Ep. 269- THE SPECTRUM OF BLACK HORROR panel at Fan Expo 24
from Blerd-ish! · host Blerd-ish
We recently were able to attend this interesting panel from Victor Dandridge Jr. and Dr. Vanessa Hintz, Psy.D recently at Fan Expo in New Orleans. It was an engaging panel on the subject of black horror. Check out the description and enjoy the panel: Representations of Black characters in popular media are often rooted in trauma, stereotypes, or some combination of both. The horror genre is no exception, often casting Black folks as comedic sidekicks, characters that lack complexity, or those that are disposable - and often killed off first! Still, there are a number of horror films - made by Black creators, for Black people - that serve to affirm and uplift the lived experiences of Black people in America. This panel of interdisciplinary experts will discuss representations of Blackness in horror, and the impacts on racial identity and mental wellness.
