Your humble hosts Jens, Yavar, and Clark discuss the ways in which this low-budget western succeeds and struggles in its efforts to buck formula. Black Patch also bears the important distinction of being the first feature film to be scored by Jerry Goldsmith, who takes a deceptively intelligent psychological approach to the material. We explore some of his assorted thematic ideas and standout musical moments, including a dynamic action piece and a genuinely gorgeous romantic sequence. Saddle up and enjoy!

Frontier Gentleman - J.B. Kendall Inception Point Ai Frontier Gentleman: Chronicles of the Wild WestEmbark on a captivating auditory journey back to the Wild West with the podcast, "Frontier Gentleman: Chronicles of the Wild West." This show is a modern-day homage to the 1958 radio series "Frontier Gentleman," which aired on CBS from February 2 to November 16, every Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm, until a schedule shift to 7pm post-March.As the classic trumpet theme by Jerry Goldsmith heralds the beginning of each episode, listeners are transported into the perilous yet adventurous life of J.B. Kendall, a British correspondent for the London Times. The opening narrative sets the stage:"Venture into the untamed West through the eyes and ears of an Englishman. As a wordsmith for the London Times, he pens down his vibrant and unique experiences. Yet, as a man armed with a revolver, he plunges into the tumultuous era of the newly charted territories. Now, featuring the talented John Dehner, come, traverse the wild escapades of J.B. He is best remembered as the Master of Ceremonies at the spa town of Bath. (Wikipedia)This, the best of Goldsmith's Biographies, was published the year after Nash's death. It was at once popular, and went through two editions in the same year in which it was published. To the second edition (it never reached a third), Goldsmith made many important additions. Yet strange to say none of these have been attended to by the editors of his Works. The text of this reprint is that of the second edition, compared with the first. The text of previous editions has been that of a mutilated first impression. (Peter Cunningham, Editor) Vicar of Wakefield, The by Oliver Goldsmith (1730 - 1774) LibriVox Published in 1766, 'The Vicar of Wakefield' was Oliver Goldsmith's only novel. It was thought to have been sold to the publisher for £60 on Oliver Goldsmith's behalf by Dr Johnson to enable Goldsmith to pay off outstanding rent and to release himself from his landlady's arrest. It is the story of the family of Dr Primrose, a benevolent vicar, and follows them through their fall from fortune and their ultimate rise again. The story provides insight into family life and circumstances in the mid 18th century and the plot has many aspects of a pantomime like quality: Impersonation, deception, an aristocratic villain and the abduction of a beautiful heroine.Goldsmith himself dissipated his savings on gambling whilst a student at Trinity College Dublin and subsequently travelled in Europe sustaining himself by playing the flute and disputing doctrinal matters in monasteries and universities. Later he worked as an apothecary's assistant, a doctor and a school usher (exp Goldsmith Weighs In.
