Black Lives Matter
from Sickboy
This week we throwback to two conversations we've had in past episodes about racial inequities within the Canadian healthcare system due to systematic and institutionalized racism. First, we hear from Verena Rizg, a nurse practitioner, about what she's learned about how race affects both giving and receiving care in her time having worked in the prison system. Then we dive into the world of Social illness Dr. Ingrid Waldron. Dr. Waldron is the author of the book, There's Something in the Water: Environmental Racism in Indigenous and Black Communities. The book was also the inspiration for the Netflix Documentary by the same name. It examines the legacy of environmental racism and its health impacts in Indigenous and Black communities in Canada, using Nova Scotia as a case study. For resources, we've been taking in throughout the week on how to be a better ally go head to our linktree - https://linktr.ee/sickboypodcast
