Don't Ask Don't Tell- Nathaniel Boehme

from Popular Education Radio · host Tammy

This week on Popular Education Radio: Nathaniel Boehme (he/him/his) is an LGBTQ  Veteran, activist, and social worker. Boehme has served over 18 years in  the U.S. Air Force and was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi  Freedom. Today we'll talk about the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy.  The DADT policy was established by Clinton in 1993 and  stated that LGB service members are allowed to serve as long as they did not disclose their sexual orientation, or openly speak of homosexual relationships including  marriages or other familial attributes while serving in the United  States armed forces. On September 20, 2011 the Obama Administration repealed this policy but unfortunately as we find out in this episode, change takes time. Today Nathaniel will share his experiences.   Currently, Nathaniel is an active service member at  the Portland Air National Guard and in 2017, he was the first in Oregon  and Washington to participate in a Pride parade in uniform with his  Command’s approval.  To read about Nathaniel's work or contact him  please go to: www.nathanielboehme.com Please feel free to contact [email protected] or visit the Instagram @populareducationradio  Thanks!!
