Fons van Rongen verteld live bij  Red Carpet Radio op omroep Land van Cuijk met trots over zijn nieuwe musical productie Hugo de groot. Het verhaal Hugo de Groot – de musical vertelt het verhaal van een van de grootste denkers die ons land ooit gekend heeft. De Groot zijn leven stond in het teken van zijn nalatenschap. Hij heeft gestreden voor verdraagzaamheid en vrijheid. De vrijheid om te kiezen, de vrijheid om jezelf te verdedigen en de vrijheid om te geloven wat en hoe je wil, doordat we luisteren naar wat de ander écht te zeggen heeft. Maar wat men nu nog enkel wat hem weet is zijn ontsnapping uit Slot Loevestein in de boekenkist. De musical, vol pop/rock muziek, laat zien dat De Groot meer is dan zijn ontsnapping en dat wij anno 2021 veel van zijn gedachtegoed als gewoon beschouwen, terwijl hij er letterlijk voor is opgesloten omdat hij zijn tijd, achteraf gezien, ver vooruit was. Deze voorstelling is exclusief te zien in Gorinchem waar exact 400 jaar geleden De Groot zijn vrijheid terugvond aan de Grote Markt. Deze musical zal twee weken te zien zijn in een coronaproof omgebouwde  schouwburg De Nieuwe Doelen, als dependance voor theater peeriscoop.
