(50) Jeff Frazee, Doing The Hard Things, Family Growth, Sawmilling, Fishing, Salvation (SPECIAL 50th EDITION
CELEBRATE WITH ME MY 50TH EPISODE I cannot think of an episode I have been more excited about than this Telegram Audio conversation with Jeff Frazee. It is the kind of conversations I want to have, and he is the hero of this episode because of his thoughtfulness, wisdom, and experience. He pushes me to care about the things that mater most. This is an episode where you get a rare inside glimpse, like a fly on the wall, into our lives like never before. This podcast is a peak into conversation I have with a few other Christ centered men, with incredible faith, and families. This was not recorded for a podcast. Its conversations we have several times a week over telegram audio messages (not live calls) and I simply asked Jeff if we could share the last three audio files we sent to each other. Thankfully he agreed! As you will be blessed to hear Jeff. Please listen to hear him. Skip me if you will. Jeff works in Mali, West Africa, where we met. Jeff and Heidi have 11 children. And they are ministering in Mail, and navigating, culture, heat, Coups, homeschooling, Boarding Schools. What does it mean to be a believer in this day and age? What does that look like? What does that sound like? You will hear how how Jeff and Heidi minister to others across several languages, and how they raise a family in the hopes that their own children still build their own living faith in these challenging days. Andy talks about fishing, What a mouse means to fishing gear, sawmill setup, cutting logs for his own lobster trap building etc. We also get into Salvation..... what does it mean to "be saved". the meaning of the Greek word "SOZO" It is more than being rescued at the end of life. It includes a healing and wholeness of life RIGHT NOW. CONTACT ME Will you drop me a note for my 50th Episode Anniversary? Id love to hear what these conversations make you think. (49) Ministry's New Struggle - How Commitment To Kingdom Things Has Changed
What if Christianity ISNT a RELIGION, but a space we live all of life though. Commitment....is a dirty word today. How do you build a church, a community, a fellowship when participation in so easily set aside according to the daily moods of the people we are working with? Commitment seems to mean - saying Yes to something, until some better offer comes along that tickles our fancy more. That more interesting thing may arise two hours before, but then the Gospel things get dropped, without an apology. It gets frustrating...But that is the life of ministry today. We have to be resilient as as kingdom workers. Not so easily burst by events and happenings. Because, THIS IS MINISTRY, always has been. AWESOME NEWS! It Is possible that the Invisible Humanitarian Is more Global in reach, than "The Last Days Prophet" who broadcasts on Shortwave Radio 24\7 internationally. We have some new statistics blowing our mind. ----------------------------------- Please share this podcast. Drop us a note, as we always enjoy hearing from you. (48) Ross Morisson How A Tree Stump In Cape Breton Became An Alter For Christ
From a Tree Stump, in the highlands of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, Ross Morrison, came out of the forests of the Highlands where he worked in forestry and silviculture, because he found Christ in the Middle of creation, while siting on a tree Stump. Blaming everyone else for his problems for years, as he suffered, wasn't happy, had many broken relationships. Then Christ made it clear to him n that tree stump, you are the problem. He wept on that stump for the next five hours. It lead him to find Christ, His Kingdom, His Church, and a Jesus follower who is now his wife, she is names Wendy. Walking together they grew in Christ, then considered Ministry. That was it.... They landed in Toronto, for biblical studies for 5 years. Ministering to a small mission church for five years while attending Ministry training, and soon after came to my stomping grounds, in Alberton Prince Edward Island. We meet around 2000-2001. Ross is the Minister at Alberton Baptist Church, a thriving gospel centered church in the heart of the town. A beacon of hope and light in the region. Appreciate Ross very much, as he is is laser focused on Christ. Has an incessant, and a never fading love for the Gospel of Christ, the Church of Jesus, and shepherding people. He has been an encouragement to me, and i know to you also. This was Ross's first ever time on any podcast, a new experience. So If you hear this, and know Ross, reach out and give him some encouragement. Enjoy! ----------------- ------------------ Please share this podcast. (47) Gordon Weatherby - Can We Even Pass On Our Faith Anymore?
