Em meio à retomada da economia mundial, o Brasil tem a maior taxa de juros do planeta. O Comitê de Política Monetária (Copom) do Banco Central (BC) decidiu manter a Selic em 13,75% ao ano. A taxa básica de juros vem sendo criticada pelo Presidente Lula da Silva (PT), que questiona a independência da instituição e a gestão de Roberto Campos Neto, indicado por Jair Bolsonaro. Apesar dos desafios econômicos do país, Lula segue com uma agenda intensa de compromissos internacionais com o propósito de reestabelecer e fortalecer as relações estremecidas durante a última gestão. As visitas se iniciaram na América Latina e se concentram nesta semana nos Estados Unidos, um dos principais parceiros comerciais do Brasil. O encontro entre Lula e o presidente norte-americano Joe Biden será crucial para ambas as partes. Para Biden, essa será uma oportunidade de capitalizar o discurso em prol da defesa da democracia e continuar mobilizando parte do seu eleitorado, já que em 2024 haverá novas eleições nos EUA.
