Beyond The Mask: Men's Vulnerability and the Power of Role Models
Episode 8 In this epsiode we dive a little bit deeper than men typically do in order to peel back the societal expectations men sometimes face. Men as whole struggle to be vulnerable, but as an athlete it can be even harder to do it in a sporting environment. We share our experiences growing up as a man and how we view vulnerability as a sign of strength rather than weakness. Male role models, or a lack of thereof, have the potentiality to shape a young man's journey, positvely or negatively. We explore what life is like seeking a male role model in a world where it can sometimes be hard to find a positive one. We understand that these topics are not often spoken about, and feel it is one of the biggest issues for men in this current age. As a result, we hope our conversation today will spark further conversations and encourage more men to open up where they feel safe to do so. In light of this, we have set up a Men's Group on Facebook for men who are seeking an open space to chat, build connections and celebrate everything good there is about being a man, find the link below! Growing Up: The Fine Art of Self-Comparison
Episode 4 - Two Lessons We Wish We Knew Earlier In this episode, we reflect on opening up and sharing our stories in Epsiodes 2/3 and we try to understand and make sense of the fear and discomfort we felt after releasing them. Drawing on experiences in the past to make sense of the present is always valuable but we ourselves know that lessons like these would have been invaluable to us growing up on our journeys. This episode serves as a reminder that you're not alone in your struggles, others who have gone before you have walked a similiar road to the one that you are on now. Share your journey, embrace your struggles, this is what life is like to be a man. No two stories are the same, but hopefully you can gain some comfort, learn something new or just have a laugh from our conversations. This isn't your typical episode in which we breeze over our personal journeys. We wanted to tear down this barrier and be completely open and honest with no smoke screens. If anything, we hope this inspires more people to open up about their own struggles and lessons because vulnerability may be the key ingredient society is missing these days.
