Episode #78: Nicolay – New album “Glaciers” and on being an independent music artist

from Fresh Is The Word · host Kelly "K-Fresh" Frazier

This week’s guest is the Grammy-nominated music producer and performer Nicolay. As one half of the music project The Foreign Exchange with Phonte and co-founder/co-owner of the record label of the same name, Nicolay has been able to foster a music career as an independent artist for well over a decade now. During our interview, we talked about what it takes to be an independent artist when the music industry is always changing. We also talked about the unique community that The Foreign Exchange has been able to create, especially at their live shows (you host K-Fresh has regularly been their opening DJ for their Detroit show). We also get into the making for Nicolay’s newest solo project Graciers with the North Carolina-based band The Hot At Nights, which is available now. Nicolay’s suggestion for a future guest on Fresh is the Word is the other half of The Foreign Exchange, Phonte.
