Ep.33 - Kawhi Leonard, The "Fun Guy" Gangster

from "What's Good?" W/ Charlie Taylor · host The 5th Element Podcast Network

In a week where:A UK Advertising Watchdog determined that having 30K followers on your Social Media makes you a celebrity. The US Women's National Team wins the Women's World Cup for the fourth time.MP's vote to liberalise abortion in Northern Ireland. And the Award for "Most Ironic Moment of 2019" goes to Tommy Robinson pleading the US Government to grant him asylum. In Sports: (5:06) Kawhi Leonard pulls off the ULTIMATE G move. Keeping every NBA fan and THREE organisations on tenterhooks for days, only to go for the least likely destination AND forcing his team (The LA Clippers) to gut their future to gain Paul George from OKC who was 3rd in MVP voting this past season. Not even LeBron James has pulled off a boss move of this calibre and it has sent shockwaves through the NBA. I believe this level of player power is only the beginning. In the first of two Film/TV segments: (19:17) There has been a recent influx of films that depict racists becoming humanised. Where they're racist at first but for whatever reason, they see the error of their ways. It's jarring to think about and sets a dangerous cultural precedent. Speaking of 'dangerous cultural precedent'. In the 2nd Film/TV segment: (33:54) White men have a monopoly on art criticism. From Film to TV, to Music, even Fine Art & Theatre, white men get to dictate what is good art. Now, this isn't new, but what is new, is that in all facets (Music has always had this...) of the Arts, there are now a significant amount of artists of colour. The demographic is changing, but art criticism is staying put. This also links to the previous segment. Hence why "Green Book" won "Best Picture" & "Skin" (Google it) won Best Short Film" at the '19 Oscars.Lastly, in Life: (47:54) There is now a device that can create not just Solar Power but can also create clean drinking water. If developed further, this can kill two birds with one stone and help millions gain electricity and clean water for their homes. Whilst I'm always sceptical of things like this actually happening and genuinely being implemented, I'm happy that some are still pushing to help the fellow man.Thank you for listening!