The secret studio..... at an undisclosed location, has Gordon Weatherby back In The Cockpit again. Gordon has been on the podcast before.... in Episode (31) Gordon Weatherby - The Twice Baptized Double Dipped Preacher-man Go back and check out that episode, as it has turned out to be one of our top listened to podcasts. My 6.4 tall, Twice Baptized, double dipped friend and I met At Maritime Christian College, where we were both students training and earning degrees in Ministry. Gordon sits down with us and speaks candidly, and from the heart about his struggle with where the Church is going these days. With Coved, declining attendance in many churches, and a seeming lack of hunger for Spiritual Growth, Spiritual Practices, and the word, worship, prayer...... Where are we headed? Its a wakeup call. This problem is larger, deeper, than tinkering with methods. There is a battle for the hearts and minds of Christians. We need to get our eyes back on the pages of scripture, and fill our minds with those truths, so it fills our thoughts and informs our hearts and actions. Tinkering with how we do a church service isn't going to fix the soul with, or without, thirst for Chrsit. We talk about sanctification, growing into Christ likeness. etc. Sanctification is the work of the Spirit first, but also the hard work of the Christian, to follow His direction This work of progressive sanctification demonstrates how far in, our out, we are in the spiritual and Kingdom growth process and progression. We discuss These two sermons A MUST LISTEN. Basically, they both really explain how we began the slide into such trivial depts. of faith and practice. 1. Martyn Lloyd-Jones - The Battle for the Mind (1 Peter) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQB3rqcr7dc 2. Martyn Lloyd-Jones - The Way of Sanctification (Romans) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAu0ubfB7iU&t=1514s Gordon Weatherby has been a friend for 35 years. Gordon is from a tiny fishing Island in New Brunswick. Deer Island. A 9 Mile by 3 Mile island. Gordon and I served in churches near to each other at times, and he is now Minister of the church I grew up in. This was recorded during the CoV19 quarantine on March 24, 2020. We were all having communication and social interaction withdrawal. Gordon Skype in and we sat down and he told his story. Gordon is a life long faithful Shepherd and friend. A heart as big as the world. We love you Gordon. It is a joy and privilege to call you a friend and to have you serve in our community. The challenges of ministry, and passing on the gospel. (46) Leaning Into Each Others Lives With The Gospel
You never know the effect you might have on people. Someone Landed in my Driveway today, A story that is humbling, yet humiliating at the same time. It opens a whole can of worms about why do we do these rites of passage, what happens after we die... Meeting people where they are, with the gospel, because they are not coming to church. Now we have a lot of people who are "Spiritual" but are not into church, they say. How do we build a community with people who don't show up with any consistency, or who think they just don't have to? Dealing with Death of you Mom and Dad or In-Laws while living so very far away. Its just a struggle. How our culture is moving so far away from Christian rituals at life's big events. Birth, weddings, Death, Etc ----------------------------------- Please share this podcast. (42)Don't Lose Your Family, Metal Detecting, Jewish Discipleship
Serve a church, but lose your family. We're Reach going to reach a city/town, but somehow ou children moved away from the gospel. Andy Has been out hunting for treasures. What he has found so far wasn't Gold! A Messianic Jew tells us the one definition of Discipleship. He claimed Jews had no other meaning for the word Disciple. What is a disciple, and what is Discipleship? We have churches with 20 different views of what being a disciple is and what discipleship is to accomplish. We have two decades of parents who worked like dogs serving in the church. But lost their children. Most churches in the maritime Canada have no young adult children in Church. They were raised by elders, deacons, and preachers, and faithful church servants, but today, hardly a single one of their children are in the church today. It's a hard truth. Andy shared his story of a conversation with his son. Don't neglect to disciple your own family. Don't make our mistakes. "The one thing you can do to most help your church to be healthy and grow, is to do all you can so that your kids still are following Christ in 20 years. if more families made that their goal, the church would be doing well." ----------------------------------- Please share this podcast. (41) Mango Worms Blister Beetles, Farmers And Fisherman Feed People
Tom grills Andy about being a commercial fishing Captain. This was recorded spring of 2020, but never got uploaded. A conversation all over the map. But we get into conversations about how farmers feed people, and how too many people are removed form their supply chains that support our existence and lives. We are living as we do because of natural resource and manufacturing industries that feed us, build the things we use, and yet, we talk about those who create this stuff as if they are uneducated, the menial jobs. ------------------------------------ Please share this podcast. Dr. Marvin Clark. Worked in Canada West Africa, England. He was infamous as Deputy minister of Health on Prince Edward Island for shutting down corruption in health department. The RCMP fraud Squad was called in within four months of his term. A half dozen employees were charged. Several tractor trailer loads of stolen equipment returned anonymously, Marvin is as kind hearted as they come. But he is no pushover in the face of corruption. Today we have a conversation with Clinical Social Worker, Milton Clark, from Edmonton Alberta. (37) Moving Past Trivial Spirituality - The Deeper Journey - Are The Scripture Texts Reliable
Think you've heard all the scripture truths before? If we actually begin to do a little exegesis the world of scriptures opens up, learning new things every day; Things we've never been told or taught from scripture before because of the often "fluffy" Sunday Sermons. Today we get taking about the accuracy and reliability of the Scriptures. Also Translation issues. We talk about the Koran, and how Muslims do not have "translations", only "Interpretations", as any non Arabic Koran is not God's word.. We believe the gospel can be communicated accurately and clearly in every language on earth. The dismal state of current preaching is compelling so little enthuasim. (36) Stephen Hill Narcissistic Leadership Napkin Notes Changing Lives 2000 members or 2000 Churches?
