16 Using DBQ's to Engage Students
from The Conference Room · host Herman Brister
The Conference Room welcomes Mrs. Renita Sherrard to the show. Document Based Questions (DBQ’s) are essay questions where students are asked to analyze specific issues or trends with the assistance of provided sources to use as evidence. These sources aka “documents” are provided to students to use as resources to cite and provide a foundation for their responses. DBQ’s allow students to create a strong thesis using the support from provided documents; thus, allowing students to make connections while consolidating information into one concise composition. Mrs. Sherrard draws on her twenty five years of experience and expertise as an educator to embed rigorous activities into the classrooms that she oversees.
