The nationwide labour shortage is taking its toll on our Kiwifruit industry. Zespri has flagged kiwifruit quality remains a significant problem this export season and fruit loss will be greater than forecast in June. The issues include a fruit skin rash that hasn't been seen in New Zealand before but has been observed overseas. Zespri Chief Grower Carol Ward told Mike Hosking while there are other factors at play; a lack of workers is a big problem.
