FirstThey Have to Like You: The Power of Body Language

from ARCHITECTING Podcast - Career + Lifestyle Mentoring for Architects looking to move beyond overwhelm and make a difference through design · host Angela Mazzi

Likability is rooted in trust. Trust being that vibe you're laying down that others pick up on in mere nanoseconds. Learn how postures and facial expressions you  may be unaware of are affecting your likability, Show interest and attention by making eye contact, nodding, smiling and making positive gestures as someone talks. Make them your entire focus. Before you start a meeting, take time to read the room so you can decide whether people need reassurance, encouragement, or a change to shine. Make others feel seen and heard by asking for their thoughts or concerns. Avoid rushing through to stay on an agenda or get your own ideas out. Be aware of your posture. Standing in a balanced, broad shouldered way with your hands at your sides shows confidence. Slouching, crossing your arms, fidgeting or hands in pockets are defensive stances that evoke distrust. Mirror the speakers gestures to show affinity with their thoughts and thought patterns.
