Spaghettaboutit // #112
Hey you....spaghettaboutit! This week the gang sits down and spaghetts some craft beers (among other things) to see who brought the best non traditional spaghett! What is a spaghett you ask? Traditionally you take a High Life bottle, take a swig out of it and then drop a half a shot to a full shot of Campari into it. It's a nice little refreshing drink with the added bitterness and citrus from the Campari. We found out over last year that other things tasted great spaghetted as well so we decided to explore it on the show! Esoteric Brewing at Jungle Jim’s Pint Night // #110
This week Shift Beers cosplays as Cincy Brewcast as we take the show on the road to the Esoteric Brewing pint night at Jungle Jim's International Market in Fairfield. This show was shorter than normal, extremely chaotic, but amazingly fun. (We really need to use headphones next time so we can hear ourselves and not talk over each other) We chat with Brian Jackson CEO/Co-Founder/Head Brewer and our friend Anique Thomas Assistant Brewer at Esoteric Brewing. We ask them to pick their favorite Esoteric beer, get Brian's craft beer origin story and talk about whether a lunch/dinner meal is dunch or linner. We sincerely hope you enjoy the chaos that is episode 110! No Bender November // #105
It's been a while! We know. Life at the place we don't work at and our lives in general have been very busy, but we're happy to be back in the saddle! We as a team have been participating in what we have dubbed "no bender November" where we may drink here and there still, but we're making a conscious effort to either not drink or drink very little. So often people in the industry can find themselves drinking often and while it's good in moderation sometimes we all just need a little break. So this show we talk about what we've been up to, try some NA beers, and even have a few bonus beers at the end. Always remember if you ever need to talk to someone about a drinking problem or just need someone to talk to in general we're always here for you. Reach out. Gas Station Singles Bring Your Own Adjuncts // #100
We celebrated another milestone in the best way we know how. We drank garbage and made it worse by adding more garbage to it. If you've never listened to a Gas Station Single show before we grab the weirdest large format cans we can find at local gas stations to try, but this time we brought our own adjuncts to add to it. Beth kindly upped the ante and suggested the adjuncts had to come fromt the gas station as well so here we are. Buckle up boys and girls, because we are going on an adventure. One of us threw up after this episode. Can you guess who? Here's what we drank (not mentioning adjuncts so it can be a surprise): Oktoberfest Märzen by Paulaner Brauerei (Shift Beer) Oktoberfest Lager by Tröegs Independent Brewing (Shift Beer) Chelada Piña Picante by Grupo Modelo Sour Cherry by MXD Drinks Co Spiked: Passionfruit Lime & Salt by Seagram's Escapes Corona Refresca Más Mango Citrus by Grupo Modelo Head In the Clouds Blue Raspberry Candy Ale by Fifty West Brewing Company High Life by Miller Brewing Company Deth By Raspberries by Revolution Brewing Company Find us online at: https://shiftbee.rs https://www.patreon.com/shiftbeers https://instagram.com/shiftbeers https://twitter.com/shiftbeers https://facebook.com/shiftbeerspodcast Call the Drunk Line and leave us a message: (804) 445-2337 that's (804) HI-5-BEER

BCs Send Off and Spaghetts // #94
This one is an interesting one. We start off with Bryan and Josh joined by Ben from BC's Bottle Lodge Montgomery to send off the space as they are now sadly closed. We did some D'jadrinkin', continued some of our seasonal creep discussion and talked Oktoberfest for a bit. At the end of the show there is a special add on piece with Chris and Josh live drinking spaghetts at a local bar. We all know you can't go wrong with spaghetts! It's kinda hard to do beers on the show because we were mostly drinking different things, but for the sake of just talking about it we had some Lunch from Maine Brewing Co and Oktoberfest by West Side Brewing at BCs. Josh was drinking a Rhinegeist Mosaic Spaghett and Chris was drinking a Breckenridge Avalanche with Kahlua since we drank all the Campari....we don't know what to call it when we add Kahlua in beer, but we're open to ideas! This week our good friend Mitch joined us once again for a cider show! It was great trying some new ciders while catching up with him and his new gig at a local record label. Nowadays so many breweries are putting crazy things into beer. Instead of rolling the dice to see what is available out there why not take fate into your own hands. We brought some pretty normal beers and stuffed them full of some pretty dumb (but sometimes amazing) things. Thank you to our dear friend Jula for the idea for this show. Beers For Breakfast // # 73
This week we decided to be lazy with our show topic (what else is new?) We made Beth pick out a beer at BCs Bottle Lodge and we based the entire show off of that one beer. What did she pick? This episode we dive into a beer that we in Cincinnati love oh so much and it only comes out once a year for a very short time. We're talking about Bock beer! Nice! // #69
