Dr. Lynyetta Willis: Addressing Intergenerational Trauma

from Out of Queeriosity · host Elena Joy Thurston

I’m so excited for you to hear from Dr. Lynyetta Willis. She spoke at our Pride and Joy Summit about addressing Intergenerational Trauma in our families, as well as in our individual lives. She shares an incredible framework for identifying intergenerational trauma and dealing with it. It’s also available on her website and the link is in our show notes, so don’t stress about taking notes if you’re driving or out on a walk. She begins with examples of intergenerational trauma that Black families might be experiencing and extends it out to how queer members of families might also be experiencing it. She tells story after story that is so relatable so that by the time you get to the end of the episode you know the framework and how it can be implemented.  At the end of her talk, you’ll hear that I was able to ask her a few questions and gain even more awareness about how to go from Triggered to Transformed, which also happens to be the name of the incredibly impactful program that Dr. Willis leads for families, another link down below. This episode is sponsored by Queers in the Country, a 3 day LGBTQ+ meetup in April 2022 hosted by a lesbian-owned venue in rural Kentucky. This amazing festival is raising funds for Pride and Joy Foundation. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation. This knowledge exchange workshop was part of the four months Res Not All At Once Kendall Weihe Two guys talking shop once a week. Mostly about the intersection of technology and money.
