Hello everyone and welcome to the advocate’s advocates podcast. The show that is bringing simplicity back into the complex world of beer wine and spirits. I am your host, Spence Kraft. Our theme this week is Hopped Wheat Ales. Wheat is a very neutral grain, so in beer it provides very subtle flavors and allows the flavors of the yeast strand to stand out. One can expect soft, floral, fruity aromas and flavors. Especially reminiscent of bananas and cloves. The bitterness (IBU’s) of most wheat beers (‘wit’ in german’) is low. (Close to 15 IBU’s) This means when a brewery adds hops to a wheat style beer, a little bit goes a long way.
