Patrick Ramirez, a Salt Lake City comic that moved to LA almost two years ago returned to do a couple of shows at Club at 50 West this past week. Miss Diva Minka Stupid Questions is back with an old guest but new episode! Minka returns to the show. Minka has been friends with Jason for almost seven years. Minka was on the second episode ever of Stupid Questions, where we talked about Minka being Trans. The purpose of this episode was to further talk about being transgender and the stupid 'bathroom laws,' and other difficulties that the LGBTQ community has to deal with, but we ended up mostly not talking about that! We just had a fun conversation about C-sections, C-section scars, people against birth by unnatural means. It was a hoot! We did get to talking about the ‘bathroom laws,’ and about issues that the trans community face that the majority of society isn't aware of. We also catch up a bit with Minka, talk about her YouTube channel, gaming, and a bit of love and kink. Minka is a sweetheart. It's always great when I am able to see her. STUPID 026: “Chattin’ With Afro Omega’s Bronte James!”
Thanks for listening to another episode of Stupid Questions with Jason Harvey. I love and appreciate you all. First off I should say this, Don't Do Heroin! Do Not Do Heroin!! But seriously don't do it! Heroin is bad, and there is some really bad heroin going around Salt Lake City and the United States. Last week I saw a video of a person overdosing on a bus in Philadelphia, it's a bigger problem than I ever realized, and it's even affecting people here in Salt Lake City! Our guest on this episode has had two people who are very close to him die from heroin! Don't Do Heroin!! Now that we have got that issue out of the way, my guest on the show is a good friend of mine, Bronte James. You may know him from his band Afro Omega or from seeing him around town just being an all-around great guy. Bronte and I shoot the shit for a bit. We talk about Willie's and that racist situation that cost me a stand up show. We talk his battle with cancer and the corruption of the medical industry. This was a great conversation, and there was a lot that we touched on very little and I'm hoping to get back and talk to him more. STUPID 021: “Senator Mark Madsen”
A little over a week ago I was asked to be part of a show, I was warned that this wouldn't be the usual stand up shows that I was used to. I was asked to open for a Utah State Senator. Why would I be asked to open for a Senator? Because this particular Senator is doing something very uncommon for Utah. This Senator is Mark Madsen and he is sponsoring a medical cannabis bill Senate Bill 259. I did the show and had a blast performing, but then was enlightened on the bill that Senator Madsen is trying to pass. I think what he talked about was important and I wanted to get more involved. After the show I asked him to be on this podcast, and we were able to set up an interview. STUPID 011: “You Have Cancer”
I don't normally get this personal in the description of the episode. But I feel this episode deserves a little bit more than a small description. A little under a year ago Natashia Mower a fellow comedian and very close friend of mine came to and informed me that a mutual friend of ours and one of her closest friends, Christie Sorensen, had just been diagnosed with cancer. Christie was a favorite of mine to see at comedy shows I don't ever recall her ever being in anything but a great mood and full of life. She was a delight to see from the stage because she has a permanent smile on her face. So finding out someone so young and happy was no dealing with the disease that I personally find most terrifying. We are lucky to have Christie on the podcast today. I say lucky because I've never had such a heartfelt interview that has allowed me into the absolute horror that is fighting cancer! Christie really opens up as she recalls being diagnosed with cancer. It's heartbreaking to hear as she reflects back on the treatment that doctor’s hope will kill the cancer before it kills her. I have done a lot of shows I've been very happy with, but I don't think any have been as heartfelt and touching as this episode.
