Obwohl die Beweislage gegen sie dünn ist, beginnt im Januar 2009 der Prozess gegen Amanda Knox und Raffaele Sollecito. Gefängnispriester Don Saulo spendet Knox während ihrer Zeit in Untersuchungshaft Kraft und stimmt sie zuversichtlich. Sie ist sicher, dass im Prozess endlich ihre Unschuld erkannt werden wird. Doch nachdem Knox schon in weiten Teilen von Medien und Gesellschaft als »Engel mit den Eisaugen« verteufelt wurde, werden Sollecito und sie im Dezember 2009 auch vor Gericht für schuldig befunden und zu 25 und 26 Jahren Gefängnis verurteilt.
