Der Mathematiker und Musikwissenschaftler Hans Cousto erblickte im Mai 1948 in Monthey in der französischen Schweiz das Licht dieser Welt.
Er studierte an der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule (ETH) Mathematik. Da er an der ETH keine Antworten auf die grundlegende Frage, was trivial und was beweisbar ist, fand, reiste er nach Indien um der Weisheit näher zu kommen.
Die 70er Jahre waren geprägt von einem hedonistischen Lebensstil, von der Liebe zu Tanz, Ekstase und anderen Lustbarkeiten, von philosophischen Fragen und psychedelischen Erfahrungen.
