Fall Theology Series Week 2--Ephesians 1:3-6

Are you a forgetful person? I must admit, at times I can be very forgetful. At times I have the experience of putting something where I know I will remember it, and then forgetting where I put it. And I run around the house frantically—where is this item, I know I put it somewhere, I just can’t remember where. And I start blaming people—who moved this item? It was right here, I know it was, now it is gone. Who moved it? Where did you put it? Then finally, after searching and searching, I find it. And usually I’m like “oh, that’s right, I moved it here so I would remember.” We can be forgetful. In fact, I’ve had this experience so many times that I’ve learned to not get reactionary, at least not in a frantic way. I’ve learned that whatever item was lost, it will turn up eventually. I just need to keep my cool, be patient, and wait it out. And usually, it does turn up. Have you ever had these types of experiences? We can be forgetful. It’s part of human existence. Sometimes I think it’s not as much as we get forgetful, it’s that we have too much on our minds that things get crowded out by more important things. ‌‌ | Do you think this can happen spiritually? You get spiritually forgetful? The important things of life get crowded out by other things? This can certainly be a struggle in our spiritual lives. We can be so busy with good things, important things, that we forget about spiritual things. That we lose our fervor for the things God has done for us, and we forget about the marvelous character of our God. ‌‌Today as we look at the work of God the Father in salvation, we going to be reminded about the works of God. Lest we forget, Paul writes to remind us that God the Father has a special and unique involvement in our salvation. Too often however, we forget. It’s been too long since we marveled at the wonders of what God has done for us in salvation. So Paul writes to remind us. And he gives us a healthy dose of theology—a shot in the arm if you will, to help us remember what God has done for us and respond in praise. Our big idea today is this: ‌‌ Big Idea: we must not forget to praise God the Father for unique involvement in our salvation
