2/28 Maine Weather 6 PM: Rain Starting 6 AM

from The Maine Weather Podcast

Good evening. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz. Folks, if you stepped outside today and thought spring was knocking. That was a prank. Right now we're sitting at 41 degrees under clear skies. Eleven degrees above normal for late February. Soak that in for about five more minutes. Because a cold front is barreling across the state as we speak. In the next 24 hours. Scattered snow showers are already hitting the mountains and Aroostook County. but the snow isn't the headline. The Arctic air riding behind this front is the real villain. Tonight, temperatures nosedive. Portland drops to 25 degrees. Augusta falls to 21. Push north to Bangor and you're looking at 17. Up in the mountains? Eleven degrees. That's a 30 degrees crash from this afternoon's high. Sunday morning feels like a different planet. Portland only climbs to 31 degrees. Augusta tops out at 27. Bangor manages 28. The mountains struggle to reach 16. Light snow could dust the roads early, so take it slow. Now Sunday night. This is the one that bites. Portland plunges to 6 degrees. Bangor hits minus S Two. The mountains drop to minus 7. Aroostook County bottoms out at minus 10. Wind chills reach minus 5 along the coast and a brutal minus 21 in The County. That's frostbite territory in minutes. Cover every inch of skin. Looking ahead. Monday stays frigid but sunny. Tuesday brings a rebound before a storm system rolls in Tuesday night. Bangor and Downeast could see one to four inches, messing up your Wednesday morning commute. More unsettled weather follows Thursday into next weekend. One bright spot? We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every day now. Sunrise tomorrow at 6:21 A.M., sunset at 5:29 P.M. Maple sugaring season is just two weeks out. I'll be tracking that Sunday night cold all weekend. Charge your phone and keep those faucets dripping. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care! For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
