Christ in the Psalms | E.S. McKitrick

from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu

Deep Dive into Christ in the Psalms by E.S. McKitrickThe Book of Psalms serves as a concentrated summary of the entire Bible, largely because Jesus Christ is its central figure. The New Testament quotes the Psalter extensively, containing more references to Christ than the writings of Moses and the Prophets combined. Furthermore, Christ Himself, along with His Apostles, confirmed that the Psalms contain vital Messianic prophecies regarding His life, death, and resurrection. These Messianic prophecies can be categorized into directly and typically Messianic Psalms. Directly Messianic Psalms apply exclusively to Jesus. For example, Psalm 22 provides a vivid account of the crucifixion, detailing the pierced hands and feet, the parted garments, and the forsaken cry of the sufferer, none of which align with King David's actual life. Similarly, Psalm 110 exclusively describes Christ's exaltation and His eternal priesthood. Typically Messianic Psalms, conversely, initially refer to historical figures like David or Solomon but ultimately point toward Christ as the greater fulfillment, such as Psalm 72 describing an eternal, worldwide reign. Another example is Psalm 118, which mentions a rejected stone that becomes the cornerstone, typifying Christ's rejection and subsequent exaltation.Beyond specific prophecies, the Psalms comprehensively outline Christ's mediatorial roles as Prophet, Priest, and King. They act as a virtual biography of His life, foretelling His eternal Sonship, incarnation, betrayal by a friend, and triumphal entry into Jerusalem. They even capture His dying words, resurrection, ascension, and future return to judge the world. Because these accounts are often written in the first person, they offer a unique glimpse into the Savior's personal thoughts and feelings during His redemptive work. Consequently, the Psalter remains a profoundly Christ-centered book that is highly appropriate for use in worship.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@ReformedExplainerSpotify Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1t5dz4vEgvHqUknYQfwpRI?si=e-tDRFR2Qf6By1sAcMdkdwhttps://buymeacoffee.com/edi2730