Steve has worked in several former Soviet Block countries and in Central Asia. Was part of the "Toronto Blessing" in the early days. People said Leadership was the problem in the Church. If we just have better leadership, the Church Will explode in growth. Then we realize it's not leadership, there are systemic issues with the church system that hold God's kingdom back. Steve has seen his share of authoritative abusive leadership. This lead them back to something. ---------------------- Steve & Marilyn began their journey as Jesus People, sitting on the floor talking about Jesus. We did not think we were a "real" church since we had no building, paid pastor, board, constitution, parking lot or problems. After a thirty year journey through every expression of charismatic experience and ministry, a degree in Philosophy/English and a career in commercial/industrial construction, they are back where they started- sitting on the floor talking with people about Jesus. We love our friends from around the world but especially from Central Asia and are thankful for what they have taught us about simply following Jesus. --------- We talk about ego and Narcissism inherent in Western leadership ides. Church multiplication, versus addition. Men and Women of Peace, and the spiritual landscape of Canada. Those hungering for discipleship of any depth seem to be so few. It's discouraging. ------------------------------------ Drop us a note on our social media, we would love to hear from you. Tag #TheinvisibleHumanitarianPodcast Please share this podcast. We discuss the surprising economical cost of relational ministry and discipleship today. Why not .25 cents, rather than 10 million dollars? Deer Island. A 9 Mile by 3 Mile island. He shares many stories about life growing up on Deer Island, and his Call to ministry. We called Rob to return to Mali and help us record and capture some rare Music genres of the Ganadougou people. It was a gift to watch him peal back the layers of their music history and culture and capture some very unique stroies and music on mp3. We were able to record 16 songs. (28) When Al-Qaeda Threatens Your Family
Jeff Frazee is an international worker with World Venture. I first met Jeff in Mali, West Africa. Where Jeff serves with His wife Heidi and his ten children. He lives and works about 110 km south of where my wife and I served. We rapidly had a connection and a mutual admiration began to be apparent. We were cut off the same log. Al-Qaeda published a proof of life video for a half dozen kidnapped victims they had. Most of whom are still in this situation after 3 and four years. Most are christian workers from Mali and the region. Jeff's family was personally threatened in this video and mentioned him and his children When is it time to run? Why do we feel in dangerous zones Doctors or humanitarians job are still valid risks. However when it comes to kingdom work we call them irresponsible for being there, even the church thinks this way. What does it mean to count the cost? Should we let fear guide our decisions? If it does, what does that mean for kingdom work and service in the most difficult places on earth? Why does Soul work come second to Body work? We discuss this and more. (BONUS) Dan's Sex Sermon, Jason Fired His Youth Group, Tom Worships While Sasquatch Hunting
Is it possible that slick, over professionalism in church creates Spiritual Zombies who've never learned to participate? There is a lesson to be learned as we are all social distancing for CV19 virus. The church is not closed, it is not going to die! This tragedy from hell, and the result of a fallen and broken world that is not yet redeemed (God is not doing this), gives us an opportunity to re think what worship is, and how it can and does look different today. There is something positive to be learned as our buildings are closed. How will it effect what we do as we go forward? Nobody knows! However, what is clear we have all been forced to step up and be the church where we are. We are joined by JASON MCVICAR, Minister in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. And Alumni of (MCC) Maritime Christian College, and former student of Tom. Jason's claim to fame is as the Church leader who fired his Youth Group. Listen is to let him explain his story. He works with people who want to be disciples with a contributing effort. For COV19 isolation Jason chose not to preach to an empty church. Hear that story. DAN FOREMAN is also a Minister in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Also an Alumni of (MCC) Maritime Christian College, Dan allows people to learn and grow through participation. He wonders how our over professionalism leads to lack of opportunity for people to stretch their wings and Grow. He feels some people need to return their Music gift, it's broken! ;-) For COV19, Dan resisted the HUGE PRESSURE right now, the pressure for EVERYONE, and EVERY church to put their church service online. Dan chose not to recreate yet another live church feed, as he knows there are 10,000 of them to watch already. So why duplicate that? So he shares a communion time online and invites others to participle in this with his family. It's not easy to go against the grain. TOM MARSHALL Our trusted sidekick, Professor at MCC in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Former Minister, reveals a story we never knew about him: He worships best while in the forest Sasquatch hunting. ;-) ------------------------------------ Drop us a note on our social media, we would love to hear from you. (20) What If I Don't Care About Your Church Event? What Is The Invitation Then?
