from Giving the Mic to the Wrong Person · host Giving the Mic to the Wrong Person

This Saturday, January 19th, there's going to be a #MeToo Speak Out at Terry Schrunk Plaza in Portland, Oregon, starting at 10am. - We're joined by members of the Socialist-Feminist Caucus: Rosemary from Socialist Alternative, Camille from the International Socialist Organization, and Shannon from Democratic Socialists of America to talk about why the Portland chapters of their groups are joining together to host this event. Also, we get into the original Portland Women's March, the demands and goals of the event, and why socialists need to be part of major national events to help organize them. - FB event link: https://www.facebook.com/events/198858817717576/ - From the event description: - Where: Terry Schrunk Plaza When: 10 am, January 19th The #MeToo Speak Out and Women's March is an opportunity for attendees to take the mic and share their personal experiences with sexual assault, bigotry, and gender-based oppression. This speak out will be an opportunity for collective healing and most importantly a way for us to link our personal traumas to building power to fight back. This is an event that recognizes that although sexual assault happens to everyone, it disproportionately impacts women and gender minorities, including trans people. ALL survivors are encouraged to share their stories and ideas and we want to make sure this is an event where people from oppressed groups feel welcomed and encouraged to speak about their experiences. WHAT WE CALL FOR: -Take #MeToo to the streets and organize in the workplace to build a movement to fight gender oppression and sexual assault! -Black lives matter! End police brutality and mass incarceration -Healthcare is a human right! For trans-inclusive Medicare For All and free abortion on demand -Living wage union jobs, safe working conditions, and equal pay for equal work -Dignified living conditions for people with disabilities -Families belong together and no one is illegal on indigenous stolen land! End deportations, release detainees, and abolish ICE -Rent control, and end to no-cause evictions and sweeps of homeless camps, and publically run affordable housing for all -Build a socialist feminism that is sex worker and trans inclusive ---- News hits: "Women Now Run the Military-Industrial Complex.
