Le grandi opere del passato: strade, acquedotti, linee ferroviarie, canali e ponti, infrastrutture spesso in passato sono state viste come metafora del progresso. Ma come venivano finanziate? E ci si preoccupava dell'impatto ambientale? Gli italiani in questo campo sono stati spesso protagonisti a partire dagli antichi Romani fino a tempi più recenti: basti pensare al traforo del Frejus, che nel 1871 fu il tunnel ferroviario più lungo del mondo; all'ingegnere trentino Luigi Negrelli che nel 1854 elaborò il progetto del Canale di Suez; e all’immane impresa della Transiberiana, dove furono gli operai italiani a garantire la riuscita dell’opera. «Senza infrastrutture non c’è sviluppo in un Paese», dice Enzo Siviero, ingegnere, architetto e docente italiano. Nel podcast ci racconta come quello delle grandi opere sia un tema cardine: tra gli Anni ’50 e ’60 l'Italia si è sviluppata proprio attorno alle sue infrastrutture, come l'Autostrada del Sole. Ma parla anche delle criticità degli anni più recenti legati a questo tema, come quello dell'abbattimento e della ricostruzione a Genova del Ponte Morandi.
