255: System Build Lessons From an Early Adopter

from The Art of Construction · host Devon Tilly / The Art of Construction

Antony Kountouris, CEO of BMarko Structures, and Matt McMullen, AOC Executive Director, join us for episode 255 of Art of Construction.  BMarko Structures is a modular construction company based in Atlanta, GA specializing in custom shipping container conversions, steel, and wood modular construction. From pop-up restaurants to COVID-19 modular hospitals and shipping container parks, their goal is to create unique, high-quality structures that leave a lasting impression on people. With over 100 projects under their belt, they've never missed a deadline. While obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC San Diego, Antony met Boris Jerkunica, the Chairman of BMarko, and teamed up with him to start the company. Boris, being a successful software entrepreneur, saw a construction industry that trailed innovation and technology by a hundred years. He identified the General Contractor model as a risk mitigation approach as opposed to a value creation approach, common in the software industry. The two of them started the journey to bring true value to construction through highly innovative approaches.  Join Devon, Matt and Antony as they discuss how BMarko became some of the early adopters of the Offsite Construction world, the ins and outs of creating your own System Build facility, the best logistics and shipping practices for moving modules across the country and much more.
