Episode 2 - Interview with Conceptual Photographer Karen Jerzyk

from The Photography Junkie Podcast · host The Photography Junkie

Welcome to the Photography Junkie Podcast! In this episode, we have the pleasure of interviewing Karen Jerzyk, an internationally acclaimed artist whose photographs capture the haunting beauty of isolation in elaborately staged scenes. Her newest series, The Lonely Astronaut and 1969, showcases a lonely astronaut wandering the interiors of long-abandoned buildings in a futuristic America. With meticulous attention to lighting, texture, and color, Jerzyk's work evokes a mood of romantic desolation that leaves a lasting impression on the viewer. As a largely self-taught artist based in Boston, Massachusetts, Jerzyk has been exhibiting her work internationally for years. Her initial foray into photography was through capturing abandoned spaces, but after an encounter with the police in 2014, she began carefully selecting locations for her on-site photoshoots. This mix-up with the law, however, thrust her work into the spotlight and earned her features in notable art magazines such as Colossal, Hi-Fructose Magazine, Artscope Magazine, and PULSE. Join us as we delve into the mind of Karen Jerzyk and learn about the inspiration behind her captivating images and her exploration of narrative storytelling in photography.