Noice! We made it to episode 69 and because we're children we decided to do sexy or inappropriate beer names this week! Luckily it seems the industry has been backing off some less than stellar beer names, but there are some still floating around out there. This one is full of laughs, innuendos and just plain awesomeness. You know what else it's full of? Other podcasters! We didn't have a guest this week but we almost broke Josh's phone by dialing in the Truth Beer and Podsequences Podcast. The Gnarly Gnome from Cincy Brewcast, Bret from the Neubert Report our friends up north, Caroline from Craft Parenting Podcast AND Bryan from our very own podcast who was home not feeling well. We Had Beers With Danny // #67
In this episode we sit down with the one and only Danny Herold who definitely doesn't work at Sonder Brewing here in Cincinnati, Ohio. The topic of the show was crispy boys and we made a little game out of it. We all brought a craft and a macro lager, pilsner or other crispy beer to try. We hid our cans as we poured the beers out and we all had a fun time trying to guess what we all brought! In addition to the main beers Danny was awesome enough to bring some bonus Sonder beers backed up by some good ole fashioned bonus beers from all. RTC: Ready to Chug // #66
We're back with another RTD show. What is an RTD you ask? RTD stands for ready to drink and in our case we're drinking cocktails....except we're chugging them so they're technically RTCs. Why? Because if they didn't want us to chug them they wouldn't put them in a can. If you didn't already guess Beth wasn't on the show this week to stop us so we had no adult supervision. Cory’s Mom Has Got It Going On // #65
You may have remembered Beth's crazy beer fest story from early on in the podcast of her and her mother-in-law having WAY too good of a time. Well, we had the amazing opportunity to bring the one and only Gail, Cory's Mom, onto the show. We focused on barrel aged beers, but dipped in and out of bonus beers throughout the episode while we professed our love for her son multiple times. This is a great show with a lot of awesome beers and even more awesome people. Cory....we're sorry in advance
You Know What Grinds Our Gears? // #64
Instead of doing some boring old new year's resolution show we wanted to spice it up a bit. We all came with things we wanted to see more of (or new things we wanted to see) in the craft brewing and beverage world. And some things that kind of grinds our gears that we want to see go away in 2022. Like many shows we started off strong and then got side tracked talking about Batman. Episode 62: We Have No Idea What We‘re Doing
This episode we start out with some lovely hard coffees donated to the cause by the one and only Julia from Truth, Beer and Podsequences. We quickly find out and are saddened by the fact that hard coffees in-fact don't have caffeine in them. Not gonna lie we needed a little pick me up this episode. It's the end of the year and we're more busy than ever in the brewing and service industry. Please bear with us this holiday season as sometimes things are gonna be a little rocky! As always we ended the show with some banging bonus beers!
Episode 61: You Put What....In Beer?
This week on Shift Beers we drink some beers with weird adjuncts or strange combos of flavors. Sometimes breweries just go a little too far. Sometimes it works out, other times, not so much. For part of the show our West Side friend Kevin, who runs the production side of the place we don't work at, joins us to lend us his opinion on some of the crazy beers we tried.
Episode 60: Don‘t Drink and Sleigh
You might want to get jolly this holiday season and pound a bunch of beers before spreading joy to the masses, but take Santa's word for it. Don't drink and sleigh! This show we sit down and drink some holiday beers with a healthy portion of bonus beers on the back end of the episode! We hope you all have an amazing holiday season!
Episode 59: Ho Ho Ho It‘s Another Seltzer Show!
We said we'd never do another seltzer show, but here we are. Bud Light made an eggnog seltzer and we just had to chug it. Damn you Bud Light....damn you. While we're at it we chug all of the holiday offerings from Truly as well. Sadly, those are the only two holiday seltzer packs we could find. Probably a good idea, otherwise we might have exploded from all of the CO2 in our bodies by the end of the episode. PS Sorry for the burps. PPS Not really.
Episode 58: Stout Szn
The air is getting cold and you know that means! It's Stout Season bitches! On this episode we are joined by a new person from the place we don't work at! Bhumin Desai is our culinary director and has worked at some heavy hitters around the Cincinnati area. While he's not as huge of a beer nerd as we were it was a blast having him on the show to chat about stouts! He will be returning because Josh fucked up and accidentally didn't resume recording after one of our breaks. Hey, shit happens, we drank a bunch of stouts so we had beers.
