Note (also read within the episode): As listeners are no doubt aware, the Writer’s Guild of America has been on strike for 3 months, and last week, the Screen Actors Guild joined them on the line. This is largest work stoppage in Hollywood in over 60 years. As part of the SAG strike, actors cannot do press, interviews, social media posts, or any activity to promote their new and upcoming projects. We chose ‘Barbie’ as a topic before the strike began and before those rules were laid out. We are continuing with this topic simply because of the way our recording and release schedule works, and because we are hobbyists, we do not get paid to do this podcast, and we do not work for the studios in any capacity. Rest assured that by doing this episode, we are not replacing the job of a union worker. However, after this point we will be pulling back on discussing new release movies and tv shows for the duration of the strike, in an effort to not benefit the struck studios. We may choose to do more classic movies or indie productions that are allowed to continue under an agreement with SAG-AFTRA, but know that these Barbies don’t cross picket lines. In a strike situation, it is always important to listen to the unions, and that is what we will do. We are simply doing our best to make sure we are not promoting studios during the strike. Solidarity forever.
