BRICS: Brazil
from The BRICS Report · host Primedia
Brazilian authorities have confirmed the deaths of at least 33 prisoners in the northern state of Roraima just days after 56 inmates were killed during a fighting between rival drug gangs in the neighbouring state of Amazonas. His country mired in recession, Brazilian President Michel Temer's government ordered more than $400,000 worth of food, including 500 cartons of Haagen-Dazs ice cream and nearly 1.3 tonnes of chocolate cake, for his official plane trips in 2017 only to cancel the order hours later amid public outrage. Greek diplomat Kyriakos Amiridis, 59, hadn’t even been ambassador to Brazil for a year when he was murdered, stuffed into his rental car, and set on fire by Sergio Moreira, a 29-year-old military police officer who confessed to killing the ambassador and sleeping with the ambassador’s 40-year-old wife.
