Episode Description
This week, we discuss the 'silver bullet' or ‘management magic’, which is a reorganisation or a restructuring. Some of the highlights/lowlights are:
- Many organisations create constant flux and uncertainty as they overuse this tool.
- They can help solve problems in the short term (and they certainly look like progress) but are rarely a long-term panacea for all issues.
- They can be a distraction and rarely provide a good return on investment.
- There are alternatives to solve your issues - optimise around your purpose and current structure, reduce barriers that stop people working together and build 'matrix management' skills
- However, if you must reorganise, treat people with kindness to help them get on with their lives and be advocates for your organisation.
