Daughter of Change, Amara, has been broadening her community since the age of five when she became a Girl Scout. From a small island community to traveling the world, Amara has already developed a global perspective and continues to expand her horizons.Amara is involved in many aspects of Girl Scouts. One of her favorites is World Thinking Day. Each February 22, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across 150 countries celebrate WorldThinking Day. It’s a day of international friendship and a time to stand up for causes that could improve the lives of girls around the globe. Observed by 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide, World Thinking Day has a different theme each year. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