Episode 57: Over/Under Game
This show we combine two of our favorite past episodes! We took Untappd Golf and Untappd Arcade and slapped them together for a game we like to call Over/Under. We each brought two beers, one that we thought was a low scoring beer and one that we thought was a high scoring beer. We taste them, guess the ratings and added a fancy points system to see who won. Who cares about all the technicalities. We're just here to drink beer, and boy did we. Tune in for a great time drinking with friends as always!
Episode 56: Cincy Staples, Banger in a Box Finale and Driving RVs to Breweries
In this episode the gang explores Cincinnati staple beers! Of course we couldn't try them all, but we had a few. If you're out there and are listening in another part of the country let us know what your staples are! Maybe we could set up a trade! We also have our grand champion of Banger in a Box, tune in to see who took home the rest of the Smirnoff six pack as a prize. And of course the rest of the show is filled with a lot of insane shenanigans.
Episode 55: Beers From Breweries We‘ve Never Tried And Much Much Much More
Welcome to episode Shifty Five! We sit down with a nuclear scientist, Lee, as he reveals the secrets of the universe such as the double seam, the existence and superiority of center Twix, how fruit flies can multiply right before our eyes and more! Of course we had to chat beer as well so we decided to pick out beers from breweries we have never tried before. It was a lot harder than we thought which is probably a bad thing. We also had a surprise guest! Morgan Freeman, friend of the show joined us unexpectedly which made for some great conversation. This episode is BUSSIN! Also! If you are in the Cincinnati area and want to win tickets to the upcoming Beer, Booze and Bonks beer festival put on by our friend The Gnarly Gnome and other local peeps we called The Gnome and he gave us a special code word. In order to win 2 tickets make sure you're following us @shiftbeers on Instagram and do the following: Share a beer from a brewery you've never had a beer from on Instagram, tag us, use #shiftbeers and the secret hashtag code Gnome gives us in the show. We will choose a winner on the show next week! Didn't win? Get your tickets over at: https://www.thegnarlygnome.com/tickets
Episode 54: How many NA beers do we have to drink to get drunk?
Hi, welcome to the craft beer hour with Shift Beers. Today we discuss non alcoholic beers for those of you who would still like to party, but have none of the side effects such as memory loss, vomiting, dizziness, gain of appetite, and waking up with someone you don't even know. Can you still get drunk on NA beers? We will certainly find out.
Episode 53: The Fall Beer Show (Basically Pumpkin Beers)
It's time to get basic at Shift Beers as we crack open the beers everyone loves to hate on, Pumpkin Beers! We try a total of 7 pumpkin beers and by the time we're done we've had our fill for the season. This week we have not one, but TWO special guests. We have Mitch, who recently exited the brewing industry, in the studio and Shawn White, owner of Nostalgia Brewing who we called because we knew pumpkin beers are one of his favorites! We don't care if you like pumpkin beers or not, this show was a ton of fun and we know you're going to love it!
Episode 52: Horrifying Drink Names
Everyone likes a good pun....that is until it totally ruins the beer (or other drink) before you even try it. This episode we hit the local bottle shop shelves to try to find beers, RTDs, seltzers and more with names that don't make you want to buy them. Whoever thought Ranch Water sounded good? Any who, this episode was super fun so we hope you enjoy it!
Episode 51: Beers Named After Animals
How did we come up with this topic? We'll never know, but this show is dedicated to beers named after animals real or fake. Not only do we talk about the beer, but we debate weather pink dolphins exist, chat about spooky scary wolves and more! This show is dedicated in memory of the goodest of boys Husdon.
Episode 50: Gas Station Singles Vol 3
The legendary Gas Station Singles show makes its triumphant return! From Icehouse EDGE to Four Loko Seltzer, and some crazy drink made out of unicorns we taste them all! The only rule? It has to be found as a single can at a gas station. Listen to us drink the things you always wondered what they tasted like.
Episode 49: This Is Oktoberfest
Well, we made it to a year in the podcasting game! To celebrate we returned to our very first topic, Oktoberfest beers! We start out the show talking about what we thought our odds were for making it a year, rolled into a loooooong D'Jadrinkin, and then we chat about some craft and one German Oktoberfest beer! And of course...we can't have an episode of Shift Beers without bonus beers! Thank you all for going on this journey with us and here's to another year!
Episode 48: Live from BC’s Bottle Lodge!
