Listen in a familiar or unfamiliar setting. Be aware of the real sound and the virtual sound, and how the border between the two can sometimes become blurred. These listening pieces can be experienced as just that, "listening pieces" or can be treated as a type of “awakened aurality” through which the listener begins to develop a more comprehensive awareness of their sonic environment. This listening project is called "Locative Listening and the Construction of Dynamic Hybrid Space." While my exploration of hybrid space is concerned with the split between the real and the virtual, dynamic hybrid space introduces observations of the ways in which temporality exerts a very strong influence upon the experience. It is hybrid in that it is composed Stories Around the Table Junket NYC After we shared our story in written form in May 2017, we wanted to expand our audience by turning it into a podcast. We decided to split our story into three separate episodes: Entering the System, Dealing with the System, and Surviving the System. At the end of each episode we have our roundtable discussions, where we [the Junket Crew] compare our own experiences in the foster care system with what the character in our story goes through. Through our podcast, we hope to shine more light on the realities of being in foster care and how those listening can participate in the system as a supporting role for those in care.http://junketnyc.org/ Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe Loyal Books Uncle Tom’s Cabin is one of the most controversial novels of the last century, with it’s sentimental portrayal of the anti-slavery movement in the USA. Written in 1852, the novel instantly rose to fame and split Americans up and down the country. Stowe was a passionate abolitionist and was inspired to write Uncle Tom when she spent time in Cincinnati in the early part of the 18th century. She met many slaves who had escaped from Kentucky and was touched by the friendships she built. It was with this sentiment that the novel was born and the deep empathy Stowe had for slaves is evident throughout. As you would expect, the book was hugely provocative with pro-slavery supporters outraged by the negative portrayal of masters within the slave trade. It was said to be so incendiary that Abraham Lincoln claimed Stowe to be "the little lady who started this great war". It is not clear if that quote is genuine but the hype Stowe created both before and after the civil war is definitely real. T
