from The Happy Moments पल पल की खुशियाँ

The year 1961 and the innocent age of 5 years, this was the time when Mr Rajiv Kaicker was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes after an attack of severe fever. Given the privilege of a supportive family he got his treatment from AIIMS, New Delhi. Diabetes, a new word and altogether a condition that would change his life from normal to a more challenging one. However, Mr Rajiv didn’t let diabetes rule his life, he accepted the condition to live with forever till the end of time and now he has approximately 62+ years of lived experience with diabetes. An era where glass syringes were used to administer insulin and were supposed to be sterilised by boiling after every use. Blood glucose testing was through urine analysis using a benedict solution and a bunsen burner. There was a shocking response to his diagnosis however his family has been supportive to him. His grandfather introduced to him the spirituality where he discovered his solace, his mother’s words, “ My son will turn out to be the most handsome and smart man despite everything.” also motivated him to the core. He completed each phase of life with all possible challenges, from schooling, completing his CA, working in the corporate sector and a lovely marriage, now well settled children and grandchild, he says god has been kind to him.