Welcome to our second on location show ever! This week we rolled over to BC’s Bottle Lodge Montgomery to talk to the B. the C, the K, and the BC behind both BC’s locations. (Is that enough letters for you?) We always joke around how BCs is the pseudo sponsor of the show because we always end up buying beer there before we record. If you’re looking for craft beer in Cincinnati BC’s is one of the top spots to go. The crew chatted about our own individual beer journey as well as how the beer scene has evolved over time. It was such an awesome time hanging with the BC’s team. I think we need to do a part 2 soon! Stay tuned!
Episode 47: Lost Art Of The Beer Bombers
Remember back in the day when people would stand in line for the latest bomber release at your local brewery? Those days seem gone as more and more breweries are opting for 16oz cans in 2-4packs for their limited/BA/high ABV/heavy adjuncted beers. So this show we grabbed some endangered species in the form of bombers and shared them!
Episode 46: The Last Seltzer Show
This is it....no more seltzer shows. This is the last one we'll ever do. (Until we do another one). It's pretty much the end of the summer so we figured we would get one more seltzer dedicated show in before the weather starts getting cold so here it is. Lots of seltzers and lots of bonus beers. Get in here!
Episode 45: International Beers Of Mystery
This week we unleashed our inner Austin Powers and broke out our International Beers Of Mystery. Every beer we tried came from outside of the United States! Josh was gone, but we gained a Wes and we all talked about the first time we got drunk. Tune in for good times!
Episode 44: Alternative Alcohol Delivery Systems
Alternative Alcohol Delivery Systems? Yep! We drink some weird alcohol delivered in less common sized and shaped bottles and cans! This week we are joined by Marco who doesn’t work for Valley Vineyards/Cellar Dweller. Not only are the main drinks insane, but there are some doozies in the bonus beers!
Episode 43: Beer Styles We Don't Like
Well, this one sounds like a bad show. We all brought a beer in the style category that we don't like and drink em. Yep, everything we had (including most of the bonus beers) we weren't a fan of. There were a few shining stars though which redeemed the episode! Tune in and listen to us drink shit, literally!
Episode 42: Stop, Collaborate and Listen
This week on Shift Beers it's all about collaborations! We drink some collaboration beers, a gin and a mead! We say that's a well rounded night of drinking if we do say so ourselves.
Episode 41: Jetpack'n
This is one of those shows where we really didn't have a theme. We just brought a bunch of beers and talked about things. One of those things was Jetpack'n. What's jetpack'n you ask? If you don't know you'll just have to listen! Don't worry though we tried some banger beers too!
Episode 40: We Drink 40s
Episode 40....so we drink 40s...that's pretty much it. Share your photos of you drinking a 40 with us this week with #shiftbeers for a chance for a virtual high five!
Episode 39: Gas Station Singles Vol 2 Live At Fretboard Brewing
Well this was a fun one! We knew we had to pull out all the stops when our good friend Mitch from Fretboard Brewing asked us to do a show live on their stage. We thought back to all of the fun times we've had on the show and what we could do to top the best shows we've ever done. There was only one real answer. Gas Station Singles Vol 2! That's right, we visited the best gas stations Cincinnati has to offer and we picked out some bangers from the singles cooler. From Monaco 69 to Four Loko Black and Dog Bite High Gravity Lager and more we taste a huge variety of pure unadulterated dog shit. And we invited people live up to the stage to try them with us!
Episode 38: Untappd Arcade
Who gets the high score!? This week we invited our friend Kat to the show. She's a bartender in the industry, but has been involved in Cincinnati's chapters of Girls Pint out and Pink Boots Society for even longer! How fitting to have her on the show when we play a game we dubbed Untappd Arcade! Each person brought a beer they thought carries a high rating on the Untappd app without looking. Let's see who brought the highest scoring beer!
Episode 37: Bourbons Not From Kentucky
In our business we see a lot of people try to tell us Bourbon can't be made outside of Kentucky. We do our best to correct that common misconception, but some people just don't want to listen. This show is dedicated to those people. This week we sat down and tried some Bourbons that weren't made in Kentucky! Don't worry though, we also had our fair share of bonus beers!
Episode 36: Summer Bangers Vol 1
Summer is here! (Technically) and we decided to dive into a selection of delicious summer bangers or patio pounders as you will. Chris isn't here this week, but we were able to catch up with Beth and Bryan after not being on last week. We spill a lot of beer and make Bryan's office really sticky too...let's be real though, his office is always sticky.
Episode 35: The Chris & Josh Show
Everyone left on vacation and left Chris and Josh alone to record the podcast this week. It's either going to be a train wreck (unless Denzel Washington has something to say about it) or amazing. You can be the judge!
