ABW 37 - Unity and Transformation Through Business Leadership

from A Better Way · host Ryan Haley

In what has quite possibly been the most emotional interview for me personally, this week's episode is with Mike Sipe. Mike is the Founder of 10X Catalyst Groups in Bend, Oregon and owner of CrossPointe Capital (a long-time and very well-regarded Mergers and Acquisition business). Though he's extremely humble and doesn't talk much about it, Mike is a military and business veteran who has been extremely successful as an entrepreneur and really knows how to get things done.  But more importantly than that, he has a deep and humble servant's heart to leverage his business and personal influence for transformational community impact and advancement of God's Kingdom.  In this conversation we discuss how Mike and other business leaders in his community came together with a sincere desire to see true unity and collaboration between the previously fragmented spiritual, business, governmental, educational, and other cultural "Mountains of Influence" in their region. Mike and his fellow marketplace leaders demonstrate the humble heart of Jesus in selflessly serving and loving their city and region, with transformative impact.  Highlights of this interview include: 15-20 pastors meeting weekly for prayer and fellowship to cultivate greater unity within the previously-divided church and community  10 checks from 10 churches, providing both funding and manpower, to support the local school district in combatting child suicide  A community-wide service project to help clean up their schools before the start of the school year Bringing together over 1500 people in the city for a powerful "One Church / One Voice" community event  One particular young person who was deeply and eternally impacted by an encounter with God's love at that event The "bottom line" in all of this is changed hearts and changed lives, one person at a time, through the supernatural power of God's love.  You can connect with Mike at: http://www.10xgroups.com/  55 NW Wall Street, Suite 150 Bend, OR  97703 Cell: 541.390.8610 If you like what you hear leave a review on iTunes, Stitcher, or TuneIn, and feel free to drop us a line at https://abetterwaypodcast.com

The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
