching Fishing
What do you do when you can't go fishing? You watch fishing. Yep, fishing shows.

Talk About Fishing
The title reflects what most anglers do when they can't go fishing, they talk about it. So here ya go, some fishing talk. However, there's a slight twist to this, so tune in.

Happy New Fishing Year
2024 has arrived and I'm wishing all of you many more fishing days than those done in 2023. This podcast has tips for winter fishing here in the Keys, and there's also a special surprise at the end of the podcast for the former listeners of my old ESPN radio show. Enjoy!

All Things Must Pass
2023 is moving on to 2024. It's been a pretty good year, but I'm looking forward to moving on to bigger and better things. Tune in and listen to my "sort of" resolutions.

Tis The Season -- Again
The holidays are upon us and a lot of folks are headed to the Keys. We've had some pretty awful weather this past week, so the question was asked, "What do we do when we can't go fishing?" I'll tell ya. And don't worry. Nasty weather doesn't last too long down this way.

Christmas Fishing in the Keys
Winter is here and the fishing is great in the Florida Keys. We are the lucky ones. When the temperatures begin to drop the fish down this way get active. Sailfish in the Atlantic, Spanish mackerel in the Gulf of Mexico and redfish in the backcountry. Take your pick and we'll see you on the water.

Life's Been Good
Life has been very good and also interesting. I'm always wondering what's around the bend. Thanks much for listening!

Way in the Way Back
Sometimes the best place to find fish in the Florida Keys is to take a boat trip into the far reaches of upper Florida Bay. What I call, way in the way back.

No Name Storm #3
Historically, only 2 previous "no name storms" are recognized by the National Weather Service. Well, we just experienced number 3 down here in Key Largo. It was quite the storm. 19.6 inches of rain in 24 hours and wind gust just off the coast were measured at 86 mph. After a couple of days of cleanup, everything seems to be back to normal and hurricane season ends on November 30th. Thank goodness.

Fishing Line
Want to know more about fishing line and why monofilament and braided lines are both good to use. Then tune in and listen.

Paradise Found
It's nice living in paradise. It has it ups and downs for some, but mostly ups for those of us living on a rock. This is an information filled episode and there's a bit of a surprise at the end. Thanks for listening!

More Random Thoughts
Yes indeed. The show notepad was full of bits and pieces, so it's time to get them all in one podcast. Thanks again for listening.

Location, Location, Location
A successful fishing trip is mostly about being in the right place at the right time. There are also many other parts to this equation and that's what this episode is about.

The Good Old Days
The good old days are usually thought of as times of the past. The days of growing up with glass instead of plastic. With milk delivered to your doorstep, and drinking water out of the hose. But my take is a bit different and that's what this week's podcast is about.

A Week of Fishing
This weeks podcast is almost all fishing. From new rules handed down by the FWC, recent fishing reports, both inshore and offshore, and a new lure I'm pretty excited to try.

Bridge Fishing in the Keys
When you don't have a boat or access to the water from shore, give bridge fishing a try here in the Florida Keys. There are lots of great places to wet a line and you never know what you might catch.

Another Season
Yes indeed. Season three of Catch You Outdoors is off and running! This episode is a highlight reel of the past two years along with some future plans for year three. Thanks to everyone for listening over the past two years!

End Of Season
The title is twofold. This is the last episode of season 2 on Catch You Outdoors. Season 3 begins next week. It's also a reference to the quiet time here in the Keys and other Florida locations with the end of summer. Locals get a breather.

Seventeen Hundred Islands
The title came about after reading an article that said the Florida Keys are made up of 1700 islands. I kind of doubted that, but then found evidence that that's actually a pretty good number. In this podcast are also some observations of why people come to the Keys, continue to come, and sometimes don't go home. We many soon need 1700 islands to hold them all.

Jimmy Buffett
Jimmy Buffett's passing hit me kind of hard. I've been a long time fan. Yep, since 1973. This podcast is a bit of reminiscing about his music and the amazing sendoff he was given in Key West on Sunday September 3rd.

Weather in the Keys
This one is a bit shorter than most, but what I have to say about the weather down here in the Keys can be said like this... It's nice.

Fishing & Boats
More in-depth fishing tips for the Florida Keys and some preventative care tips for boats. Also... why is a Jamaica Dogwood tree called a dogwood?

Another Week In Paradise
Key West, Part 2. Yes, we returned with more adventures and advice for visitors. Also fishing tips for the summer heat in the Florida Keys.

Quiet Time Has Arrived
August is upon us and the tourist are mostly headed home. It's time for the kids to go back to school. Also included this week is a rundown of all the fun I had touring my vacationing daughter and granddaughter around the Keys, both on land and on water. And finally, a mini rant about personal water craft.

Florida Keys Observations
I moved to Key Largo one year ago in August and I thought I'd pass along some of my observations about what it's like to live here, instead of just visiting.

Fishing Vacations, Florida Keys Style
Summer vacations are going by fast, and I know that many parents are looking for things to do to keep the kiddies busy. What could be better than a fishing vacation for the family down this way, in the Florida Keys? Here's some ideas and suggestions for making the most of your visit.

How to Survive the Heat
Yes, it's hot outside. Of course it is. It's JULY! Tune in for ways to beat the heat, some fishing reports, and things to do in the Florida Keys. No one wants to stay inside.

Mix Mash of Thoughts
There's a lot of news happening down in the Keys. A bit of fishing, underwater music, lifejackets, spiny lobster mini-season, and much more. Thanks for listening!

A Guides Life
When fishing guides get together there's a lot of talk about past trips, fishing tips and how they survived out there on the water. It's a tough life and a good life, all at the same time.