Episode 34: The "Other" Queen City
In this episode Beth's friend Keri joins us from Charlotte, the other Queen City and she brought some beers with her! A lot of beers actually, and a Smirnoff Ice (gotta listen to the show for that one) None of us have been to Charlotte so it was a really awesome experience to enjoy some beers from another region of the country without having to go there! Tune in for a good time mmmmmmkay?
Episode 33: Micro or Macro IPA Edition (and a Canadian)
If you remember waaaay back in Episode 19 we did Micro or Macro Crispy Boi Edition, well we're back at it again, this time with IPAs. Two of us bought macro IPAs and two of us bought micro or craft IPAs. We all blind tasted them, tried to guess which one was which and we all discuss which ones were our favorites! We also had our very first international guest on the show Bret from the Neubert Report hopped on for a bit while he was walking around Canada drinking beer in the streets because of the lockdowns going on. Tune in, this one's a good one!
Episode 32: Our milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard
This week we dive into the wide world of milkshake beers! (Mainly IPAs) Josh also forgot to hit record so we got 20min in and had to start over. Fun times!
Episode 31: Worse Than Malort
And we're back! Why why why do we do this to ourselves? Remember the gas station singles episode? Well, we decided to attempt to one up it with the worst liquor we could find at our local liquor store. From shitty scotch, to a rose wine blended vodka and more we dive deep into the world of shitty alcohol. The goal? To find something worse than Malort. In this show we also try a plethora of bonus beers mostly from breweries here in Cincinnati! We also call our friends The Gnarly Gnome and Danny from Sonder Brewing out of the blue and they deal with our drunk asses at the end of the show. Tune in for an amazing time!
Episode 30: Jeff From Lagunitas
Look, we're gonna say this episode might start out not the best. As you know we all work in the brewing industry and we've been busting our butts to open up a new taproom at the place we work at so this round of shift beers was a little more tired than normal, but LET US TELL YOU. Jeff from the Lagunitas Taproom in Petaluma, CA saved this episode by being one of the best sports ever. See, Lagunitas put a number on their cans to call with feedback, but for whatever reason it rings in to their Petaluma, CA taproom too so of course we called it. What happens on the call is pure amazingness. Tune in to see what we talked about!
Episode 29: Shift Boats
In this episode Josh brings his chug, sip or cellar selections, he has a beef with the entire state of Florida, Bryan shows up late and scares the shit out of Chris and we all drink delicious bonus beers brought by all In all seriousness this show is pretty dope! We drink a beer that's 6 years old! Tune in and see which one it was!
Episode 28: The Suck Zone
Welcome to another fantastic episode of Shift Beers! This episode we jump into what we call the new age black and tan...where really we just mix a bunch of beers we think taste good together. Wow your friends with your creations at your next party with these ideas! You won’t believe combo #2! Why is this episode called The Suck Zone? Tune in to find out! Was that enough clickbait to get you to listen? We hope so!
Episode 27: Shandyception
Since spring is in the air the Shift Beers crew decided it was time to crack open some shandies and fruit beers. Josh brought off the shelf shandies, Bryan brought some fruit tarts and Beth brought her build your own shandy kit with some bangin' beers and equally bangin' lemonade and lemonade accessories. With all kinds of lemon, lime, and raspberry (aides) available to us we ended up "shandying" everything on the table....including the pre-made shandies because why not? You looking for some spring chuggers? You came to the right place! Oh yea, and Chris wasn't here because he was in Florida....we hate him....and love him, but really we hate him.
Episode 26: Cocktail and Cocktail Accessories
This episode we dove into the world of cocktails with the newest member to the team at the place we don't work at! Giacomo is a mixologist that has worked at many establishments in Cincinnati and he pre-mixed a few cocktails for us to try on the show. It's always fun to get on the other side of the drinks business especially when we all work at a distillery as well! Full warning, he was developing some signature cocktails for our new brewery space before the episode so we all had a few sips of some of his creations beforehand. Take that as you will! This definitely won't be the last time Giacomo joins us on the show because it was a blast!
Episode 25: That one time at band camp we replaced Bryan with a button
Wow, this one was a doozy! Bryan sadly could not join us this week, but never fear! We have a sound board now and have replaced him with a button! All jokes aside, Kevin, our operations manager at the place we don't work at jumped in and we tried a lot of delicious beers and one bomb ass cider. We didn't quite have a theme this week, so we wandered around a bit talking about musical instruments we played back in high school and college, video games, and eating edibles. Yes, those kinds. All in all it turned out to be a kick ass episode! We
Episode 24: Bockfest!