Why is it we hold up our events at the be all and end all. Do you not realize that the conversations in front of us every day, have a deeply transformative power in them? Try this! Stop inviting people to your church events. Begin inviting people to time spent, to conversations, to mutual visits. They want to hear what you have to say about Faith, Jesus, God, the church, the world. Why do we miss that our relationship is the First and most important EVENT that most people want to attend? We get the cart before the horse. Church attendance is the result of healthy redemptive relationships. The goal is not to invite people to events, or to church. It is to invite them to see Jesus and God's fingerprints on their lives, RIGHT NOW! Once they get a glimmer of desire to know Jesus, and actually like some of His followers (You), the church assemblies may then interest them. The "priest-hood-of-all-believers". BE their "priest" be their "minister"- do your job! Stop trying to pass the buck off on someone else they don't know or respect yet. It does not work. And if they see Jesus beauty and accept him as their leader to love, trust and obey, then Jesus will add them to the church. Not before hand are they added to the church. So - Consider Stop harassing people to attend your church events, over and over again. Try inviting them to a relational event. Coffee with you, friendship with you. ------------------------------------ Please share this podcast. Drop us a note, as we always enjoy hearing from you. (19) Carrie & Tom Marshall On Child Education, Childrens Church, Why Do we shove Kids Off To The Side As A Disturbance?
Carrie Marshall is back with us. Carrie has a Masters Degree in Teaching and Education and is here to talk about How children have a theology too. Why do we scoot Mothers, and children off from the main service as if they don't belong there? Is it possible "Youth Church" raised a generation of Youth who knows nothing about what being part of multi generational body and service really is about, because they have never been there? Some discussions on how we trivialize the theological education of children. Article: With Video included. PLEASE READ the last half of the article before watching the UGLY VIDEO of a Clergyman going off on a mother with a child during his sermon. The attention was all on him, not the mother and child. There is nothing he has to say that is more important than what he said to that mother. His gospel of self importance was proclaimed more than Jesus. No one can hear Jesus after that. Id have got up and invited that family to dinner, and prayed for them and love them. I'd leave a church like that EVERY TIME! Because there are better leaders than that. (16) Into A Bar Walk a Former Missionary, Theology Professor & A Church Planter. This is The Brawl!
Tim Cook, the "Wild Guy" from Halifax is planting churches. There are lessons learned all along the way. In a time when church buildings are closing, how is it even possible there are enough people interested that new church communities are emerging? Faith is dying, isn't it? That is the impression we are given in media reports. Globally, the christian faith is growing as the epicenter has shifted to Asia, and the global south. It might seem grim in Canada as church buildings close, and whole denominations are on the brink of no longer existing within 20 years. However, there is GOOD NEWS. New Simple Communities Are Emerging All Over The Place. These christian communities are lean, and simple. Tossing off the old building centric structures (With are costly) and focusing on simple gatherings that grow, teach, and encourage one another. We will never multiply churches swiftly with heavy, costly structures and mechanisms. The model pushed on us is 1.5 million dollars for a three year start up. With that mindset, there will be no multiplication movement. Tim Cook has shifted to a Coffee house ministry. Simple, lean, rooted in prayer, fasting, gathering, and scripture study at a coffee house! With a view to multiplying these small communities 60 times. (13) The Joys and Struggles Of Coming Along Side Aging Parents With Clinical Social Worker Milton Clark
Watching our Parents age. It is a new season of life with joys and challenges. A conversation with Milton Clark, from Edmonton, Alberta, has a Masters in Clinical Social Work. Milton is a Prince Edward Islander who now lives "Away", but who's heart is very much with his PEI roots. He flew home from Edmonton to relocate his in-laws from one seniors facility to another as their level of assisted care increases in their 90's. What is it like to live 4000 km away and trying to juggle the needs of our aging parents? It's not easy, but Milton encourages us to see the opportunities we have to invest in our relationship with them at this stage of life. It's never too late to make changes, and enjoy what time we have left. So many people never had their parents live into their 80's and 90's. So we have been given an extra 20 years than some people have had. Andy offered to assist Milton with loading and unloading the truck for the move. This is actual moving day, and