Burger Battle! Meat vs. Plants

from The Exam Room by the Physicians Committee · host The Physicians Committee

Let's say you're super hungry. Would you feel fuller after eating a veggie burger or a traditional hamburger?  You're about to find out!   In this episode of The Exam Room™ Podcast, meat and plants duke it out in a head-to-head battle to satisfy hunger.   Join "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll as he sits down with Dr. Hana Kahleova to discuss her study that crowns a king in this burger battle.   Dozens of men ate a regular cheeseburger and a veggie burger and asked to rate which one filled them up the most. No spoilers here, but it was clear that there is an undisputed burger champion for satisfying hunger!   Dr. Kahleova will explain how the winning burger triggered a bigger release of appetite regulating hormones that kept the men feeling full for a longer period of time. The study offers promising results for long-term weight loss and managing and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.   Dietician Lee Crosby, known to listeners as "The Fiber Queen," also returns to the show to go in depth about the role fiber played in the burger study and how it helps to keep hunger pains from striking. She covers all things fiber from A-Z!   Then, if you're thinking about going vegan but don't know how, dietician Minh Nguyen from The Barnard Medical Center makes his Exam Room debut to talk about a two-day program that will teach you everything you need to know about making the switch.   The Kickstart Intensive will be held May 10-11 in Washington, DC and will walk you through the transition step-by-step. You'll learn everything from how a plant-based diet can help you lose weight and combat disease to what to buy on your first trip to the grocery store as a vegan. Plus, Lee, Minh, Dr. Neal Barnard and others will be giving presentations to get you going on your journey. Chuck will also be speaking!   Discounted registration fees are available until April 26.   The Food Revolution Summit featuring Dr. Barnard and two dozen of the world's leading experts on nutrition will be held online beginning April 27. Dr. Barnard will be talking about how food affects our hormones—everything from acne and fertility to cancer and thyroid problems. You'll also hear about heart disease from Dr. Kim Williams and Dr. Dean Ornish, breast cancer from Dr. Kristi Funk, how to thrive as a plant-based athlete from Rich Roll, and much more! You won't want to miss it. Best of all the event is completely free.