We're back at it again with a very special episode of Shift Beers! If you're not from Cincinnati you might not understand this episode, but take some time and learn about bock beers and what makes them so awesome. We love them so much we have a huge festival each year celebrating the style of beer. It involves goats, beer, and sausage queens. Sounds like a great time to us!
Episode 23: Beerfest Stories
We weren't able to enjoy beerfests and beer events this year so we all decided to crack some beers and tell some infamous beerfest stories in this episode. Some of them were funny....others were tragic. From falling down, to throwing up to late night tow truck adventures we've experienced it all. We drank a lot of great beers this episode, but Warped Wing Brewing took the show as Beth brought us a bunch of goodies from a recent visit. We also try some nasty seltzer and that weird Raging Eagle beer from Yuengling. Grab your Das Boot and tune in!
Episode 22: Mardi Gras Special
This week we take Shift Beers on the road for the very first time! Beth and her husband, Cory, graciously invited the crew over to their house to indulge in some homemade gumbo made by Cory that we pair with some delicious beers! We even got bonus bourbon hot chocolate at the end of the show. We're all honestly thinking of moving in after this one. We hope your Mardi Gras was as good as ours!
Episode 21: We're Legal!
Mother of God was this a fun show! We had one of our #1 fans, Julia on the show and we all brought beer that reminded us of a good memory or event in our life because we're all about feeling good on Shift Beers! Of course we shoved a bunch of bonus beers and snacks in as well! Thanks for being so awesome and coming on the show Julia!
Episode 20: Shift Ciders
Welcome to Shift Ciders episode 1! Juuuuust kidding (kind of). This episode we had our good friend Mitch over from Fretboard Brewing Company in Cincinnati. He grew up in New York and he loves his ciders! This has been a show in the making for quite some time and we were glad we got our schedules to align. Mitch bought some goodies from 1911 Cider and we all brought goodies from mostly around the Midwest area as a whole. It ended up being a pretty awesome spread of ciders! It was a refreshing change of pace seeing as hard seltzers have been destroying the cider selection across the board. As always we end with some fun bonus beers after we recorded the longest episode of Shift Beers to date….and we even cut out half an hour of it or more! You’ll have to catch the after hours stuff on our only fans. (inside joke). All funniness aside some of the things we cut out will eventually make it onto a Patreon page so stay tuned for that! Sit back, crack open a cider and hang out with us!
Episode 19: Micro or Macro Crispy Boi Edition
Some of our most favorite shows to record so far have had some kind of game associated with it so we decided to come up with a new series we plan on doing every once in a while dubbed Micro or Macro. The idea is two of us brought in a macro crispy boi aka lager, pilsner, kolsh, etc and the other two brought in a micro/craft version. We all blind taste them and try to figure out what is what. You'd be surprised at which ones we liked the most! As always we have a ton of bonus beers and seltzers. We cracked open the new Bud Light Lemonade Seltzers, Turbo Water from Hoof Hearted, Flute Loop from Fretboard, Black Limousine from Swine City and more! You know we always roll deep with the bonus beers. Join us for some epic good times!
Episode 18: Shift Cakes
Yes, you read that right, on this episode we eat a bunch of cake and drink a bunch of beers! Bryan brings his version of sip, chug or cellar, Beth brought a gold medal winning stout from Third Eye Brewing, and we drink some bangers from West Side and Sonder Brewing among others. We also steal Chris's weekend beers before the end of the show and drink those too. This show was a little Cincinnati heavy so sue us, we're from Cincinnati! Kick back and grab a piece of cake and hang out with us!
Episode 17: Hazy Bois
We won't deny the influence hazy IPAs have had on the industry for the past handful of years so why not talk about em and drink some? Chris, Beth, Bryan and Josh all bring in a hazy IPA that caught their eye and of course it can't be a Shift Beers episode without bonus beers! We end the show trying some homemade hot sauce made by Beth's husband Cory, new sponsor of the show.
Episode 16: Drink all the hype things
Boy oh boy. This episode we unleash everything that is currently trending in the beer and alcohol world. We opened two flavors of the "seltzer" that is taking over the craft world. Pina Colada and Strawberry Banana Smooj. Yep, we got our hands on it and we give you our two cents on these things that are apparently seltzers. We also crack open some Truly Tea Seltzers, Twisted Teas (how could we not), an artificially aged bourbon and some Cold Brew Jägermeister (eww). Buckle up, this one's a good'n!
Episode 15: F*ck 2020!
