I'm your host, Mary Lewis.  A Tiny Homestead podcast is sponsored by Homegrown Collective, a free-to-use farm-to-table platform emphasizing local connections with ability to sell online, buy, sell, trade in local garden groups, and help us grow a new food system.  You can find them at homegrowncollective.org. Hey friends, it's Mary. It's just me today. 00:29Um, I thought I would give a little update on what's going on in our place.  And to begin with, I want to say thank you to everybody for listening and people who talk with me every day.  It's been an amazing, almost two years of getting to people.  And secondly, it was a really rough weekend in Minnesota.  We had two lawmakers attacked in their homes,  um, early morning, Saturday morning. 00:57One of them died. One of them is recovering. And the one who died, her name was Melissa Hortman. She was 57 years old. She was the speaker of the Minnesota House. And the other one was Senator Hoffman, and he and his wife survived. Melissa Hortman's husband was also killed. And the person that shot them was actually taking cover in the county that I live in, in Minnesota, Sibley County. 01:26So it was very much a nerve-racking, anxiety-inducing weekend around here.  On the flip side of that, it is a beautiful day in Minnesota. Our gardens are thriving and flourishing. We have wild plums that are growing. We have apples. We have black raspberries.  We have the usual suspects in the garden, cabbages,  tomatoes, cucumbers, squashes, peas,  and 01:55It's been an amazing start to the summer season. 02:05As I say on the podcast a lot,  if you support your local growers, you are supporting your community and we really need to do that.  And we really need to do it every day in every way, shape and form that we can,  which means that we should all probably take a big deep collective sigh or breath of relief  and step back and think about how we approach conflict, how we approach problems  and try to find the positive ways. 02:35to uh... 02:38To not have bad things happen  this weekend really shook me and  I'm not going to get into Democrat, Republican, any of that.  And when President Trump was shot,  I felt bad about that too. Luckily he didn't die.  So yeah, violence is not the answer. So I really don't love doing solo podcasts recording and I'm going to keep this really short. 03:06There should be a new podcast out tomorrow afternoon, new episode,  and there should be one  on Friday in the afternoon.  There probably won't be one on Thursday.  So thanks for listening guys and keep coming back to learn things. Bye.

Better Together Homestead Beau & Kelly Brotherton A full-time family building a Texas Homestead....from SCRATCH! Yep, if you want to laugh so hard your sides hurt and learn from our terrible mistakes then this is the show for you! We are Beau and Kelly and we have sold everything we owned to move to Central Texas and build a homestead on our seven acre property. Oh yea... did I mentioned that we are converting a shed into a tiny house? WITH FOUR KIDDOS!!!! We will be discussing our dream of turning this raw property into a productive and profitabel hobby farm for all of you current and future homesteader dreamers out there! Wind, The by Dorothy Scarborough (1878 - 1935) LibriVox After her mother's death, Letty is forced to move in with her only relative, cousin Bev. From the start, the naive 18-year-old finds it difficult to adjust to life in the tiny homestead of Bev and his family, and her sheltered upbringing has left her unequipped for the hard life on the Texan prairie. Bev's wife is superficially friendly, but sees nothing but a rival in Letty, and although the girl quickly makes friends with the neighbors, she suffers from the loneliness and monotony of her daily life. But worst of all is the harsh environment Letty finds at her new home. The vast, drought stricken prairie with nothing but yellowish grass and sand for miles is in stark contrast to the lush greens of Virginia, where the girl grew up. And then there is the wind, the never ceasing wind who fills with sand every nook and cranny of home, body, and mind. And when the wind begins to howl in a dreaded norther, he demands that gentle Letty pay her dues...
