#4: Recovery takes a lot of honesty - An interview with Lisa

from Smiling Again

An interview with Lisa who lost her husband 14 years ago to opiate and alcohol addiction.  She shares her healing journey, the discovery of her enabling and the realisation that her fixing behaviour was impacting her life and ultimately her children. She describes moving from a position of anger to one of compassion, with the need for a lot of honesty central to her recovery. Lisa made the scary decision she made to walk away, leaving  her marriage and raising two children on her own, setting up a business as a way of taking care of herself and her children.   She shares the self doubt she faced, and her perseverance, simply because there was no other option. All the while, she ensured to maintain a sense of family with her ex husband, making an effort to do things as a family., giving her kids memories with their father. Honesty is central to her healing, the self inventory and the realisation that her own trauma impacted the way that she managed her marriage.  She didn't want to talk about their father as the problem, the problem wasn't just addiction, but it was trauma. And the dynamic they all operated in. Something had to change - you cannot control someone else's behaviour. You cannot fix an addict. The only thing that we can control is ourselves.  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Rise Up Mentor Derek Kempker Welcome to Rise Up Mentor (formerly, Summits of Life), a platform that advocates for lifelong learning and constant improvement in every aspect of life. As someone who’s experienced both the valleys and peaks of life, I understand that while we cannot control all the obstacles that come our way, we do have the power to choose whether we get back up or not. And each time we choose to rise again, we become stronger. But why settle for just getting back up? By consistently striving to become better and wiser, we can reduce our chances of being knocked down in the first place. That’s why I started Rise Up Mentor – to encourage and motivate you to continuously improve in all areas of life, including vocation, marriage, friendship, personal development, health, parenting, lifestyle, spirituality, intellect, and finance.Although I am a Certified Master Life Coach, I don’t consider myself an expert or master, because I don’t feel there is such a thing as mastering life, but it is possible to TomCattt Thomas Patton From the beginning music has prowled with accordion lessons at a young age, followed by sax, blues harp and more recently piano, vocals, song writing and recording. Thomas Patton (AKA TomCattt) credits his mother for his stage name "TomCattt” as she was big on nick names for those she held close to her heart. TomCattt's music is best described as easy listening and sometimes retro, yet with a contemporary mix and feel. Accompanied by the creative tracks of a number of gifted musicians, his first album Hiiyaaaaaaaaaaa inspires imagination and finds a way to impress with a unique vocal sound, compelling harmony and gripping melody. The lyrical content is in fact a living reflection of this artists emotional journey that followed leaving love, finding a new love only to lose love once again. Hiiyaaaaaaaaaaa was released on June 1st, 2013 and all are invited to Soundcloud, Bandcamp, ReverbNation and Cdbaby where "A Question" is free download and to enjoy TomCattt's website tomcattt.com.
