Echo of an Ode
from Endless Reverberations · host Tree Mabry
Mary is weeping, Pharaoh's army is drowning, the earth is eroding, and the reservoirs are filling. The original a cappella recording used in this episode comes from the Fisk Jubilee Singers. The Jubilee singers were freed slaves who sang for Fisk University, the first Liberal arts college to offer African-Americans an education. The singers are credited with popularizing Negro Spirituals and rescuing their school from dire financial straits. They went on to tour the world and sing for kings and queens.
