Sherman's March To The Sea, And The Burning Of Columbia, South Carolina, From His Memoirs by William Tecumseh Sherman Loyal Books This librivox recording comprises part of chapter 22 and all of chapter 23 (The March To The Sea – From Atlanta To Savannah – November And December 1864) of American Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman’s Memoirs. Sherman was one of the premier generals fighting for the North. In 1864, Sherman succeeded Grant as the Union commander in the western theater of the war. He proceeded to lead his troops to the capture of the city of Atlanta, a military success that contributed to the re-election of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Sherman's subsequent march through Georgia and the Carolinas further undermined the Confederacy's ability to continue fighting. He accepted the surrender of all the Confederate armies in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida in April 1865. Sherman’s scorched earth policy marching his army through Georgia from conquered Atlanta to coastal Savannah was a strong factor in breaking the South’s will to fight. The South’s surrender came just five months later. Calling All Cars Entertainment Radio Calling all Cars ran from 1933-1939. It's generally considered to be the inspiration for the old-time radio great, Dragnet. Calling All Cars chronicles the L.A. Police Department cases. Although this is an earlier version of the same type of show Dragnet was, there are some differences. Calling All Cars was introduced at a time when Americans became much more mobile because of the automobile. Criminals could get into a waiting car, and if they got lucky enough, get lost in traffic! Dragnet came out much later, but they both gave a thorough and detailed account of the crime and the criminals behind the crime. Although during the time that Calling All Cars aired, criminals were sometimes glamorized, like Bonnie and Clyde and John Dillinger. Whereas during the later police and crime shows that aired on old time radio, that wasn't so much the case anymore. With Dragnet in mind, there is another major difference, Dragnet used the same Police Officers each episode. Ca