The year is finally over and it's time to reflect on the good and forget the bad. Beth brings her version of chug, sip or cellar and we try a big variety of bonus beers! In true 2020 fashion we had to uproot from our recording spot mid show and move our setup. Even at the end 2020 is a cruel mistress! This show was really laid back and a lot of fun! Let's ring in the new year!
Episode 14: Ready To Drink Cocktails (Hard Tomato Soup Edition)
Here we are once again a few days before Christmas! (We probably should have saved this episode to do the Christmas beers eh?) We gathered the team and cracked open a few ready to drink canned cocktails. Some were surprisingly delicious, others...not so much. One of them was literally canned tomato soup, and quite honestly that wasn't a bad thing! Listen in if you want the DL on some of the popular RTDs out there. Have you found one that you like? Let us know on social media! Sadly Beth did not join us for this episode, but Jeff and Logan graced us with their presence!
Episode 13: Chug, Sip or Cellar?
What's up everyone! Shift Beers is back to it's regular scheduled show time! This week we welcome Jacob, a long time friend of Bryan's. We talk about some of their shenanigans over the years and we play our own game called Chug, Sip or Cellar. Kinda like that FMK game. After that we have quite a few bonus beers and have a good time just hanging out as always! Thanks for listening!
Episode 12: Merry Beermas!
We are back after a one week hiatus! So sorry we skipped a week, but when you work in the brewing industry the week before any big holiday can get a little crazy. So instead of launching the episode on Monday like we've been doing recently here we are on a Friday! This week we crack open a ton of holiday/Christmas beer offerings mostly from Cincinnati area breweries. We drink some tasty brews from Fretboard, Rhinegeist, Tafts, and more! Chris and Josh tried to be responsible and only bring a couple of beers a piece, but then Beth showed up with a mix six pack so there are a lot to go through! Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
Episode 11: Stout Blowout
While we were fishing for ideas for this episode we were eluded by what the heck to focus on. The place that we all don't work at hosted their annual Stout Blowout this weekend so why not do a stout event of our own? The crew cracked open stouts from regular offerings to barrel aged to coffee milk stouts. We even did a four year vertical of Great Lakes Blackout Stout thanks to Beth! Crack a stout, tune in, it's stout season!
Episode 10: Seltzer and Seltzer Accessories
We've been threatening to do a seltzer show for a while now and here we are! As much as we all want to admit that we don't drink them or like them we all drink them and like them....yep. It's true! We do a deep dive into the current trend (or not trend) of hard seltzers in the craft market and we taste a pretty wide variety of offerings from the Bud Light Ugly Sweater Christmas Variety Pack, to an Ohio offering in the form of Kitty Paw and we bring in one of the most expensive seltzers we've ever seen from Untitled Art. Is the hype worth it? You'll have to listen to find out!
Episode 9: Untappd Golf
We’re always looking at fun and unique ways to try new beers and this one is one of our most favorite ideas we’ve ever had! In this episode we play what we are dubbing: Untappd Golf. Each of us visited a local bottle shop and grabbed a beer off the shelf without looking at its Untappd rating. The goal was to pick the lowest rated beer. The winner gets….bragging rights or something. This show Chris was not with us but we did have our good friend The Gnarly Gnome! He’s a local Cincinnati beer blogger from where we are. He basically dedicates his free time promoting local breweries and telling the stories of the industry as a whole. If you want to find him here’s where you gotta go: Website YouTube Instagram Twitter Sit back, relax and enjoy our round of Untappd Golf!
Episode 8: Asheville part two, we brought a corkscrew this time
Here we are! Episode 8! We follow back up with all the wonderful Wicked Weed beers that we couldn't open last episode since we forgot a damn corkscrew! We're back with the original crew this week so it wasn't as crazy with so many people. Kick back as we try some pre and post acquisition beers from Wicked Weed! Thanks to Chris for bringing some back for us and thank you to Beth for dipping into her cellar for a few surprise bottles! Here's what we tried: Wicked Weed Sandiaca, a gin barrel aged sour with watermelon and basil Wicked Weed Black Angel, a sour aged in bourbon barrels on over 1.5 pounds per gallon of tart Michigan Montmorency cherries Wicked Weed Pompoen, a rum barrel aged pumpkin sour ale with ginger Wicked Weed Oaxacan, a tequila barrel aged smoked sour ale with grapefruit and lime zest Wicked Weed Red Angel, a raspberry sour ale aged in red wine barrels with 1 ton of raspberries and 11 months of age
Episode 7: Off to Asheville without a corkscrew
Chris is back this week and he brought some goodies back from Asheville for us because we Venmo bombed him after he left. We tried a lot of tasty stuff all except for most of the Wicked Weed because they put corks under their caps and we were dumb and didn't have a corkscrew. Kevin, who joins us again, tried to use some of his West Side Cincinnati know-how and open a bottle with a variety of tools such as a hammer, a pair of vice grips, a screw, and more! Also joining us this week for the very first time is Jeff, a co-owner and CFO of the place we don't all work at! Buckle up this show gets a little crazy. Also, this is the first show that we've done with more than 4 people on our ghetto setup. We hope the audio comes out ok. We spent like $14.95 in order to be able to add 2 more people to the show and I feel like you get what you pay for when you buy audio equipment. Anyways! Cheers all! We hope you enjoy the show! Beers we tried: Deformation by Burial Beer Co. Sour Brown Ale aged on cardamom and vanilla by Hi-Wire Err On The Side of Awesome by New Belgium Hazy Half Back by Hillman Beer La Folie Grand Reserve: Honey Saffron by New Belgium Apparitional Disintegration by Burial Beer Co. U.K Spring Break by New Belgium Dark Age by Wicked Weed
Episode 6: Who's That Beer?
