017 - Dolores Catherino

from Now and Xen

Dolores Catherino joins us with interesting conversation about keyboard technique, polychromatic notation, the limits of perception, and artificial intelligence. As a multi-instrumentalist and microtonal musician, she often works in the higher numbered equal tunings of 72 and 106-equal, and gave a TED talk about it 2016. We also talk about software and workflow with MIDI channels. NOTES  At 13:31, Ms. Catherino meant to say "cents" instead of "Hertz." After speculating about Aaron Hunt's new keyboard, I have been told that Aaron's not changing his default tuning from 205edo to 260edo - the new TPX just had more keys for better playability. The old TPXs have 211 keys per octave.
