La celebración del día de Internet en su primera edición tuvo lugar el 25 de octubre de 2005. En Latinoamérica la iniciativa del Día Mundial de Internet también tuvo gran acogida, es así que hoy se encuentran vinculadas la Asociación Colombiana de Usuarios de Internet, la Asociación Mexicana de Internet, la Asociación Argentina de Usuarios de Internet (Internauta Argentina), la Asociación Chilena de Usuarios de Internet, en Ecuador el capítulo de ISOC en ese país y en Venezuela la oficina técnica es llevada por Manos por la Niñez y adolescencia. En octubre de 2007, la banda de rock alternativo Radiohead sorprendió a la industria de la música utilizando el internet como medio de distribución proporcionando descargas libres de su disco In Rainbow, despues de esto algunas bandas bandas siguieron esta tendencia ofreciendo mp3 individuales libres, haciendo que se convirtiera en una importante herramienta de marketing para los artistas. Por ejemplo la Dave Matthews Band ha lanzado pistas gratuitas para captar la atención y promover próximos lanzamientos discográficos. En este programa, damos a conocer parte de estas bandas, las cuales, aun se pueden conseguir su material gratuito y legal por la red.
