Episode 54 John Beaver is 6 months into his intermittent fasting journey and has lost a staggering 31 Kg (70 pounds) during lockdown.

from The Fasting Highway · host Graeme Currie

John Beaver is the father of two sons and a manager for a wholesale electrical supply business in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has had a lifelong struggle with his weight, topping out at 387 pounds in late 2007 just before having bariatric surgery (VSG) in May 2008. Prior to and after the surgical intervention, John lost over 180 pounds, likely saving his life and shrinking to a low weight of 204 in early 2009 before beginning to slowly (and not so slowly!) regain the weight in spite of the physical realignment of his anatomy. John’s younger son, now 18,  lives with cerebral palsy and has severe disabilities requiring constant care, which drove him to look for ways to improve his own health and longevity as he passed his milestone 50th birthday in 2019. He had regained the weight back  to around 136kgs (300 pound) and had  begun to suffer frequent terrible migraines. He attempted keto/low carb with little success, despite having had some success on the plan in earlier years. He found it to be unsustainable as a lifestyle.  Intermittent fasting came into his view first in early 2020 from some acquaintances in the weight loss surgery community, and he attempted it with little to no information and found it discouraging and impractical. He  happened upon the New York Times bestselling book          " Fast, Feast, Repeat" at the local library and started in August 2020 just after his 51st birthday using the “clean fast” method. He then joined multiple Facebook groups and became a podcast junkie, and hasn’t looked back since.  The migraines have virtually disappeared, and he is nearing an “overweight” BMI for the first time in his adult life. He anticipates intermittent fasting to be an ongoing lifestyle for gaining and maintaining a new healthy way of living.
