Net als Plato, een tijdgenoot van Lao Zi en Confucius, wordt in het Daoïstische denken een onderscheid gemaakt tussen de Wijze en de Wijze – Heerser. Plato noemt dat de filosoof en de filosoof – koning. De Wijze, de filosoof, staat als het ware “buiten de tijd”. Hij vertegenwoordigt eeuwigheidswaarden en bezit een “heilige onverschilligheid” d.w.z. totaal betrokken en tegelijk totaal onthecht. De Wijze – Heerser, de filosoof - koning, heeft als opgave om wereldse macht steeds te verbinden met de eeuwigheidswaarden, anders gezegd: hij probeert geweten en macht steeds met elkaar te verbinden. Dat lukt vaak niet maar het blijft een belangrijk uitgangspunt in iedere menselijke samenleving om naar te streven. De Wijze - Heerser wordt in de volgende twee podcasts (6. De Wijze deel 1 en 7.