this episode was taped live in a U-Haul moving truck. This means we have noise, and road rattling.. The sections that get hard to hear are only a minute or two, so hang in there as they pass by quickly after we got off the really bad sections of the highway. This was two buddies who are living this topic and chatting in the midst of these realities. We don't know what kind of relationship you have with your aging parents. But we hope this encourages you to get involved and enjoy the time we have left. Maybe we need to toss out the hatchet? Maybe we need to come together as siblings, and overcome our tensions, ? We don't know nor judge your situation. We know it's a challenge. You are not alone. We may not have the answers about most things. At the very least I hope it makes us pick up the phone and call, or stop in just a little more often to give them a hug..... even when they don't know your name anymore. Courage to you all my friends. Please share this podcast. Drop us a note on our social media. (11) Watching Out For You - Leadership Stress- No One Stops You On The Road to Burnout
We all know There is a huge pressure to build something. Count on no one. Rarely will anyone stop us on the road to Burnout! Why? Listen to find out! What is the difference between burnout and tired? Tom Marshall of the “Two Bird Dogs Podcast” logged in from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island with me over Messenger today so we could discuss exhaustion, tired, and burnout. Our discussion was launched by a good and fair article (Link below). We often use the term burnout too quickly. Other times we might just be in denial. Tired, not burned out. Still have joy in the calling, but need a break. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Article Link "Preacher burnout": Job demands creating stress for many pastors. (10) Speedos, Cheetos and Trails. Too Fat For Running Gear? Surviving Winter
Hiking is a great way to get back at friends who've been nasty - just lie about the mosquitoes and tell those annoying people that bug spray is forbidden on the Island trails because it's toxic. Winter! What is the secret to enjoying Winter as much as Summer? Investing in proper clothing so that you can enter the forest in the snow. Slow down and Listen. Sometimes we are too distance and goal oriented. Practicing that purposeful slow down so that nature accepts you. Nature resonates with the soul. Invest in good shoes, a pack, snowshoes (Especially in Canada) and good winter jackets and ski pants. With proper gear (At reasonable prices) we can still be in the forest all year long, enjoying natures stress relief (And getting healthier in the process.) Tom Marshall and I talk about nature. (6) Real Church? Discussing Virtual Church And Online Church - Is It Relational Enough?
There are Virtual Churches on the internet. There are subscription based virtual Christian Communities with leaders who teach, mentor, encourage, have conversations, and pray with you. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to virtual churches, versus attending a service at a local brick and mortar church? What role can social media and internet play in connecting with others and growing people in Christ? Today we have another discussion with Theology Professor, Tom Marshall about this subject. And, interestingly enough, we are connecting and recording this episode over Skye. You might find this discussion interesting. Be sure to subscribe and like our podcast where ever you subscribe. (2) Church Zero Member Day In Canada - 2040 Is Zero Day For Several Denominations
A report presented by Rev. Neil Elliott, a statistician for the Anglican Church of Canada, at their national conference in November 2019, paints a grim picture. Anglican fellowships all across Canada now see only about 90,000 worshipers on Sunday morning. Down from 160,000 in 2001. This trend means that by 2040, there will be no remaining fellowships left practicing in Canada. Unless something changes. The United church has the same trend and Rev. Ellitot said they report them them that 2040 is Zero Day for the United Church of Canada. When they will have no remaining active members. https://anchor.fm/s/108d03c8/podcast/rss Visit www.theinvisiblehumanitarian.ca Twitter: @InvisibleNGO Instagram: TheInvisibleHumanitarian Wordpress: www.theinvisiblehumanitarian.wordpress.com Article: https://www.anglicanjournal.com/wake-up-call-cogs-hears-statistics-report-on-church-membership-decline/?fbclid=IwAR0oufqGyi6zNerAYbCvo1Jnnc_AeE2JUYBS3yczymLTgC6yR3O6h2imzEY Also: https://broadview.org/anglican-church-canada-membership-report/ Please share this podast. (1) When A Band Invests More In Tattoos Than Producing Quality Music - The Joke Launch Episode
This was our first unplanned, unscripted attempt at a podcast. IT's FAKE - It's all a joke. I called my son in and asked him to sit down to simply test the cheap mics I bought, and trying to figure out how to record with software. I needed a victim and we recorded this tongue-in- cheek episode off the cuff. It's all a gimmick, and does not reflect our real thoughts. Thought twice about posting it too.