All Around the Florida Keys
Continuing my slight format change to multi subject vs. one major on each podcast. This one does have a spotlight on books, some about fishing and some about the outdoors. I've also included fishing reports, happenings, and tide and moon phases.

Florida Hideouts
Have you ever wanted to just get away from all the noise and problems that seem to pile up each week. I've made a list of the small hideaways where you can stay and do just that. Also some news about formatting of future podcast. There's more time to play, so I'm going there.

Do Your Part - Don't Be Trashy
When I'm on the water, or on the beach, I always seem to see someone else's tossed trash. I honestly don't know why there are so many folks that can't seem to take trash home with them and dispose of it properly. This podcast is about respecting the outdoors and specifically doing your part to help to keep Florida's land and water clean. Yeah, I have to get on the soapbox every now and then.

Movies Filmed in the Florida Keys
After watching a war movie on Turner Classic Movies over the Memorial Day weekend, I was surprised to find out it was filmed, almost entirely, in the Florida Keys. So, I searched for others and that led to this podcast. Hope you enjoy listening.

One backcountry near Flamingo and another offshore of Key Largo. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What's Around You
Observation is what I believe is the number one thing needed to catch fish on a regular basis. Not the latest tackle nor the latest gear. Thought I'd reintroduce myself to new listeners now that I've joined Waypoint. There's talk about my early days fishing, writing, radio and how I became a 'beach boy.' Also didn't want to leave my regular listeners without a tip or two about fishing, so covered rods and reels. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Epic Florida Keys Fishing
I tend to use the word amazing when describing an outstanding day of fishing. Epic is almost never uttered. But I had to use it for this episode. I've had some amazing days on the water, but this one was epic. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

So You Want To Be a Fishing Guide

Fishing Wisdom
Fishing is a science. It's also lucky. Nope, not true. Like anything else, fishing takes practice, but there's also a little inner voice that talks to me on the water and tells me where I should be to catch fish. I call it a "notion", but it's really experience and time on the water. Here are some tips to hopefully help you with getting a notion. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Gone Sailing
I learned to sail at a young age, long before I piloted my first power boat. Do you have a youngster in your life that needs to get out of the house? Might want to look into sailing clubs all around Florida that teach sailing. It worked for me! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Accidental Sheller
Shelling is huge in Southwest Florida. As a matter of fact, Sanibel Island is the number 2 destination for serious shell seekers. I'm what I like to call an accidental sheller. I love to walk beaches and I love to fish along beaches. While doing both of those activities I tend to pick up shells. Only the pretty ones. Thus I'm and accidental sheller. Fishing Stuff
The title says it all! A recent visit to a fishing tackle store was eye opening. There's lots of new fishing stuff out there! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Random Thoughts Part 2
The title says it all. I sometimes have several random ideas and really can't decide what one to grab ahold of and run with it. Mostly because there's not quite enough to cover 30 minutes or more. So, this one has some current events, Scottish Highland games, and air fryers. Go figure. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Short Stories
I love a good story. Written or spoken, it doesn't matter. I also love to tell stories, mostly true. Let's Talk Fishing
Kind of like the two Fishing Hodgepodge episodes, only different. This time the subject is much broader without going into too much detail. You know, none of the lure sizes and weights. I do slip a bit in one part, but hope you enjoy my New Year's Resolution. Note, resolution is not plural. Thanks for listening! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Adventures In The Woods

The In-Between Week - Catch You Outdoors
The week between Christmas and New Years Day is often a break for most, and back to work for some. I find it a time to just ponder on the past year and hope for better in the next. That is most certainly my feelings for 2022. It MUST be better. This episode has more random thoughts and a new addition - story telling. I was asked by quite a few listeners to include a story each week, outdoorsy in nature. So hand in there until the end. Happy New Year! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Random Thoughts from Catch You Outdoors
With a great deal of introspection ( I love that word ) I've made a change in the format of my podcast. It will still be about the great outdoors, but instead of sticking to one subject per episode, I've decided to make it multi. This is what happens when you spend time in a beach chair thinking about what's been and what will be. Hope you enjoy and all feedback is much appreciated. Thanks for listening! Capt. Rob Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Public Service Announcements - Sort of Catch You Outdoors
This idea came about because I used to be a radio announcer. Stations are required to make public service announcements, yet podcast don't really have to go there. But I am, sort of. I've put together a few things that I think most all outdoor folks, especially anglers, boaters and beachgoers, ought to know. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Christmas Gifts for Outdoorsy Folks
The gift giving season is upon us, so I thought I'd throw some ideas out, sooner than later. This seems to be the year to shop early, due to supply and possible shipping slowdowns. Hope this helps listeners find something for that special person who would rather be outside instead of inside. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Fishing Movies, well... Sort Of
While watching A River Runs Through It for the umpteenth time, I thought it might be interesting to investigate films that have somewhat of a theme of fishing. Some have quite a bit, and some are limited, but all are watchable. Here's a my take on some of the more popular movies with a little or a lot of fishing included in the plot. Fishing Hodgepodge 2
By special request, from quite a few listeners, Fishing Hodgepodge is back and will become a regular feature on Catch You Outdoors. It should appear about every 3rd or 4th episode. Not really a problem for me. I love talking about fishing! This one is about the changes brought about by the impending cold fronts of winter and how they affect fishing on the west coast and east coast of Florida. I've also added my observations of how those same fronts affect the Florida Keys. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Florida Roadside Attractions - Catch You Outdoors
As a kid growing up in Florida it wasn't always fishing and beaching. We also spent a good amount of time visiting what were then known as roadside attractions. Before the Interstate Highway system was established travelers use state roads, and on those roads entrepreneurs came up with some very interesting places to stop and visit. A good many are still there. Might be time to take a road trip! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
