DDD: For My Name’s Sake: God’s Faithfulness in Ezekiel 20

from The Washington Defender Podcast · host Brian Noble

A Devotion for your drive into work:  If God’s people keep rebelling, why doesn’t He finally give up on them—and on us? In Ezekiel 20, God walks Israel’s elders through a painful history of idolatry, judgment, scattering, and restoration, and He keeps repeating one shocking reason for His mercy: “I acted for the sake of My name.” Today we’ll see how God’s steadfast love for Israel, the land He calls “the glory of all lands,” becomes a living billboard of His faithfulness to His nation and to His bride, the Church, and why that should drive us to repentance, courage, and confidence in a hostile culture. In this devotional, Pastor Brian Noble reads through Ezekiel 20 and highlights God’s repeated declaration that He chose Israel, gave them His statutes and Sabbaths, judged their rebellion, scattered them among the nations, and yet preserved and restored them “for the sake of My name” and in faithfulness to His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It emphasizes that Israel’s story is not about their righteousness but about God’s grace and faithfulness, serving as a sign to the nations and a picture of how He loves and purifies His bride, the Church. Listeners are urged to reject antisemitism and efforts to divide God’s land, to understand the gospel as mercy to former enemies, to repent of their own idolatry, and to trust God’s unshakable commitment both to Israel and to believers as they seek to defend and advance biblical values in the public square.
