ABCs of Trust

from The Wisdom Journey · host Stephen Davey

Share a commentWhen life feels unfair and God seems quiet, where do you put your weight? We journey through Psalms 9 and 10 to explore a pattern that carries real life: remember God’s past deeds, speak honest lament, and ask boldly for justice while holding fast to His kingship. David’s “ABCs of trust”—an acrostic threaded across both psalms—shows how structure can steady the soul. Praise is not a detour around pain; it’s the runway that gives our prayers lift. As we recount God’s righteous judgments and faithful rescues, courage rises to face present threats and future unknowns. We name what’s wrong without flinching. The psalmist sketches a stark portrait of the wicked—arrogant, predatory, and convinced that God does not see. Then he pivots to the truth that changes everything: but You do see. God notes mischief, hears the afflicted, strengthens faint hearts, and bends His ear to the fatherless and oppressed. Sovereign silence is not absence; justice is not late. The Lord is King forever and ever, and the nations are still only men—mortal, accountable, and temporary.Along the way, we talk practical habits that turn theology into traction: keeping a record of answered prayer, singing what’s easy to remember when fear makes it hard to think, and praying petitions shaped by praise—Arise, O Lord; let not man prevail. We close by grounding our hope in the gospel: we are sinners rescued by Jesus, sheltered by a judgment He already bore. That’s why we can wait without despair and work for good without fear. If this speaks to your season, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs courage, and leave a review to help others find these conversations. The Christian's Compass is a companion study guide that corresponds to each of these lessons along The Wisdom Journey.