We were scratching our heads on what to do this week and Beth mentioned a time when she did a blind bottle share where everyone tried each other’s beers without knowing what they were and it was really fun. Well, we did it and it was a blast! It’s really interesting trying beers that you may or may not have had without knowing what they are or where they came from. It really allows you to be unbiased in your tasting. There were a few surprises across the board of what everyone bought including a big macro beer that surprised everyone. Chris was out of the game this week, but our friend and co-worker Anique joined us for the first time. I’d list the beers we tried, but I don’t want to ruin it! Follow along and see if you can guess what they are!
Episode 5: Pumpkin Dump
We made it to October which means we can actually talk about Pumpkin beers and other alcoholic beverages. Some of us are very hard headed when we think it's time to talk about seasonal beers, but that's neither here nor there. What is here, though, is a handful of pumpkin beers, ciders, a hard seltzer, a whiskey and a few not so pumpkin, but still fall themed drinks. So sit back and enjoy your PSL and/or pumpkin beer and see what we think about all this crazy pumpkin stuff. Here's what we tried: Taft's Brewing Frisch's Pumpkin Pie Ale New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin Ace Pumpkin Cider Vive Pumpkin Spice Hard Seltzer Leinenkugel's Harvest Patch Shandy Revel Stoke Pumpkin Spice Flavored Whiskey Platform S'Mores Yammy Bonus Drinks Boulevard/Rhinegeist Crust Fall Peach Berry Pie Sour Pabst Hard Coffee
Episode 4: Adventures of the gas station single cooler
Last week Bryan was telling us how he was shotgunning Twisted Teas over the weekend which got us thinking. Contrary to popular belief brewing industry folk don't always drink craft beer. We enjoy a good beer no matter where it comes from. If it's cheap even better! So with this idea in mind we talked about doing a macro beer show which then evolved into a show where we all bring a 40 and hang out to bringing in the most ridiculous thing we could find in the gas station singles cooler. Yea, we're insane, but in a good way. We all ventured out this week in search of the most ridiculous alcoholic beverages. The only rules were that they had to come from a gas station single cooler and the can/bottle had to be larger than 16oz. Strap in, we're in for a wild ride. Here's what we tasted: Bud Light Chelada 4.2% abv Four Loko Hemp 12% abv Steel Reserve Spiked Punch 8% abv Swirl Whipped Cream 8% abv Joose Blackberry 14% abv Genesee Ice 5.5% abv Miller High Life 40oz 4.6% abv
Episode 3: So you wanna get into the brewing industry eh?
So you wanna get into the brewing industry eh? This episode was bound to happen at some point. We dive deep into how we personally got into the beer industry and talk about some tips on how you can break into a really fun but hard working industry. This episode Chris was not with us, but we grabbed Kevin, one of the co-founders of March First Brewing to get his side of what it's like to actually start a brewery. If you listen and have questions please feel free to reach out on social media and we will be more than happy to answer your questions!
Episode 2: #DrinkYourCellar
There tends to be two mindsets when it comes to cellaring beer. Either do it or not. Some people say you should drink beer fresh and others say you should put that fancy barrel aged stout away for a year or so. We talk about what we think about cellaring and we crack open some beers from our own cellars. This was a super fun one with a huge variety of beers including one from a brewery that sadly no longer exists. Grab yourself a beer from your cellar (If you have one) and enjoy the show!
Episode 1: Oktoberfest The beers, the stories and the shenanigans
